Post\reply editor sucks big time

broni

Recommended Posts

1. No preview.

2. No drag button to expand it (same in Edit version).

3. When changed to "Source" view everything is displayed in one line. How am I supposed to read/edit it?

4. Rendering BBCode is a disaster!!!

Example.

I want to post this:

It's like a tornado went through my post. Everything mixed up.

It should look like this: http://z8.invisionfree.com/ComputerHelp/index.php?showtopic=832&st=0#entry22013122

It could also be that your BBCode is malformed even from the previous version (in 3.0).

Lists require an end *, while it should work without it, it can cause issues with the way it's posting. At least it used to.

Tried it and it didn't work I know that there is an active Bug report about lists.

I found something very interesting.

I tried all kind of canned which contained

and all of them parse just fine.

The only one causing issue was the one I posted at the beginning of this topic.

I actually found out what was causing problem. Why I don't know but at least I have a simple solution.

The very first part is this:

[img]http://i1.ifrm.com/228/109/upload/p22002970.gif[/img] Download [B]Security Check[/B] from [url="http://screen317.spywareinfoforum.org/SecurityCheck.exe"][b][u]here[/u][/b][/url] or [url="http://screen317.changelog.fr/SecurityCheck.exe"][b][u]here[/u][/b][/url] and save it to your [B]Desktop[/B].
[list]
[*] Double-click [B]SecurityCheck.exe[/B]
[*] Follow the onscreen instructions inside of the black box.
[*] A [B]Notepad[/B] document should open automatically called [B]checkup.txt[/B]; please post the contents of that document.
[/list]
NOTE 1. If one of your security applications (e.g., third-party firewall) requests permission to allow DIG.EXE access the Internet, allow it to do so.
NOTE 2. SecurityCheck may produce some false warning(s), so leave the results reading to me.
NOTE 3. If you receive UNSUPPORTED OPERATING SYSTEM! ABORTED! message restart computer and Security Check should run

If I insert a blank line just before "NOTE 1....":

[img]http://i1.ifrm.com/228/109/upload/p22002970.gif[/img] Download [B]Security Check[/B] from [url="http://screen317.spywareinfoforum.org/SecurityCheck.exe"][b][u]here[/u][/b][/url] or [url="http://screen317.changelog.fr/SecurityCheck.exe"][b][u]here[/u][/b][/url] and save it to your [B]Desktop[/B].

ABORTED! message restart computer and Security Check should run

all sections parse perfectly fine as seen below:

One thing I don't understand is why oh why IPS stays with CKEditor.

CKEditor has been a problem since I remember. Not only in IPB 4 version but in  3.x version as well.

Problems had been reported over and over an over since I remember.

I have another issue: When you upload an image how do you place it in your reply box where you want it in the text instead of it just appearing at the bottom of the post? There is no way to move the image.

Click on the + sign to add it directly to the post where your cursor is placed.

Unfortunately a lot of people are confused by this because you have to hover the plus sign for instructions. I'd suggest something more evident.

Is it possible we can add text to the plus sign?

This is a simple proof how bad CKEditor really is.

Let's stay with my sample BBCode.

Please download [b]SystemLook[/b] from one of the links below and save it to your [u]Desktop[/u].
[b][url=http://jpshortstuff.247fixes.com/SystemLook.exe]Download Mirror #1[/url]
[url=http://images.malwareremoval.com/jpshortstuff/SystemLook.exe]Download Mirror #2[/url][/b]

[*]Copy the [u]content[/u] of the following box and paste it into the main textfield:
[/list]

[code]
something
[/code]

[list]
[*]Click the [b]Look[/b] button to start the scan.
[*]When finished, a notepad window will open with the results of the scan. Please post this log in your next reply.

I go to very first, found on Google BBCode to HTML converter: http://www.bbcode-to-html.com/index.php

It converts my BBCode to this HTML:

<p>Please download <strong>SystemLook</strong> from one of the links below and save it to your <span style="text-decoration: underline;">Desktop</span>.<br />
<strong><a href="http://jpshortstuff.247fixes.com/SystemLook.exe">Download Mirror #1</a><br />
<a href="http://images.malwareremoval.com/jpshortstuff/SystemLook.exe">Download Mirror #2</a></strong><br />
<strong>64-bit users</strong> go <a href="http://jpshortstuff.247fixes.com/SystemLook_x64.exe">HERE</a></p>

<p><ul><li>Double-click <strong>SystemLook.exe</strong> to run it.<br />
<li><strong><span style="text-decoration: underline;">Vista users:</span></strong>: Right click on <strong>SystemLook.exe</strong>, click <strong>Run As Administrator</strong><br />
<li>Copy the <span style="text-decoration: underline;">content</span> of the following box and paste it into the main textfield:</ul></p>

<p><pre>
something
</pre></p>

<p><ul><li>Click the <strong>Look</strong> button to start the scan.<br />
<li>When finished, a notepad window will open with the results of the scan. Please post this log in your next reply.<br />
<li><strong>Note:</strong> The log can also be found on your Desktop entitled <strong>SystemLook.txt</strong></ul></p>

Then I go to HTML demonstration page: http://www.play-hookey.com/htmltest/ and I paste my new HTML code.

Parses perfectly:

SNAG-0003.thumb.gif.f3ab1e7a5eafabcca87d

Now, I analyzed CKEditor conversion code.

Here it is.

I paste my BBCode canned and CKEditor coverts it to this:

<p>Please download <strong>SystemLook</strong> from one of the links below and save it to your <span style="text-decoration:underline">Desktop</span>.
<br /><a href="http://jpshortstuff.247fixes.com/SystemLook.exe"><strong>Download Mirror #1</strong></a>
<br /><a href="http://images.malwareremoval.com/jpshortstuff/SystemLook.exe"><strong>Download Mirror #2</strong></a>
<br /><strong>64-bit users</strong> go <a href="http://jpshortstuff.247fixes.com/SystemLook_x64.exe">HERE</a></p>
<p>&nbsp;</p>
<ul>
<br />
<li>Double-click <strong>SystemLook.exe</strong> to run it.</li>
<li><span style="text-decoration:underline"><strong>Vista users:</strong></span>: Right click on <strong>SystemLook.exe</strong>, click <strong>Run As Administrator</strong></li>
<li>Copy the <span style="text-decoration:underline">content</span> of the following box and paste it into the main textfield:</li>
</ul>
<p>&nbsp;</p>

<pre class="ipsCode">
something
[/code]
</pre>

<p>[list]<br />[*]Click the [b]Look[/b] button to start the scan.
<br />[*]When finished, a notepad window will open with the results of the scan. Please post this log in your next reply.
<br />[*][b]Note:[/b] The log can also be found on your Desktop entitled [b]SystemLook.txt[/b]<br />[/list]</p>

As you can see initial "code" bracket is missing or closing "/code" bracket is left (whichever suits you).

Then in bottom section "list" and "b" attributesis not converted to HTML at all.

:thumbsup:

1. I'd like to see an option in ACP to toggle on/off auto save.

2. Maybe a "Draft" button to save a post for later.

This is driving people crazy actually on my board. Things show up in the reply box that they decided not to post for many times after they actually do post something. It's like the Ghost of Christmas Past that keeps reappearing.

I happened to catch the auto-save suggestion (please be sure to open new topics for new suggestions!) and have entered it into our internal system for further review/consideration. I'm sure we can come up with something spiffy. :)

With just a little jiggery-pokery you can make it a 'per topic' auto-save instead of the global auto-save it currently is :D
