  1. Hi! Achievements system is a great one and it can boost activity. But in it's current state there's just too many of them and their value is decreasing the more achievements users earn. Say, we have achievements for 10, 50, 100 and 500 posts. So when user will reach 500 posts they will have all 4 of them which is not great. And it's only one system. When we add another achievements to it it becomes a mess because achievements page is full of ranks of the same achievements.

I propose a simple solution. Instead of changing the system from scratch you can provide two variants - for those who are happy with so many achiements and for people who don't like how they work. In rules you'd need to add another condition like this:

then: assign a new achievents (exactly like it is now)

replace achievement (if exists) [dropdown list of achievements] with assigned one.

This will make this system much more usable.

Actually he has raised his prices now you mention it. By roughly 20% (I just checked his website and what I remember paying before).

I think any price rise is met with annoyance, no one wants to pay more than they did.

It's not about the fact that prices are rising. In my country it's a constant process, they never stop. It's about:

    1. That the gap between old and new prices is 50% which is a lot. I don't see many businesses do this to their loyal clients. We would understand something about 15-20%, not 50%.

    2. That you guys try to sell it like "but look at monthly rate! Not a big deal!". You seem to forget that people who are able to spend hundreds of dollars on forum software are adults and wouldn't fall to cheap marketing tricks. I'm a marketer myself, and I know exactly what is happening here.

    3. That you didn't inform us before this decision so any hobbyists could pay for their software. The greediness is not good.

    4. That you try to sell it like IPS is the best thing ever, some premium software that is nowhere near it's competitors. But would the best software company treat it's customers like this? For real?

    5. That you tried to cover it under website redesign.

    6. That you're telling us "pay more but if you have a problem - go ask community"

You know, it feels really bad. It's a really bad publicity. How many existing clients will recommend IPS after moves like this, how do you think?

  3. These news are nonsense. From what they are to the way they are being communicated.

"It's not bad news" - yeah, that's right. It's not bad news, it's terrible news. You can't call a 50% price increase "modest" while removing e-mail support and pricing it 1250$ annually.

By doing that you effectively cut hobby sites like mine. Paying 215$ for software that isn't making money in a country where median salary is 400$ is not a good idea at all.

But what's even worse is that you lack honesty in this. Instead of communicating this like "guys, there's a huge change in our business model, we now want medium and large businesses as our clients" you say something about "modest" price increasing and "strong community" that will help with bugs how? Why would I want to pay 215$ annually for not being able to deal with bugs at all? And I've found many before, which I was able to resolve thanks to your now gone support.

    I won't be supporting this.

Yes, there is. You can change the default category sorting records in the ACP.

And how does this help? Sorting by last update is the most logical way. It's set as default method because it's the most logical. But files popping up every time you change 1 word is neither logical nor user-friendly. I have to add a message every time I edit a file description because users think there's something new there. It's easily avoidable by adding a switch when you edit a file.

  5. Hi! It's an issue I'm having for a long time and it would be great if you'd do something about it.

The problem is that downloads are promoted to the first page every time they are edited. If you don't want that to happen there's nothing you can do about it. If you want to change some text but don't want an item to update it's position it's very unfriendly. As with adding those items as hidden, this would only need a switch while editing which would let you choose if you want to update them or you just want to edit them without them being promoted to the first page of their category.

    Thank you!

Why don't you simply create them in a "hidden" category before making them public?

Not a bad idea if you're and administrator. Sounds not that good if it's a user-generated content website. I can't tell my users to use a hidden category that is not hidden for everyone so this function is needed.

  7. Hi! There's a function when adding an article or even a blog that allows to add them as hidden/not published. For some reason it's not the case when adding a download item and either you need to add it with full description or you need to publish it and then set hidden which is a strange way to handle content on someone's website.

So it would be great to be able to add a file as hidden, just a tiny switch when adding a downloads item would be perfect.

    Thanks 😉

  8. Hi! I own a file-centric website where I publish translations for game modifications. What I'd like to do is to add a short description to category page so instead of taking a text from the main block it would display a short description.

There's custom fields in Invision and text field would fit just well. Is there any chance I could display it outside of file pages?
