Not 100% true. I pay 300$/year appx (I try to renew mostly on time but life expenses take priority on hobby expenses).
I get your 80$ calculation but just mentioning like me and many others, have your other addons, which adds to 300$/year and we haven't seen any ground breaking changes in Pages, Commerce, Blogs, etc. since few years.
Commerce is worst application for my use and I hope it can be improved, so that I can use either Commerce/Nexus or Donation but not forced to use both. Apologies for off topic on Commerce addon.

It would be nice Jordan if you can understand and implement, community feedback in your blogs. Here are few for you again:

It's not big ask - from AlexWebsites, Adriano and many others to clearly indicate in blog title - Cloud only feature.

Unfortunately delivering AI based features does require one of our higher monthly packages and isn't something that we can bring to the self hosted forum license which is funded by the $80/year renewals.

It is sad... How easy to forget us (I have been with IPB over 23 years, we supported IPB every possible way, we gave up on our lifetime licenses without question just a few) ... Anyway, very sad...

i have around 15 licences and pay a small fortune and now being restricted? I am also been using invision for 17 odd years or more and now feel like Invision do not appreciate loyal customers.

It's not easy making money from communities and I would imagine some really do struggle and having a cloud solution really doesn't work for them.

    Slight sour taste now.

I've been a client of IPS for about 17 years, and I am disappointed of the direction they are going in now. They are creating new features for their cloud clients even though they have several bugs that have gone unfixed for months. I haven't renewed my license because I feel like an idiot for paying for something that, after 17 years, I might not be allowed to use.

Please kindly recosider about this and the future cloud plan-exclusive feature. Don't abandon those self-hosted clients like this, IPS. At least, give this feature to  client who is paying to keep their license active, like you did with the Spam Defense feature. Thank you.

I do not understand why these are cloud only, what is so complex, does your servers run on some magical code that no one else have in the world? Really a pity Invision!

Shame you don't allow us to do this for the advanced users to host a socket, i don't like how you guys are forcing clients to use Cloud solutions for good features like this.

Would be curious to know what complexity is involved in the setup on Cloud that makes offering this to self hosted unviable?  Again this would seem like an example of allowing for optional feature enabling AND a setup guide for what's required even on a self hosting solution versus offering it ONLY on Cloud.  Just a bad look and approach, at some point it's going to start snowballing against IPS.  Choice vs no choice...IPS is forcing the latter for its own customers.
This reminds of the employer/employee relationship.  Employers should ensure they're fairly compensating their employees.   Once there's signs to the contrary, employees will start to interview and out of shear principle, when they find even an "equal" option, they're likely to leave for it.  Then the company will try to make good ONLY when they are given the letter of resignation, but by then it's too late.

Very cool feature, but sadly self-hosted communities (again) are left behind. 😞
I do not like the route IPS is going...

Yes - that. Getting excited and getting sad in a matter of minutes... Please label clearly if it for cloud only so it can be immediately understood.

Why don't you use a pre-fix with the title like: [Cloud Only] New Live Community Features!
Save all us self-hosters some time in our day...

From what I understand only for communities with a someone paid plan. So this not be available for self-hosted instances.
By the way, they should mark these types of articles with the information that the features are only available to CLOUD users.

They are stating self-hosting will continue to receive updates, however the writing appears to be on the wall that the exclusive cloud features will continue to accumulate to attempt to push more people that way.

Does this only work for customers who host their services on IPS servers? And some of the new features too?
    alerts
    Real Time Who's Typing
    Real Time Who's Viewing
    Search will include images
    Sentiment analysis data collection
    Trending Content
The best content of the update so is for those who host with you? In my case I have my own server so I manage everything myself.
I looked to activate these features because it would help me a lot and I can't find one anywhere.

I hope you’re getting an IPS employee discount…😉 these plans are just not financially comparable to self hosting, especially for multi-site owners such as myself. No matter how much math I do, it’s not even close for me.

Now just add real time views and typing to self hosting and I'll sign a NCA (Non-crying agreement) for an entire year.

I think that the example of discourse is really a very bad example, I just installed it and without being a professional, but rather an "average webmaster" and the ease was almost disconcerting thanks to the docker which already integrates all the configuration, it is just necessary to download in command line this one, to modify the file of configuration, to deploy it, to redirect the ports and all is made
The power of the server is also in my opinion a false excuse, here is the configuration of ours :

We have several sites running in production:
    - A 15 year old Ipboard forum
    - A 10 year old mediawiki.
    - A handmade exchange site
    - A dolibbar for accounting management.
    - An interactive map
    - A new version of the interactive map in development
    - 2 Redis docker
    - 2 Docker elastica
    - A KF2 game server
    - Three docker (api, angular) for the management of the map
    And recently
    - A Discourse docker
    - A new mediawiki (with soon another docker redis & elastica).
Everything is running very well at 15% of max resource consumption.
So I don't think a new docker will bring down our server, but a $500 a month plan to get the latest ipb features will melt my wallet.

You can't really believe that. Complaining is what got us Zapier for self hosting and the return of 6 month renewals instead of 12 months, and a dismissible "upgrade to cloud button" just to name a few within the past couple months. 🙂

You are talking about Xenforo or Vbulletin?
We already have features in teh self hosted to use Redis and Elasticsearch if we want. I don't see any reason why we wounldn't also be able to use Node JS if we wanted to.
If im not mistaken, the realtime new features uses Node JS. IPS already submitted the code to the cloud platform, why not doing it also for the self host, and who wants to use, they simple install and configure Node JS. The ones that can't do that or don't want do that, well, they don't use the feature.
We already do that with Redis and Elasticsearch.

Truly difficult to take this bit serious when in the blog post you mentioned that this feature is great for gaming communities. A group of people that wouldn't be in your business bracket. So a lot less tailoring and more guessing I presume?
Cloud exclusives are one thing, but also adding specific package features? This isn't going to work. I miss being excited seeing new features knowing it'll be for everyone, not having to sift through changelogs and blog posts to see if I even qualify.. It's pretty sad. I hope you realize this before it's too late.

    Hi Matt,
usually you don't reply to my posts, I still write 😛
To put something like two new blocks of "trending content" in a $549 package - I'd be ashamed. Already $149 is a lot, but still somehow justifiable for ambitious projects. Developing AI image moderation and object tagging, that I understand as a challenge, but not two blocks of "trending content".
And what I also still don't understand: Technically your focus is still on the forum, the gallery hasn't had a major update in a very long time. Is the AI supposed to help moderate photos in forums, where they should be blowing up most threads? Or maybe something is still happening with the gallery?
    Greetings from Berlin
    Claudia
