I checked them out and I can get Nimbus for roughly the same price and it's UK based, as am I, with a little more movement on features.  I've used Nimbus in the past and they are really good and very professional, hence 'expensive' - at least for me they are when you're on your pension lol.  I never thought I'd be saying I'm an OAP lol, but here I am.

There is no shame in that at all. You worked hard, contributed to society as a productive member, and now have earned the right to your joyful retirement.  If I recall correctly (from memory), your forum is a personal joy (hobby) you enjoy tinkering with. I hope you go on to enjoying your community for years to come, and while your goal may not be to attract members far and wide, I do wish you success.

Finding a hosting provider you are happy with, in the long run, is all that matters. If Nimbus fulfills your needs, even if they are a bit costly and you're happy with their service, perhaps they are the right host for you.  But should you in the future wish to see affordable alternatives, I am sure there are many people here who can give you some suggestions (canspace.ca and hostxnow.com both come to mind).

    Cheers, Davyc 😀

  2. KnownHost is fully managed, and they can be a pickle when it comes to security (their mod security setting were so high, I asked them to disable them on my account). They may be a little more pricey, depending on which plan you feel you require, but they are dependable.

If you need a fully managed provider and wish to be fully secure, I would suggest them @AlienOrigins
    and @Davyc

That was very kind and considerate of you to share your full robots.txt with the community. Thank you for being helpful. 👍

But this being an alpha, I do not presume the images used were of HD quality, merely proof of concept.

By this, I mean, if the images are the problem, I do not expect the final product to look anything like this.

Investigating further, the images themselves may not be the problem because this looks pretty clear to me. https://dne4i5cb88590.cloudfront.net/invisionpower-com/monthly_2021_04/1593791730_7_Collaborator.png.5bffd72ca5b86eb698fec4fce96944b6.png

This is not to say I disagree with you. As I am sure, a well-placed SVG could perhaps do better overall.  But please do not use my comments to attack anyone here, including the development or other clients.

Thanks for your time and consideration. 🙂

  5. As a matter of opinion, I like the location of the badges. I feel far too many things are centered on "postbit" on most forums, which adds too much noise. The unification of everything neatly in its place means I often tune stuff out and forget something is there. Introducing a little harmless chaos to the layout gives the site character and makes it more attractive. If someone wanted it centered, they could perform a template edit or perhaps use some CSS. But I, for one, like the location 'as is.'

As for the coloring of the badges, I believe that depends on the avatar. Where it is located can cause a bit of a color clash depending on what your avatar looks like. I am using Linux (openSUSE Tumbleweed) with Mozilla Firefox ( Mozilla/5.0 (X11; Linux x86_64; rv:89.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/89.0 ) and find no real issue. But for argument's sake, attached are a few random screenshots.

Upon uploading my attached (see post above), I notice they look a little rough around the edges. But this being an alpha, I do not presume the images used were of HD quality, merely proof of concept.

Thanks... we support our beta releases so please do use them as you can submit support requests with issues. Just be sure to have backups and a willingness to work around issues as they are still betas!

That's awesome to know. Thank you kindly for that information.  Although at the moment, I plan to further focus on testing everything on my test VPS (virtual private server) and get better acquainted with Invision before considering moving anything into production.  I have a whole site where I 'play around' with software (domaintaken.org).  Of course, this naturally means I will need to purchase another license once I move into production, as I plan to keep my test site public. 😉

  7. I want to take the opportunity to thank the development team here at Invision.  I know bug fixing is not always exciting. But the actual test of any development team is taking the challenge head-on, striving to better a product before a release. Thank you for all the hard work you are putting in, and thank you for your time, consideration, and patience. 🤩

I also want to thank everyone here, yes, YOU too (reader), who helped test the latest release here on Invision's support site and submitted a detailed bug report.  You, too, are part of the process, and your diligence in paying close attention to detail while taking the time to point out what you noticed, really can and does make a difference.  Thank you for your time, consideration, and patience. 😎

I am excitingly looking forward to the first alpha or beta I can download, install, and test. 🙂

  8. In your AdminCP (administrator control panel), if you search for the phrase "custom," you can customize the error pages and message. You'll have used to the full editor when doing so, so you can be as creative as you would on a forum post.  But if I understand you correctly, you wish to give people a tease or sneak peek of what they are missing out on.  Unfortunately, that would be beyond the scope of the core features and require an add-on. The whole point of denying permissions is for people not to know what is behind the closed door.

