IPS staff team won't be able to help you with that, and you will need to do exactly what the red notice says. Contact your hosting to adjust your PHP session configuration in order to finish the upgrade unless you have unmanaged VPS.
The issue is the PHP session path is not writable, and only your hosting can be able to fix it for you.

@Marc Stridgen I understand that this the only option to do so, but as most of platforms such as Facebook, Google, and Microsoft you don't use contact us to restore your account email address. Moreover, consider how much time the staff members who are monitoring and confirming claims made by users that they are the owner of the account would save when you have an automated system in place to do so.

If someone forgets their email, what is there that could be automated for recovery in a safe/secure fashion?
Despite I've addressed one in my first post, I'll go over the other possibilities.
- Add a phone number as a recovery.
- Add recovery email address.
- Add security questions / answers.
43 minutes ago, Randy Calvert said:I create a new account and claim that I’m really the long term member! Now you have an unhappy user who has lost control of their account and someone else using it. There is nothing that is automated that could stop someone from stealing an account if they can’t verify the info provided at registration. They might be able to prove it to a human based on looking at things like past IP/location info, writing style, etc… but IP and geo are not good tools to use in an automated fashion.
This is why I said in many situations this method is more involved and requires more time.
45 minutes ago, Randy Calvert said:But regardless… my guess is this would be most likely better in the feedback forum as there is not any sort of functionality to automate the process today.
You may be correct, however on the majority of forums these days, IPS prohibits inactive clients from starting new threads or leaving comments.
-
@Randy Calvert Yes, exactly. However, I usually check that email to see who has submitted anything using the "contact us" link.
For members who have forgotten their email address, I also provide an alternative way that involves making a new account and sending a private message to a staff member so they can verify their claim. However, this method is more involved and requires more time.
Nevertheless, to make things go more quickly and smoothly, an automated system is required.

I have noticed that the IPS system is missing very important information and option whenever you set the Standard login "Authentication Type" to "Email Address" only.
There's no option in case a member forgot his email address, and this is very import point especially IPS will be removing Display name login in v5.
But still this option is needed in v4 whenever the community set to email address only to login.
Perhaps force members to add security questions / answers in order to view their email address.

@InvisionHQ I left some suggestions and a bug with search engine "Elasticsearch (Advanced)", but you've never responded back. Now, there's no option to restore purchases on your website https://bbcode.it/.

@Afrodude : No, I didn't disabled plugins and apps before upgrade. I'll try thiw way
Then, I'm certain now that this is the cause of the problem.
-
@DzUser have you disabled all third-party plugins and apps before the update? You are coming from PHP 7 and not all of them are compatible with PHP 8 and they will give the same error, so you've to disable all of them.
If you successfully accessed your site, do NOT enable them back. Check first if they have a new update and then update them, and after the update, you can enable them one by one and check again if you are running into the same issue.

That's exactly how it currently works @Afrodude 🤝
I knew it. I was going to edit to my post and add "unless you guys have it done already" Great work mate.
I will wait for more exciting news about V5.

Sadly, IPS management does not allow inactive clients to reply on most of the forums on this community, and they don't see any value to people who have been with them decades. Now days they see only the green color of the $.
@Ehren the new theme editor looks really really great. Thank you for the great work you've been doing to take IPS theme to a next level.
I do have a few suggestions that would make it easier on all IPS users and communities. It would nice if we could give members access to have their own style not everything of course and add that under Account Settings. For examples, "Look and Feel" or "User Interface"
Under this setting we will have
- Default color scheme. Many members would like to have their theme looks Light or Dark all the time whenever they are signing from any device. Easier especially if you set your browser to delete cookies automatically every day.
- Layouts
- Pages Layout
- Forum Index
- Topic List
- Topic View
It just will be nice to give members some options on how they want to see the community.

@teraßyte it's never too late mate. 🙂

it's a free function?
Free and paid depends on what you want to do.

Oh wow, it took me a whole minute to realize it's from a widget. I didn't even remember it existed.
Looks like it's using a different template so I need to add a new hook for that. I've added it to my to-do list.
Just reminding you about this. 😶🌫️

Already done.
I hope you guys also have found a solution to the light/dark themes issue on copying and pasting.
Dark Theme = Already done.
Light Theme = Already done.
In many cases, it's much worse because the text is unreadable.
The problem has already been brought up, but as usual, none of you have made any comments.
-
@bassangler I cannot reply to your topic.
No, there is no way to do that without this third-party app by @Adriano Faria. Works great and it does what you are looking for plus great support by the developer.

It's true Marc, and I cannot wait to see him speaking on IPS 5.

I would just encourage you to avoid words like bug/correct/incorrect when talking about your expectation of functionalities – if only to avoid having sceptics like me jumping in and having to correct you. 😉 The choice of words matters.
Of course. 🙂
Well, with IPS it's not easy to define that because usually, it could be a bug.
-
@opentype I have worked on designing hundreds of sites their main languages are from left to right, and none of them if it has a left sidebar displaying first thing on small screens "responsive web design" especially on news sites before the main site.
-
May you please at least pass it on to the dev team because it's incorrect to see the side widgets displaying before the main site on small screens whenever the sidebar position just changed to "left'. Thanks
-
58 minutes ago, Marc Stridgen said:
Yes, that would be correct at present
I don't think so because you are just moving the sidebar from the right to left on full size screen. Whenever it's on "Right" sidebar widgets displaying in the bottom of the site on small screens, so it should be the same on the "Left".
Why would I want to see the side widgets displaying first thing before the main site forum?
What linux to choose?

I would pick Alma 9 or CentOS 9 Steam.
