    Hi @Dreadknux
Funnily enough, this is something we discussed internally a few weeks ago. We're working hard on revamping Pages at the moment, so we'll be able to provide more information in the future about widget customizations 🙂

Cost of doing business I guess. But most of people like me cannot make switch as third party devs goes awol and their designs unsupported, add-ons broken. So would IPS take some decisions on making moves over this? It doesn't work if thirdy party devs fails to meet the requirements, unless one day we won't have any third party and all inhouse 🤔

Is this going to be different in case of yearly or same monthly rules apply? i.e. need to pay for missed year as well?

Frankly, as of now my overall cost for renewal for 3 licenses is abt 170-180$ I think,so about $360/yr, but if I make a switch that directly raises that to abt $600/yr. I ain't seeing any profits to me here + I keep an extra license just for my own development and testing activities with real users, so I get actual feedback for my major projects, so that license I may or may not renew for long period of time.

Its suitable for those who probably have 1 single license (mostly) but for those who have multiple, for simple testing purposes it not suitable.
Note: Cannot use -Testinstall as it requires to block public access where as I need to measure impact around google/bing.

@Charles will these license terms affect third party devs? I was blocked on version 4.4 once Velion went awol and left me with a broken design. So why would I renew? As upgrade mostly breaks the designs.. That's mainly my experience, cannot say for someone else.

JustinHawk reacted to Ehren in Introducing a fresh new vision for Invision Community 5
    Welcome to Invision Community 5!
Over the coming weeks, we'll be exploring a bunch of new features and improvements coming to our user interface including our brand new theme editor, a new mobile UI, dark mode and performance improvements thanks to a reduction in both JavaScript and CSS. To kick off this series, let’s take a closer look at the new sidebar layout and new view modes for the forum index and topic pages.
    Sidebar Layout
Traditionally, Invision Community has shipped with a horizontal header and navigation bar at the top of the page, which is still available in version 5. We're introducing a brand new (and optional) sidebar layout, which can be enabled or disabled easily from within your theme settings. The sidebar not only provides convenient access to your applications, activity streams and search bar, but you can now add links to nodes for even easier access to popular or commonly used areas of your community. For example - a category from your forum, an album from the Gallery, or a product group from Commerce.
    Sidebar-zoom.mp4
    Forum Index: Feed view
One of our goals for version 5 was to re-imagine new ways for your visitors to consume content, and the sidebar layout is just one of our solutions. Table view has been the typical way of displaying forums, providing visitors with a simple summary of the most recently active topic. Grid mode introduced cover photos to forums and is a great way to make your page more visually engaging, while fluid view allows visitors to filter through a list of topics to easily focus on multiple areas of the community.
Joining these view modes in version 5 is our new Feed view. Optional cover photos and featured forum colours allow you to personalise each forum, and a list of recently active topics with snippets of the most recent reply allow you to easily see what each forum is focusing on at a glance. The topic list drops below the cover photo and converts to a scrollable list on small devices. It's our fresh take on content display, and we can’t wait to hear your feedback!

    Topic pages: Compact view
In addition, Invision Community 5 also introduces a new, compact layout option for topics. We wanted to create a layout which placed focus on your content while still keeping all of the authors profile information easily accessible within a mini profile. Stats, rank, badges, reputation points and more can be found by tapping the icon at the top of every post. The mini profile strip has also been added to other areas of the software too, such as comments and reviews in applications like Gallery and Blogs, and will appear on the mobile layout when the traditional "table view" is used in topics.
Switching between the new compact view and the author sidebar view takes just seconds giving you complete control over your community.
    Mini profile.mp4

As part of this view, you also have the choice to feature/pin the original post to the top of every page, making it a breeze for your visitors to easily understand the context of replies without navigating back to page 1. Pinned posts have a slightly larger font-size to distinguish them from replies, and we've thoughtfully truncated them on pages beyond the first to keep scrolling to a minimum.

The new sidebar layout and view modes offer a fresh and innovative approach to navigating and interacting with your community. We’re really keen to hear your thoughts on these new views and whether you’ll be unleashing them on your own sites! We appreciate that no two sites are the same, and those who are a fan of the classic header look will benefit from quick styling tools and a visual way to re-arrange the header elements which we’ll cover in a later blog.
We’re looking forward to showcasing a whole bunch of new features over the coming weeks - so stay tuned, and we’ll see you then!