I could not locate such an add-on. But there is a business listing of available developers who are available to hire if you are interested in having one created.   https://invisioncommunity.com/third-party/providers/

  9. Hello @Karina Harumi

    To have a clickable image:

    1. Upload the image of your choice, then insert the photo in your post (you can do that but clicking on your attachment, which will add it into the post).
    2. Highlight your image the same way you would highlight text in the editor.
    3. While your photo is highlighted, click on the link icon in the editor, and add the URL of your choice.
    4. At the end of your URL, add the following, which will ensure that a new tab window will always be used /"target="_blank

  10. Hello @Matt Finger and welcome to Invision.  @Jordan Invisionis new, too, so you both have that in common.  I hope your career with Invision is a productive and successful one.

While I am sure new features are what most people want, and I hope to see that too, I am hoping you focus on bug patching and optimization. Because actual human progress is both seeking to advance progress while improving upon what is. I look forward to watching your productivity unfold in future releases.

Again, best of luck with your continued endeavors and welcome. 🙂

Speaking of ironic: - video removed from quote (you understand, its big)

One would hope that everyone can be free to express an opinion here, even if it seems to be on the "ironic" side to some of us.  As with many comments posted here, I personally disagree with some points made and agree with others, rarely do I weigh in completely one way or the other.  If everyone consistently keeps their concerns to themselves "nothing" will change and there will be no chance of any knowledge transfer.

What appears to be a waste of time to some may not be to others. Jordan's approach to community management may serve him well on his board but might not work 100% of the time here.  The original poster was pointing out that in his opinion Jordan's approach might benefit from a little tweaking. If Jordan is to improve this community hearing contrary views will help him figure out how best to manage this community for the long term.  That my friend will not be a waste of time for any of us.

    I love that song. 🙂

You have a fair point. I guess my stance is I think everything is working just fine, and we need to continue to let things fold out with the new changes. When I joined here, people were arguing about how disappointed they were with the engagement. That's changing. Let's let the process unfold and see where it takes us before we nit-pick everything. Who knows, you may like it, but you'll never know until you give things a chance.

  12. Of all the things to be upset about or making a formal request concerning. 🙄 Why so serious?

Invision could add a host of new reactions or remove them all. Of all the things to worry about, I think focusing on development and support is more important. Yet here we are debating about emoji reactions.

I like the cat reaction. I tend to use it when someone is like-minded (not something you can agree with, but when someone has posted something that I feel fits). I'm sure someone will argue I'm using it wrong. To which I want to ask them, why so serious? There are so many more important issues. What reactions we use, when we use them, how often we use them, etc... It does not seem to me as something to stress over.

I agree removing any negative reactions was a positive change. There is a reason why most social media sites do not use them. When available, they're abused, and often.  Beyond that point, can we focus on something else?  I feel like this thread was made to complain for the sake of complaining (in my opinion). And no, it is not lost on me that complaining about someone's complaining is too ironic.

    I've said my peace.

  13. Was there a technical reason why this has not been standardized? I am curious as to why SVG support has not already been added.

SVG has been around for 20 years (technically, 19 years, 20 this September). https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Scalable_Vector_Graphics It became a browser standard 10 years ago (since 2011) https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Scalable_Vector_Graphics#Native_browser_support I am surprised to learn even discontinued Internet Explorer 9 - 11 all supported SVG.

Or was this an oversight? 🤔

Thanks, but please don't. I will not accept.
Hopefully one day invision marketplace will start accept other payment methods (at least from long time customers).

Oh well. It is the thought that counts (or so I am told).  In any case, I just checked. You do not need a Paypal account to purchase credit here. You can buy credit here https://invisioncommunity.com/clientarea/credit/ and if I am not mistaken that credit will be used in the marketplace. No Paypal required.

  15. 22 minutes ago, Jurgis said:

As i understand invision community marketplace still has only one payment method (Paypal).

I am not using Paypal and Paypal forces me to create account (what is NOT acceptable for me), so i can't buy anything from this marketplace.

