  1. Hi guys I have an odd problem on my site. Default avatars have disappeared. This seemed to be the default IPS ones as far as I can tell. I have had my developer look into it as initially we believed it to me an AWS issue. The avatars in question all have a structure like this F_member_56164.png However it hasn't seemed to effect all of them. Some are still showing. Any ideas why this would be happening? This started 3 days ago and to my knowledge no changes have been made on the site in that time that could effect this.
  2. Anyone know the legalities of using a plugin such as this please?
  3. I just purchased the one above, works a treat. Only $20 and with no 6 monthly renewal fees like most plugins
  4. This. I can never understand what drives anyway to spend hours running and moderating a facebook community that could literally be on the verge of being closed at any time. The facebook group that accompanies my forum will most certainly be shut down for racism at some point and there will be nothing I can do about it
  5. Hi Spanner, I have both reviews and comments enabled on company directory. I get notifications of reviews but not for comments, and they don't show up in the activity feed either. Is there anywhere I can go to view these comments without scouring through every listing?
  6. Not what I mean sorry. I mean if I can secure a heavily discounted product from one of my sponsors with a limit of say 40 units available, I can advertise is at a group bulk buy on the forum. In this case 'group' isn't referring to member group type
  7. Considering the possibility of a group buy feature on the forum. There are wordpress options available for this, but it would be quite cool if this were integrated into IPS. Can't see anything in the market place though. Is this something others might be interested in if I were to commission an app by @DawPi or someone else?
  8. Hi, could someone explain how to drop an email template into bulk mail please? I stupidly assumed it would be as easy as making up a template in an online builder and dropping the html into the editor, but that doesn't seem to be the case.
  9. This! I have often been concerned I have too many adverts on my site (I have a lot), but when polled the majority of my users said they view the adverts as more of a resource than an annoyance. Google ads on the other hand people did complain about so I removed them, all except for the off topic lounge forum.
  10. If your move was anything like mine, I lost over 50% of my page views overnight which would have a massive knock on effect if you are relying on impression driven advertisement. Getting private advertisers paying a monthly fee would be a better route
  11. Private ads are the way to go. Your niche and how well known your site is will dictate if this is feasible or not
  12. Already spoken to Dawpi about this. Also I have one other member interested in chipping in. I'll be in touch
  13. Well it took 20 posts but looks like we may have reached some common ground 😂
  14. This would be the ideal scenario. My userbase in particular would never bother though unfortunately. Maybe if there was a field that said 'describe what this photo is about?' or 'rather than 'add alt text' might increase the liklihood a little
  15. The point being, they are not going to rank for any keyword of any value if they are tagged with img_123456, unless of course someone happens to be googling that term. Ok this is the sort of information I was looking for, thanks
  16. They may get indexed but indexed where exactly. They certainly aren't going to show up in google Take this image as an example. With over 200,000 images on my site I should have them showing up in the 'images for' section of a google search. I understand that a good percentage of the images won't necessarily be relevant to the thread title, but even if some are showing up its better than others? Which brings me back to a part of my initial question. Would wrongly tagged images(as suggested by Nathan) be determental, or would they simply show up in the wrong place and thats that?
  17. Hi, thanks for the response. I bow to your superior knowledge to an extent, and I agree an AI type service isn't feasible. But to my mind surely the topic title would generally be better than the file name? For example, one topic on my forum currently is titled Hyundai 14HP wood chipper yet the images posted within have alt tags such as "img_2717", surely that would be more beneficial if it was tagged with 'hyundai 14hp wood chipper'? I just checked and I have 219750 images posted on my forum, and according to google webmaster tools only 350 of those images are indexed which seems a huge loss of an opportunity. Again, I am constantly learning and accept you guys know better, but for my own personal learning if you could explain to me where the logic in my plan is floored i'd be grateful 🙂
  18. I have a massive amount of images on my forum yet very few listing in google for them. I see that IPS automatically applies the file name as the alt tag, lets face it, members are never going to add them even though the option is there. Instead of the file name being added as default, would using the thread title be more beneficial for SEO purposes, or on a large thread with multiple images with the same tag would this prove detrimental?
  19. If I allow this option for a user who has 10,000 posts on the forum, would 10,000 signature links pointing back to their site be considered spammy by google?
  20. Once you have taken the time to set it up properly I think you'll be more than happy with IPS's built in anti spam features. I basically get zero spam anymore unlike when I was on vb3.8. I don't use any of the additional anti-spam plug ins either
