I second this. I would happily pay extra for live topics over multiple sites but moving to your cloud platform simply is not an option for some of us.

I hope you consider it in the future, even as an additional paid add-on.

In moving forward, Invision should release a Docker Container image (via a registry of course) in addition to or instead of zip files. I would imagine the preference would be for a Linux container only.
This keeps everything simple and consistent. If add-ons are required then they can be downloaded and "installed" to persistent storage attached to the container or someone can build ontop of the official release.
I would think this is the approach Invision have taken for deployment/maintenance of the Cloud offering and so it would simplify and align the classic offering.

    Good guess, but nope 🙂

Your site itself will remain operable if inactive, however you cannot upgrade or use any IPS related services such as support, spam service etc. Of course after a 2 year period your license would be permanently expired, so you would then not be able to renew

If you need someone to test a v4 to v5 converter I would be available and happy to test 🙂 (180.000 Post, 4.000 Topics)
The current version 5 looks great!
I hope that I can continue to use as many new functions as possible in the future as I run a "Classic" self-hosted system 🙂

We're seeing the same things in the EU data centre. It's so frequent at the moment, and very frustrating, particularly as support replies essentially amount to 'it's not happening now, so I can't investigate'.
We'll be heading back to self-hosted if it continues, sadly.

This issue has been resolved in our recent 4.7.14 release of the platform. Please upgrade to resolve the issue, and if you see any further problems at that point, please let us know.

Hello, I would like to know. If I buy a license for $499 for self-hosting. And I won't pay $199 a year in the future. Will I be able to continue using the engine, or will it stop working in a year, until I pay $199

When you add links using the Menu Manager, you can choose what menu(s) the link is shown in. Either the side panel, the horizontal bar, or the mobile panel.
You basically answered this yourself haha 🙂 Simplicity. The "2 row" navigation bar was always a burden to restyle in version 4, and took up a fair amount of vertical space. Simplifying the navigation into a single row allows us to display the navigation bar in multiple ways, which you'll see more of next week.
As always, the cover photos are optional. 👍

The extra cost would make it the same as a cloud plan.

asd937 reacted to Charles in Buying new self hosted licence - how to choose few applications?
It is a common misconception that we are doing "cloud-exclusive features." Invision Community sells its services in various package levels like you will find in literally any other software or service you buy out there. We offer the following packages:
Classic (self-hosted) Beginner Creator Creator Pro Team Business Enterprise All of those packages offer different levels of features, support, service, and consulting. For example, our Courses feature is available on:
Creator Pro Team Business Enterprise As you can see, Courses is not a "cloud-exclusive feature" but it is exclusive to specific package levels. Another example might be AI based image moderation which is only available on Business and Enterprise packages.
So we are not drawing a line specifically between Classic (self-hosted) and other packages (cloud). There are many differentiators between all the package tiers which is a totally normal way that software and services are sold.
From media streaming to your mobile phone plan right down to your internet service, offering different package for people to choose from offers flexibility of choice in terms of both price and options.

Yes, it would keep working. Just keep in mind that you would be way out of date so it might be risky.

Licenses that are under the new terms that are not renewed after 24 months will be expired permanently and cannot be renewed.

    Some thoughts:
    1. This is only an observation.  I find it interesting that IPS approaches time spent on a community from a position of scarcity. To be clear, this makes sense - we have busy lives and many sites that we visit, so we need to optimize the time spent on the community to make it impactful.  Get me to what I want in the most efficient manner.
On the other hand, I encourage IPS to also approach it from a position of (maybe just a little) greed.  Yes, get me to what I want to read or reply as quickly as possible, but also encourage and push and motivate me to also get involved or read something extra.  Help me go down a rabbit hole. That's the only way to grow my involvement in the site.
Not asking IPS to adopt a full blown social media orientation where attention is the only point, but adding attention hooks and pushing engagement can only help our communities.
    2. The prototype of the topic as stated above is highly limiting. It matches a support topic.
But it doesn't match topics where the discussion and commentary are the point.  For example, this topic! This topic doesn't have a "right answer" that anyone can Mark as Solved.  The breadth of conversations by clients and the diverse things we care about - developer updates, the edit button, content denseness, polite fanboy applause - is the point and the noise at the same time.
Going to be curious how IPS innovates on these social and conversational topics.
    3. I wonder how we can cut down on the noise and distraction of a question by helping users ask a better question to begin with?