Once upon a time, I too had an issue with Paypal mainly because someone else had made an account in my name and done horrible things. For this reason, I sincerely sympathize, and I am feeling charitable.  @Matt or @Lindy will note I have $100 in credit with Invision at the moment. Is it possible to gift @Jurgis here $35 so that he or she can overcome this? I believe that would be a cool feature to add to the 'Commerce' package (gifting credits) if it is not already a feature (I could not find that option if it is). 😀

    EDIT:

Nevermind.  @Jurgis was not interested.  Oh well. Sorry to have troubled you by tagging you.

I know about mxtoolbox. I used it when i was setting up mail server, so everything is configured correctly.

And IP blacklisted in just 1 of 94, but it is enough for sent mail to land in Spam folder 😞

By the way, this is what my host answered:

Big mail providers (e.g. Gmail, Hotmail, Yahoo) are not using the UCEPROTECT filters at all and e-mails to those providers are therefore not affected by this listing. Even smaller mail servers using the UCEPROTECT filters will most likely not include the Level 3 rules since UCEPROTECT themselves consider the Level 3 filter as too strict.

It can't be true, since i see effect of this UCEPROTECT. I did tests and my validation emails are landing in Spam folder (even on Gmail). Before everything was fine.

I am sorry to hear you are experiencing this. I can genuinely sympathize with how frustrating this can be.

Respectfully, it sounds as if your hosting provider is having issues. As you said it yourself, this problem was none existent before.   I would again suggest you first set up with an independent mail provider (there are plenty out there to choose from). After setting up your mailing provider, I recommend you further disassociate away from your hosting provider by switching web host.

  17. I am sincerely sorry to hear you are experiencing this. Having experienced this myself once in the past, may I be so humble about providing you working solution? Redirecting your members to a page to inform them they should check their spam folder, if I may say, will not make your problem go away.  If anything, not addressing the root problem is likely to get your domain name blacklisted everywhere, and at such a point, no one will receive your e-mails, not even in the spam folder.

You will want to change your site's IP address for starters.  Since you have identified this as a web hosting issue, I would suggest changing the web host (which will naturally change your IP).  But before you do that, you will wish to select an e-mail provider. This will help prevent disassociating your e-mails with your domain and IP address.  I would personally recommend Mandrill (which is part of Mailchimp). The first several thousand e-mails each month are free. Once (after) you have set up your e-mail, I would humbly suggest you switch web host.

    edit:

A quick follow-up, since it slipt my mind. Sorry.  Be sure your e-mails are providing a method to unsubscribe.  If you have edited the wording, you may wish to double-check that you have not omitted or made it hard to find the unsubscribe link.

You should check out Rocky Linux which is set to be a direct replacement for CentOS.

More than a few upstart spinoff distros are claiming to be the 'successor' to CentOS.  I am not looking to jump on another bandwagon of unproven technology by yet another spinoff.  RockLinux has been claiming to be the 'successor' since 2020, and their Github has barely made any changes, not even in their development branch https://github.com/rocky-linux

SUSE has been around since 1994. It is one of the original Linux distros still in active development, alongside Slackware and Debian. They have proven themselves to be stable and dependable. Everything I was doing in CentOS I can do in SUSE. Every RPM package I wanted to use loaded and installed just fine in SUSE.  With a bit of modification on a test install, I was even able to set up Plesk (control panel), and most of that modification was to tell the install script (and one or two others scripts) to ignore that I was using SUSE.

No worries. I was just trying to make sure it was clear that is how it works and always how it worked so no one gets confused about it if they read the thread.

IIRC @breatheheavy modified their email templates to use the sendgrid unsubscribe instead of the IPS unsubscribe which is where I believe the core of their issue is coming from TBH. Sendgrid won't honor what the End User wants from IPS is the End User has specified they don't want email from the sender at all.

Thank you. I believe you do an excellent job of clarifying that. I have used e-mail provider services (Mandrill) for my own uses, but I presume the service providers I use do not filter the unsubscribed directly and still honor the software I am using.  That is to say, if you had unsubscribed from newsletter-type e-mails (admin sent e-mails), you would still receive general site e-mails (password reset).  I had no idea that SendGrid could be so intrusive.

Again, thank you for your time, consideration, and assistance in helping me understand better. It is very appreciated.
