Exactly. Option to have custom emoji at the top would make so much more sense.
I also feel it would be good to be able to choose which emoji appear in the emoji box. Obviously all emojis could still be used on the site, as people could use the built-in emoji keyboard on their device. But in the emoji box in the editor, we don't really need 100s of flags and symbols to be loaded every time - would be nice if we could just select which emojis to show in the emoji box in the editor, since a tiny fraction of them get used.

zyx got a reaction from ZLTRGO in (Idea) Adult/High-Risk Payment Gateway Integration
Firstly, having used IPS in the past with the standard mainstream payment gateways, I just want to say thanks for creating such a great, seamless experience for users when paying.
Unfortunately, I am sure there are a fair few of us who run sites deemed too high-risk by the likes of PayPal and Stripe (and it is far more than just hardcore adult sites that fall into this category).
I realise this may be a long-shot, but I just wanted to throw out there a request for integration with a 'high-risk' payment processor, such as CCBIll (or any other processor that accepts a wider range of sites).
I am aware there is currently a third party plugin for $500 for partial ccbill integration, but for a more hobby-based site this is a large upfront fee, and it does not appear to work seamlessly with commerce features in the same way paypal/stripe would (no payout options to members etc). Your entire site's revenue being dependant on a third-party add-on is also quite risky in itself, so the idea of IPS supporting something like this in its core functionality would be incredible for many of us. (This is certainly not a criticism of the developers working on third party plugins, just a desire to see IPS offer their own version).
I realise the fundamental problem here is not to do with IPS, but instead the way all high-risk niches are lumped in together regardless of a site's track record or specific usage case. However, we have to work with what we've got, and there are some payment processors that do allow a broader range of sites and communities to accept payments. My (wishful) request is for one of these high-risk payment processors to seamlessly work with IPS in the same way stripe and paypal do.
I think there are a surprising number of people who can't use the standard payment processors due to their restrictions. I just wanted to make this thread as it might sound like quite an obscure need, but 'high risk' includes things like virtual game currencies, fantasy sports league prizes etc -  the amount of communities that would benefit from the inclusion of this type of payment gateway would be huge. Whilst it would be a big win for site owners like myself, it would hopefully be a win for IPS too in terms of attracting new customers to their commerce package. I already know of two other website owners would purchase an IPS license if this type of integration was included.
    Thanks.

zyx reacted to Colonel_mortis in My initial impressions of achievements
I've not really played around with achievements yet, but I think that's all the more reason to give this feedback now.
My initial impression as a user on this site is that it's not obvious:
What points are How I get points, and how many points things are worth How many points I have How the ranks compare (beyond just that each one is higher than the previous) (ie how many points each rank is worth) What I can do to unlock new badges (there's an argument that some badges should be secret, but certainly most should not) These are the sorts of things that experienced members will figure out within a couple of weeks, and maybe all that information is available for users somewhere that I'm not immediately seeing. However, the fact that I'm not immediately seeing it is the problem. For achievements to really work they need to be walk-up usable - a new member needs to be incentivized to ask questions, to post good answers, and to come back to the site next week, and right now, it doesn't do that.
On the user menu, it highlights my rank and progress, which is great, but I want to click it and see more details. It feels weirdly non-interactive, and leaves me wanting more info.
For a good case study, take a look at Stack Overflow. I can look at all the badges, and see my progress towards them. I also see a graph of my rep (which on SO is less valuable because rep is compounding as people find your old questions, but on forums would be a more active incentive to keep increasing it).
Building on the SO example, wouldn't it be neat if achievement ranks could be configured to actually benefit you? Even the group promotion rules are conspicuously missing the ability to promote by rank. I want to set some rules like "level 1 can only use forums, level 2 can use blogs and status updates, level 3 can post news, level 4 can use classifieds, level 5 gets more messenger storage, etc", which I think would be a great way to incentivise engagement and give users a goal to work towards that is more than just a slightly different coloured icon on their profile picture.
Also, and this is borderline a bug, the default badge descriptions are inconsistent - some don't have descriptions, some have passive descriptions ("a week since joining"), some have present tense descriptions ("making your first post"), and some have past tense descriptions ("visited daily for a week"). There's also no way to edit them (which I will report as a bug).
Another thing - wouldn't it be nice if getting a badge could give you points? As far as I can see, that's not a thing at the moment.

zyx reacted to Jimi Wikman in The "Pronouns" Feature in Invision Community
I think this is better as a plugin.
It's a seriously infected issue that will cause division in the user base. Personally I would never add it, unless my community is based around a community that think this is important. The reason for that is that it is pretty much a safe bet that people will behave just as bad as on Twitter and I think we have enough trolls to worry about to not add strife amongst our members if we can prevent it.
I am all for expressing yourself and adding whatever labels you feel is appropriate to your community, but this is what custom fields are for and this is what plugins should be used for in my opinion.

