🌸 Welcome to this week's Invision Community Insight! 🌸
Thank you for reading our weekly post! This week was a bit quiet as it was clean up and planning week. Q1 has been a success and we are excited to be starting the last of our Q2 deliverables so we can get those out for you to enjoy. Along with that, the team’s focus has been on fine-tuning plans for the second half of the year and beyond, along with some client projects. Not always much to share with you all yet but these are important weeks for us as a team.

The latest beta version of the April release is out!
As with all beta releases, upgrading your community is at your own risk. Please make sure you backup before pressing that button! This beta specifically contains changes to the PayPal and Stripe integrations. Please proceed with caution if payments are core to your community.

The April release will be ready next week.

Dll reacted to Charles in WebP Support Deployed
We deployed WebP support today for both US and EU regions.
This was honestly an oversight on our part and I want to thank @Dll for pointing out that WebP was not properly enabled.

An issue was fixed today impacting communities in the EU region using video transcoding services. The transcoding services were not properly recognizing requests for transcoding a video as US vs EU and therefore failing.

🌸 Welcome to this week's Invision Community Insight! 🌸
Thank you for checking out this weekly round up post. I hope you have had a wonderful week! In the comments below, feel free to say hello and let us know what you are working on. As for us, let’s dive into that below.

    Current Happenings
We are beginning some spring cleaning in Our Community. I hope you enjoy this first round of changes and those that will appear in the coming weeks. 🧹

    Deprecation Communication
Deprecations are important to keeping our software clean and modern as needs change and the software evolves. We want you to know when deprecations are happening and how to prepare for those. When a new deprecation is announced or a removal is completed, we will communicate those in four ways:
Release notes: This is a simple description with a link to our new Deprecation Tracker. Deprecation Tracker: This will give a bit more information and any actions or advice from us regarding the change. Topic: To allow for a place to ask your questions, we will share in a topic. AdminCP notification: This will appear as a banner in your AdminCP. We recommend that you follow these areas in Our Community so you are notified of changes. There are new announcements and removals in the March release so check those out.

Also in the upcoming April release, Commerce, Clubs, Gallery and Events will all get some attention.

Dll reacted to Matt in Live Community, Nulled version ( New, important feature with great functionality for all customers )
Hi Marco, thanks for bringing this to our attention.
It looks like the nulled version you found is Invision Community 4.4.9.2 from January 2020. It does not contain any of the cloud exclusive features. We do not ship any of the cloud application, and even if they had the files they could not connect to our network that powers those features as none of that functionality is exposed to the outside internet. You would just get a connection error.
I understand your frustration but this person has effectively stolen our work. This is a criminal act. You would not observe someone stealing a car and think "wow, they got a car for free, why am I still leasing?" and then pick up a brick and stroll towards the nearest car. 😆
Piracy is an unfortunate side effect of offering a downloadable product. Most of the time a person uses a stolen credit card to get the files and then re-distributes them. This costs us twice, in the stolen download and then in chargeback and payment processing fees.
We have learned over the years that it is pointless to try and sign any downloads. We used to store hidden data in JPG EXIF but most warez sites take 2 or 3 copies from different people and then use diff to see what looks different between versions and then simply remove any signed files or data.
We do follow up piracy but it's a long slog as most hosts are uninterested or the person using the nulled version jumps from low cost host to low cost host.

Dll got a reaction from Martin A. in Google Maps API Key
Maybe I'm missing something here, but a public key is intended to be exposed. It's the private key which shouldn't be.
What you should be doing though, is setting restrictions on the key inside your Google account to stop unauthorised use.

Do you mean the "From" address? Right now they are all from noreply@invisioncloudcommunity.com but the "on behalf of" address is your address.
We can look into it but the problem is the return path. We have to ensure that bounce/spam reports come back to us for processing.

I wanted to let everyone know that we will soon be eliminating page views as a limiter on all our current offered packages.
Advancements in our underlying infrastructure have made it not as important to meter based on traffic.

Dll reacted to Andreas Grace in Gallery captions not filled by users
The way the gallery upload works, when users upload images they tend to leave the caption empty which defaults to the image filename. This is because the submit images button is active right after upload and no further boxes are displayed unless the user actually manually clicks on the images. This design pretty much urges users to not fill the caption. I would like to either be able to make the caption required or to clearly display its default value before image submission. Any ideas on that?

Dll got a reaction from Jim M in Invision Insight: 4.7.7 Beta 4 and a teaser!
Honestly, in your case, you may want to think about how you work out the cost of running your site and include the value you place on your time within it. You're obviously not the most technically savvy in terms of running a web server (and I mean zero disrespect in saying that) and seem to spend a lot of time doing things on that side with varying levels of success. So, if you took all of that off of your plate, how much extra value could you add to your site with the additional time which would be available to you? Only you know the answer to that, but I think it's a worthwhile consideration.
When you say it's slower - bear in mind that on here as an example, you're connecting to the USA, you can have your site hosted in the EU. We fairly recently moved over to the cloud, and like you are UK based with a mostly UK audience and we / our users haven't noticed any speed drop. In fact, it's probably a bit faster than our previous platform.
People have already covered the third point, but suffice to say we've not missed having FTP access and what have you and have used the pages platform to add an ads.txt file and what have you - it's very straightforward to do.
I'm not here to pitch the cloud to you, I've no skin in the game so to speak, but based on your posts in here and the struggles you've been having at times, I actually think you could benefit from it.

Welcome to this week's Invision Insight!
How's everyone liking the new look to Gallery?! We want to hear all of your feedback, so please visit this topic and take advantage of the testing phase so we can keep it all centralised for easy reference.
On other news, Live Topics is almost ready for its beta release! In December last year we mentioned this new feature coming to the suite and it is definitely something many communities will benefit from. I promise we will provide more details soon!

    New Version
We have released a new beta version of Invision Community, 4.7.7 Beta 4.
For those that would like to try the beta on their communities, please follow the link below. Last week I wrote about how you can opt-in to beta releases for both Cloud and self-hosted clients.
As always, please back up your communities before upgrading to any beta releases.

    GraphQL
    The GraphQL API is here!
GraphQL describes itself as a query language for APIs that gives clients the power to ask for precisely what is needed and nothing more.
I won't go into too much detail here of course; but @Daniel F has got you covered and went into great detail to explain this new addition to Invision Community.
