    Indeed that would be the only way in which to do this within the core platform

    Hi Guys,
    We're getting lots of spammers registering and some of them are taking to PM's to spam discreetly.
    What I'd like to do is restrict new users for 15 posts or so. Starting with just not being able to PM during this period.
    This used to be a setting but now it seems that I need to make possibly a 'New Member' group to put new registrations in, which is restricted, and then auto promote them to the Members group after 15 posts. Is this correct? Is there anything I should know before I do this?
    Thanks,
    Christian

    The culprit here is the following parameter; in your .htaccess, php.ini and user.ini files:
    session.save_path Change this:
    session.save_path = "/var/cpanel/php/sessions/ea-php72"
    To this:
    session.save_path = "/tmp"
    Save the files. Refresh the IPS upgrade error page and you're good to go.
    This applies to PHP version 7.0 or 7.1 and so on...

    Oh I never thought that, but I couldnt find any others so gave it a go.
    This is fantastic, thank you. I must have checked every possible link except the changelog. 🤦‍♂️

    Not sure how they can change that to be more obvious, other than maybe altering the language bit there to say "Changelog / Previous Versions".
    Maybe make that an actual button rather than just a subtle link?
    🤷‍♂️

    Yep, on my site the success rate of identifying and blocking a spammer is dismally low.

    While I don't want to get into an argument the reason these scores are important to me is because Google have stated that various lighthouse metrics will be used in SEO ranking. Including the content shift score which will be used from 2021. There are 9 confirmed metrics that will affect seo from memory.
    I think my site is fast enough and works will for all speeds but a huge number of my page views come from Google searches and I can't risk losing them.
    Thanks for the info @Adlagoi was more wondering why the tags were not present in the source.

    Great info in here, thanks @Adlago!
    Question though; I cannot get my CSS to add preload tags to the source.
    I can add this and it works;
    <link rel="preload" href="/forums/applications/core/interface/font/fontawesome-webfont.woff2?v=4.7.0" as="font" type="font/woff2" crossorigin="anonymous"> I can add this and it works;
    <link rel="preload" href="/forums/uploads/css_built_16/341e4a57816af3ba440d891ca87450ff_framework.css?v=4dabe886c51604917814" as="style" type="font/woff2" crossorigin="anonymous"> But whenever I try to utilise the loops that currently load CSS, nothing happens;
    {{foreach array_unique( \IPS\Output::i()->cssFiles, SORT_STRING ) as $file}} <link rel='stylesheet' test="test" href='{expression="\IPS\Http\Url::external( $file )->setQueryString( 'v', \IPS\Theme::i()->cssCacheBustKey() )"}' media="all"> {{endforeach}} (Note test param) - this works!
    But;
    {{foreach array_unique( \IPS\Output::i()->cssFiles, SORT_STRING ) as $file}} <link rel='preload' href='{expression="\IPS\Http\Url::external( $file )->setQueryString( 'v', \IPS\Theme::i()->cssCacheBustKey() )"}' as="style"> <link rel='stylesheet' href='{expression="\IPS\Http\Url::external( $file )->setQueryString( 'v', \IPS\Theme::i()->cssCacheBustKey() )"}' media="all"> {{endforeach}} This does not work - I do not get the preload tag in source.
    I have tried adding separate loops that add only the preloads;
    {{foreach array_unique( \IPS\Output::i()->cssFiles, SORT_STRING ) as $file}} <link rel='preload' href='{expression="\IPS\Http\Url::external( $file )->setQueryString( 'v', \IPS\Theme::i()->cssCacheBustKey() )"}' as="style"> {{endforeach}} And I've tried creating new templates, adding directly to global template, just wont work .
    I'd love any advice. Thanks!

    I had this issue too after the 4.5 update. One of our users pinged me about the notifications no longer being full-text.
    Have you checked to see if System > Settings > Email Settings > Truncate Content is toggled?
    It was suddenly toggled on after the 4.5 update. I can't honestly remember if it was a setting I turned off way back on 4.1 that got re-enabled, or if it's something new, but it seems to have fixed the problem.

    Try and create a new theme - manual mode.
    Put in Custom CSS on a new theme all the personalizations of, for example, a dark theme.
    Check for issues.

    Thanks for that. I'll have a play. Maybe we could open this thread or other threads to user submitted templates? Would really help people get the most out of this. I'd be happy to provide mine.

    And when you view the subscribers for this newsletter, are you listed? Very strange that it doesn't detect it.
    The default templates are responsive. Beyond that, I don't have any samples - I'm terrible at this kind of thing, so I gave the most bare-boned templates possible.

    I have my forums in a sub directory - ie, www/forums/
    To get my users to the portal, I do the following in www/index.php (not in www/forums/index.php);
    header('Location: /forums/portal', true, 302); exit; It's ugly, but it works.

    My search results fail to show. A JS error is printed to the log;
    Cannot read property 'CustomSearchControl' of undefined
    I created a non-paid search engine to test with, the same issue occurs with that.
    I have cleared the cache also.

    No. There are still engineering challenges to overcome. Sphinx (or similar) would, however, improve the resource overhead and lead to better results. We are doing, as I mentioned, external search, but it will most likely be Elasticsearch - not Sphinx.

    Some of this is actually quite a large engineering task. Improved app searching through Commerce, Pages, etc. is definitely something that will be addressed and I know at a user-level, this seems like a no-brainer, but to allow IPS4 to do things like the activity stream and advanced search across all apps simultaneously, it utilizes a search index... this means data is aggregated into a single table for efficient-esque access. It's not efficient, in its current architecture, to dump everything in Pages, custom Downloads fields, etc. within it as well. So, there are a couple of ideas being discussed internally that need to be vetted, POC'd and benchmarked before being considered further.
    It will happen in due course. Our focus right now is on engagement -- things like reputation, keeping people active, etc. We'll likely be getting into enhanced search (yes, including external search engine support) by summer.

    Putting my weight in here also.
    I'm using Google Custom Search (CSE) on my site now as the built-in search is just terrible and the search result page was high on my sites Exit Pages.
    Adding to this the inability to search extra fields is just absurd and creates a strangle hold on a community market place that IPS are so keen to build up and improve.

    @LindyI believe you were looking for feedback on how the search utility could be improved and this topic provides at least some very important insight on how some aspects of the utility could be improved. If you could take a peek in here and forward this concern to the development team for review and discussion, it would be greatly appreciated.
