Tracy Perry got a reaction from Allegheny in Extra Fields search is useless/do not work the way it is
Agreed, if the field is important enough to be collected, it should be important enough to be able to be searched upon. It is very limiting to not allow that and defeats the purpose of custom fields.

There are no circles in the block/widget (for example for a portal page). Threads with unread posts are bold, but you cannot directly go to the first unread post.

Best solution is to use a somewhat standard format in that the topic links to the first unread post. Pretty sure most of the scripts perform the same, not requiring you to click on a little round circle to read the newest post.
XenForo - click on topic takes you to first unread post
Burning Board - click on topic takes you to the first unread post
myBB - click on the topic takes you to the first unread post
Seeing a trend here yet? IPS is apparently the only one that the users have to learn a whole new process for. Really helps towards that user friendliness, requiring them to learn a whole new process JUST to use your site compared to other (possibly competitor) sites that they use. Guess which they will tend to keep going back to? Odds are it's not going to be the strange duck that requires them to have to relearn/think about what is "normal" for them on other sites.
And to top it off, clicking on that little round button is not "easy" on mobile when compared to clicking on that nice long topic text.

I'm sensing a pattern in recent posts, and that pattern is: IPS Search could definitely use a major upgrade.

Putting my weight in here also.
I'm using Google Custom Search (CSE) on my site now as the built-in search is just terrible and the search result page was high on my sites Exit Pages.
Adding to this the inability to search extra fields is just absurd and creates a strangle hold on a community market place that IPS are so keen to build up and improve.

I got an extra field in Downloads, for example (this is a model, happens in any app), with option to search:
Then I got a file with this field filled:
But when I search for something or here, I got nothing:
Also tried to search for:
here "something here" something here something+ here+
How it should be?
Exactly like PROFILE FIELDS on Members search:
Those two (yelllow) fields are profile fields, so the user can search for them.
That doesn't happen on Extra Fields model. My Extra Field do not appear in the Advanced Search form:
No sign of the Extra Field there.
What's the point in allow the user to add a bunch of extra fields and do not retrieve records based on them?
I would like to request the addition of Extra Fields in the Advanced Search form, when the app uses it.
Thank you.

Tracy Perry reacted to Joel R in Pages templates
"A different article style" by @TAMAN
I'd like to point out to any IPS representative who might read this topic that v4 has been out for one year, and yet the community has only managed to offer 1 community guide and 1 Marketplace purchase. There's clearly not enough community support or community innovation for what should be the most extensible app out of the suite, and that creates a steep learning curve for new admins who are uninitiated to Pages. I think even a handful of article block templates (like 4 - 6 different styles) can go a long ways towards helping non-technical admins put together some amazing pages.

Tracy Perry got a reaction from sobrenome in Please add a rotate pic option
Looks like it will require a code change to the core IPS script. XenForo suffered the same issues until they changed the code in their 1.3 version to fix this issue.

Pics STILL sideways here: http://hotspotoutdoors.com/forums/topic/179426-anyone-get-their-sites-going/
Why isn't this fixed?
Sideways pics being posted @Lindy @Charles lead to more people leaving IPS forums because it is not as visually appealing and IT'S ANNOYING.
Please, please fix.

Tracy Perry reacted to Biker.GA in Expanded "ignore user" features
If number one is ever (heaven forbid) implemented, Admins MUST have a way of prohibiting it from being used on their site. I don't care if users ignore each other, but I will not stand for users determining who can and who can not post on the site.
As for number 2, why in tarnation isn't it done this way to begin with? If a user is on ignore, everything from that user shouldn't be displayed to the person. Posts, topics, etc. Should all be hidden from view.

Tracy Perry reacted to Kevin Carwile in IPS Rules Application
The latest version of rules lite implements a new strategy which significantly reduces the overhead caused by this to the point where it should not be a major bottleneck now for low powered sites.
The full version has no decoding overhead.

Tracy Perry got a reaction from Kevin Carwile in IPS Rules Application
It's not the plugin itself per-se that is slowing it down (nor the number of rules), but the fact that the code has to be decrypted before it is ran. This will be especially telling on a shared server. Not so much on a VPS or a dedicated (unless they are overloaded) - and even less so if using an HTTP server like nginx or LiteSpeed (or OpenLiteSpeed) - which are a tad more efficient in most cases than Apache.
The different ways of "processing" php in Apache are not as efficient as with OLS/LS/nginx from my experience.

Tracy Perry reacted to mesteele101 in (NB40) Pinned Posts
It's a little disheartening to see developers splitting these seemingly trivial tasks like this into multiple modules, and its not just this developer. It a few years its just going to get crazy keeping up with all these modules.
Pinned Topics & Pinned posts
I think the developer would get a more favorable response it the above two were in the same module.
Just my two cents...
