Everyone at Invision Community is pleased to introduce Community Hive.
We are creating a new free-to-use service to help independent communities reach new audiences and re-engage existing members.
Community Hive delivers updates from your favourite communities and helps you explore new ones by bringing all the communities you follow into a single feed with optional email updates.
The Invision Community September 2023 release will bring Community Hive integration to Invision Community and we're also releasing integrations for XenForo, Squarespace and WordPress. More integrations for popular platforms are planned over the coming months.

    The "Why"
We believe in the power of independent communities. Technology has changed over the two decades we've been building community tools and despite the advances in technology a key problem independent communities still have is re-engaging existing members and finding new audiences. Social media has diminishing returns, and search results continually down-rank user-generated content. Reaching new audiences has never been more challenging.
Community Hive solves that by providing a single platform to showcase your content to new and existing audiences. We don't keep your content; the only way to engage is to visit your site, ensuring you retain complete control and ownership.
Regular updates via email and push notifications reach your existing members wherever they are.
As our attention spans shorten and our online time becomes more cluttered, checking in with each community becomes more of a struggle. Independent and forum based communities fight for attention with social media, and owned platforms like Discord and Slack. Allowing your members to follow your community with Community Hive gives you increased visibility and discoverability and helps level the playing field.

    The Platform
Community Hive has a familiar feed view with two main areas. "Following" shows a feed of communities you already follow to ensure you see more of what you like. This feed learns over time what content you favour and ensures you see more of what you like.
The "Discover" tab shows you a feed of content from communities outside of your following list, which is a great way to discover new online communities to join. Following is easy; you don't even need to register on the community to add it to your followed list on Community Hive.
Robust account management makes it easy to unfollow communities and set your desired audience classification preferences.
Community Hive is mobile-first with push notifications and is ready to be added to your phone's home screen as an app.

    Integration
Community Hive will launch with integration for several platforms such as XenForo, Squarespace and WordPress. Invision Community integration has several tools to nudge your members to add your community to Community Hive with buttons in key follow areas.

Following from a community only requests your email address. You can optionally set a password later on Community Hive to enable your feed to be viewed on multiple devices.

Clicking "Follow on Community Hive" from an Invision Community when you have an account with that community.

Clicking "Follow on Community Hive" from an Invision Community when you do not have an account with that community.
Community Hive will be launched in beta alongside Invision Community's September 2023 release, with integrations released for other platforms.
You can visit Community Hive now and join in the discussion on the Community Hive forums. We look forward to seeing you there!

You activate Community Hive in your Invision Community AdminCP. Once you do, you can then go to Community Hive to set your categories and indicate what age-group your community is targeted for. You can also control what types of content is shown on Community Hive.
Community Hive is designed to send traffic to your community. It does this in a few ways:
Content is only shown as a snippet so visitors must go to your community to read the full content. There are algorithms in place to learn what is popular and move it up your feed. Following your community on Community Hive does this via sending a visitor to your community first. This allows you the opportunity to capture the visitor to become a member on your community. If they are not ready to join, they can also follow anonymously. If they join later, they can link up their existing Community Hive account. Visitors cannot interact with your content on Community Hive. They have to go to your site. Happy to talk about Community Hive's integration with Invision Community here. But, if you have questions about Community Hive in general, please visit https://talk.communityhive.com to discuss.

Most cloud packages can already use external uploads outside of marketplace. We'll remove the limitation for the others.

I wasn't expecting this outcome. It's no secret it has been declining for years, so action was bound to be made. I like the Dev Directory, it's a very nicely made alternative and it gives more freedom to our Devs. Well done.

Thank you for checking out this quick, round up post. I hope you have a great weekend.
Our updates will continue to be brief. Version 5 has been a big focus for our team so far this year and we are making great progress! We will begin sharing non-technical updates soon.

    Current Happenings
For our Cloud customers, I did want to draw your attention to our post: Changes to traffic control. Please ask any questions that you have there.

The August release will be ready late this month and will include our spam improvements. Our August release chat is scheduled as well. Join us live if you can or catch the video and discussion in the converted topic after the event.

    Changelog
With that said, changes for version 4 are limited for now but for those that like to see what we are up to line by line, here is the changelog for the week for version 4.

If you’re not hosted by IPS, take a look at this topic:
If you agree to the new terms of your license, you can have all IPS apps right away, so you wouldn’t need to buy IP.Downloads. Actually they’re no longer selling separated apps.
I strongly recommend the reading and make questions there if you have any doubts. It really worth it.

    Hi all,
Next week we plan on releasing a few blogs outlining what development looks like for Invision Community v5.
I was curious as to what changes you'd like to see, and what changes do you think are coming?

Thank you @Matt @Charles @Lindy @Jordan Miller for stepping up, owning this and finding a compromise, especially one that is able to support and help protect struggling small fan communities and not for profits. It is hugely appreciated.
For what it's worth, I'll be re-adding my card details back and intend on renewing all my licenses that are due in the next 3 months.

I would be more concerned about the clients who are keeping quiet than the ones making a noise.  My mom was a fountain of wisdom right up until her demise at the grand old age of 89 years.  She used to drum this into me:
"It's OK to make mistakes, but always be sure to admit to them, take ownership and make sure that your mistakes never have a negative impact on others and if they do, then do something positive to make amends."
There's also a saying that everyone will be familiar with "Act in haste, repent at leisure"  Hindsight can be an awakening moment, but often it is too late when realisation hits home.
It's not too late to do something positive and resolve this horrible situation, but you need to act now to enforce damage control - I can see your competitors rubbing their hands in glee just waiting for the torrent of new clients heading their way. I cannot get my head around the rationalisation of this move - it really does beggar belief.

Not my case. This is my only source of income for a couple of years or so (yes, I’m not crazy to have 200 resources for nothing) but honestly, this is becoming a pain more and more at every “new thing” IPS does.
IPS don’t listen. Just read. Try to justify things and that’s it. Nothing will change.
So for the rest (of us) stop wasting your time debating here. That’s how it will be from now on.

I understand every business needs to make money and pay their employees however the way this was rolled out to the community today was just insanity, some notice should have been given for the increase to give people a chance to renew or do what they needed to do, even the support system i somewhat get but again no details.
For months the marketplace change has really bothered me and i'm sure others here but no change was made it's still the same.
One last thing that i find off is the sale or trade of a licence, I know IPS was burned in the past with charge backs however if the customer pays the fees and terms are final whats the issue? papal would read the terms of the charge back and deny payment, maybe consider customers that have been with you for some time.
As for the few remaining Dev,s you have here try and support them and give them a license with every app you have, they are making you dollars and bringing customer in here to spend even more cash.
    Takes money to make money.

They should have given us one last chance to renew the license at the old price. Without notification of a price increase, many developers will think about stopping development. I will also think about whether it makes sense to continue working on (free) extensions.
