  1. This is set by the Members automatically follow content they... setting under Notifications > Followed Content in the ACP:

Members can change this setting themselves in their notification settings, or when creating new content. It’s not possible to force this setting to always be on, except by creating a plugin and hooking into the relevant code.

everything is correct with the themes.

    It doesn't seem so.

Have you tried to run the support tool to restore the default theme like the message says, or have you tried different themes to see if they too are affected? You should also deactivate any third-party applications or plugins you have recently installed, as they may cause issues such as this.

Note however that many improvements will come from server related performance, rather than the software.

While this is true, most of the "opportunities" presented by PageSpeed Insights are things I have little or no control over, such as eliminating render-blocking resources and removing unused JavaScript and CSS. These improvements will have to come from you, though I imagine they would require insane amounts of work and are therefor not prioritized.

I know these numbers will depend on a lot of factors, but I think they speak of an underlying issue – not as in something you've done wrong, but something that's hard to "fix": When viewing the front page on my community, 77% of root_framework.js and 92% of framework.css is unused. When viewing a topic, the numbers are 74% of root_framework.js and 89% of framework.css. Given the required time and resources, these files and the rest of the scripts and style sheets could be massively optimized, which in turn will benefit everyone, especially mobile visitors.

  4. I'm not completely sure I understand your question, but you can set the ACP theme to either light, dark, or automatic (according to your browser or system theme) from the top menu on the right side:

I might be wrong, but I don't think it's possible to make changes to the ACP theme anymore, not without creating a custom hook.

  5. I agree completely, especially regarding password-less server access. My way of solving this issue is to leave the support account in the member group, and only make it an administrator when I actually need support. In addition to this, I have disabled password-less access to my servers and it’s never been necessary to change this.

I did once try to configure SFTP with access to the necessary files only, but on my current setup this is disabled as well.

  6. I signed up with a test user and can confirm that the images disappear if you’re logged in. I assume it has something to do with why I’m able to “edit” the post by clicking somewhere in the post text:

    image.thumb.png.541de4fae66fc95949a64f8479dd1e1d.png

I can only “edit” this post, not the other posts in the topic. Try to disable the relevant plugin/application and see if it makes any difference!

Edit: The image in this post works just fine in Safari, even when logged in.

  7. I see all four images in Safari on both my Mac (running macOS 12.0.1) and my iPhone (running iOS 15.3). Does it happen with any other images in other posts? Do you have any extensions running, or are you using special network settings?

You should also check the developer console in Safari for any error messages. To open this console, go to Preferences > Advanced and enable “Show Develop menu in menu bar”. Then, press Command + Option + C, and look for any messages marked with yellow or red.

  8. This is possible and actually not that complicated, but exactly how you do it depends on which themes you use.

Edit: This articles may be of help: https://ryanfeigenbaum.com/dark-mode/

In short, you need to create a button that changes the theme, just like the theme selector at the bottom of your forum. This is not that difficult if you know a bit of HTML, CSS and JavaScript. Let me know if you need guidance!

Hi. We have already discussed about this in several topics.

And for those looking for an official response, the latest one I found after reading all the linked topics is this post from 2018:

LOL. Mine is half that. 250,000 posts and 25 GB of files. and I still feel the same, that I spent way too much time on it.

I guess there’s no such thing as too much time, as long as we’re having fun!

exactly what I am trying to achieve. Not there yet. Maybe you can post some of your script so we "steal" your ideas.

Most of my scripts are made especially for my infrastructure and community, and would not work well for others, but I’ll see what I can do. In the meantime I advice you to read about and play with Terraform and Ansible. I use Terraform to setup my infrastructure, and Ansible to install, configure, and maintain everything.

How big is your community @Runar ?

We’ve currently got around 500,000 posts and 50 GB of uploaded files, so not that big compared to others and probably not big enough to justify all the hours I’ve spent on everything.

But I can setup and move to a new server by running one script, and have a working community with all data intact (at most one hour old) within a few minutes. By now, tweaking the servers is just as much a hobby as actually running the community.

you store separately these? Could you walk me a bit how you do this?

I can write something more detailed later, but basically I’ve created a bucket on Amazon S3 with two subdirectories: content, for everything uploaded by my members, and static, for static files such as icons, theme files and similar. My reason for splitting in two directories is to be able to use different cache rules for different types of content, though I don’t do this anymore.

I do hourly backups of my database and files, just because I can and it was fun to configure, and daily backups of my server. I don’t backup the content on S3, but I’m looking into different solutions.

Datastore folder seems a folder that is changed every second. Sort of a cache, not sure but my intuition tells me it should or could be easily ignored, incremental syncing all others.

I don’t have the technical knowledge to tell you exactly what the datastore directory contains, but I know it includes, among other things, information about your license. If you copy everything inside your main directory to a new location, it’ll just work, but if you leave out datastore (I believe) you’ll have to setup some things manually.

How do one verify that backups work?

Preferably by trying to setup a new site on a new (test) server, or locally, using your backup.