It'd be great if there were an option for announcements to be pushed out as notifications to specific user groups (as in the little bell notifications, rather than a box above the forum/sidebar as it currently is).
Not sure if there is a reason this isn't included, but I'm sure many people would have uses for this.  🙂

Why not just leave it in? It's already built in. Why we can't have both? Just make it turned off as default for new installations. Why it can't be that simple?

A very belated response - but thanks for pointing me in the right direction for those plugins.
I'll certainly take a look at both, but I still feel in the future it would be great to see more announcement options within core IPS.
    For example:
Announcements via notifications Announcements via private messages Announcements as popup window Announcement where something must be agreed to / clicked / acknowledged before proceeding to use site (similar to when rules/terms change, but customisable for other uses) I realise different paid plugins can do some of these, but I am sure I can't be alone in hoping that IPS consider adding more ways to directly reach users in future versions.

The Tag cloud in this is great, but as mentioned above, sadly the app has been abandoned.
Would be nice to see IPS incorporate a tag cloud widget by default, as we found it was a really popular feature.
And if we're really dreaming here, it would be even better to have the option within the widget of whether to show all tags for the entire site, or specifically tags for the current app.
By which I mean, if you're in the gallery, you could opt to have the tag cloud show only tags used in the gallery, and when clicking on a tag, only show gallery items with that tag. Same would apply if the widget was used on the forums, or in downloads and so on.
But either way, any sort of tag cloud (that shows a clickable list of all the different tags used) would be a really useful feature.

The new 'trophy cabinet' style page on our profiles is a nice addition. Interestingly, according to that summary I haven't earns a badge since 2015, so I'm wondering if that's accurate or perhaps not?
It may also be nice to be able to set the default profile page to a featured admin or per user choice, About Me, Achievements, Recent Content etc?
Will there be any integration or display of achievements within the Leaderboard?
An option to display this in the postbit area would be great!

Keep up the great work on Achievements!

Can the rules be completely customisable?
Could I for example, have someone be awarded a badge for creating a topic in a certain category and then also be awarded based on their specific group?

    Example:
User makes 10 posts, changes their user group *badge awarded*.
User requests to be put into a certain group after x amount of posts, and each group can award the user who joins *badge awarded to represent their group*.
While you currently show rank images, could we also have an option to display badges on the Authorpane in topic view?

Or to be able to make a rule where only certain badges can be shown in the topicview?

While we have user group icons, I'd like to show special badges as part of the user group.
Just a couple of suggestions I had rolling in the head... As it's something I've been trying to do, as at the moment Fosters app allows you to manually award someone.

Badges already support this - when you create the rule that awards the badge, you can enter a member-facing summary of the rule, e.g. "You posted 50 replies!".

    HAPPY Hump Day!
A lot has gone down in the last week or two. In case you need a little refresher, we recently soft-launched Achievements. It'll be available for all in the coming weeks, but for now you can get a taste of it here in our own community.
The response has been insanely epic 👏
The feedback even more so 🤯
I personally took notes of all the feedback provided. We've already started implementing some key changes (shout-out to our super talented development team!! Show them some love in the comments), including:
Explanation for how you earned a badge Current position / max number of ranks shown so you know how far you have to go Added tooltips on rank badges Added lazy loading Optimized rebuild routine Fixed a bunch of bugs I know that only scratches the surface, but keep in mind we'll continue better Achievements over time! 🤠
Lots to absorb here. Now that you've had some time to digest Achievements, how are you feeling about it? Sound off in the replies below! 🥳
PS - here's a short-list of some of the 4.6 fixes we worked on in the last week:

    - Added a confirmation pop-up when mass approving account withdrawals.
    - Added an option to limit Withdrawal requests to one per currency at any time.
    - Fixed an issue where the AdminCP livesearch results link to categories instead of blogs.
    - Removed Aggregate rating from JSON-LD structured data
    - Worked around a bug in MySQL when viewing statistics in the AdminCP.

Just a little suggestion about 'Who's Online'
    For example:
Who is Online: 3 Members, 0 Anonymous, 20 Guests

If there is no anonymous user, system must hide it automatically like:
Who is Online: 3 Members, 20 Guests

or if there are only  guests on forum:
     Who is Online: 20 Guests

It'll be a little better, right?

I second that, having a core feature to send news as notifications to members using various filters much like BULK MAIL does. it would be great if we could send short messages as notifications to members. even having some sort of analytics how many members viewed the notification or click on it would be nice.

Yeah, I know of these plugins, but I'm afraid I don't feel comfortable with letting a 3rd party get involved with such a complex (imho) feature.
I'd feel much better if that was a core feature developed and supported by IPS themselves.