JustinHawk reacted to sefla in Software over 15 years has become a mess for me
It took most of the day and a ton of trial and error fixes.
First main issue was I could not download the software from the client area.
After I made this post I was able to.  I reuploaded everything except the Uploads folder
Did many other things mainly with htaccess and SSL.
What I did absolutely think worked best was changing in the conf_global area 'installed=true' then did a site update.
A cumulation of all those things and so far so good.

Support is handled manually here via PM or through my site. For a support request, the purchase key should be added to the request. I have no plans of moving my products and their purchases to my site at the moment. I don’t really expect further sales or support issues to justify this. I will just deal with the few request that might come in manually.
I might start offering 5.x products on my site if what I do is still possible with 5.x. We will see.

I've got a few spare licenses that are not in use at all - no domains attached, not actively licensed.
Any chance these can remain "parked" until I activate them for actual use and then the "keep up with renewals or else" stuff kicks in? I'd hate for these licenses I paid for to go extinct for lack of use (rather than in-use but lagging on renewals). If the current opt-in thing for the new way stays in place for all these oldies; then I think were good because I can just "opt-in" when they go active; but getting clarity here would be nice. I think this is/was clarified above... still gonna ask about this specific use (non-use) case.
Also, while we're here... some of these changes I wouldn't mind seeing applied to the Marketplace. I've got people renewing stuff for super cheap simply because the renewal price was cheap years and years ago but new renewal prices do not apply to them. Also, if staying current with renewals is the new model, having that for Marketplace purchases seems a fair option for us to apply to our stuff as well. Granted; probably some dev on your end, but I'm thinking both of these requests would be welcomed by most if not all the Marketplace participants. This would also allow us to adjust our pricing downwards if we knew we'd be getting a more steady stream of revenue.

It is per-license and the promotion to extend your renewal date for free is also calculated per-license.

But if I have a forum license, why do you have to FORCE me to pay more (from 110 to 199 per year), giving me applications like Pages, Commerce and Blog which honestly are garbage since you can get better results using other software?
In my project I use Forum and Gallery and honestly, Gallery is so poorly structured and neglected by your development that it is not worth buying. You should offer a light package, only forum.
I also have another project, an Italian support forum, invisionita, which is 13 years old. With these prices, it is becoming unsustainable for me to continue maintaining the project, translating the platform into Italian and helping with guides, etc. I cannot afford to pay $199 for unofficial Italian support.

Licenses that expire without payment will immediately lose access to support, upgrades, spam prevention, geo location, and more. Reinstating a license will require catching up on any missed monthly payments or pay a full year renewal. Licenses not renewed after 24 months will be expired permanently and cannot be renewed, but you may purchase a new license for full price.

Would like some better clarification on Reinstating a license terms, so we pay for all missed payment if selected monthly like a loan/emi payments?

To stop people's fear and hopefully stop the private message questions:

    1. Yes, this application is going to be ported to v5. I'm not sure yet if all the features will work or if some will have to be removed but to stop the fear => YES, it's going to be available for v5
    2. More important: Everybody who purchased this for v4, will also gain access to the v5 version as long as the purchase hasn't expired AKA you'll not need to purchase it again, but you'll probably have to pay the renewal price.

My wishes centre on internationalisation and localisation because I run a site which must give equal standing to two languages.
Allow admins to provide a FURL for every aspect of a URL. In 4.x the app names are fixed because they come from /applications/[app]/data/furl.json, meaning that non-English sites are condemned to have English words such as files and store in their URLs. Allow admins to create and match equivalent pages depending on the language with their own slugs. For example, you have invisioncommunity.com/features/clubs/ on this site. If it were necessary for you to have a multilingual site, you would be able to create an associated page (very likely with the same content aside from text) with its own slug, such as invisioncommunity.com/trajtoj/kluboj/. When a link is created in the Menu Manager or written within content, the site would know that on click it is to load the language-dependent associated page; is somebody manually types <a href="invisioncommunity.com/features/clubs/"> within a post, the site would redirect to an associated language-dependent associated page. Please move away from the approach of concatenating different language strings as a short-cut. What works in English often doesn't in other languages, and I'm forced to present grammatical mistakes in some parts of my site because words which are plugged in interchangeably in English strings take different forms depending on their grammatical role. My word for a post will have different forms in the superficially similar: {!#[?:%s liked]} %s and %s reacted to %s:, for example. A long shot but please consider providing occasional context of how a language string is used. Translators need to know, for example, whether Report is a noun or a verb. (Incidentially, because of the previous point, I have instructions in an email notification inviting moderators to "Click to see this To report" because if I change to our equivalent noun, then the instruction "Report" on the content containers is the wrong word.)  It might be possible already for people more knowledgable than me but it would often be useful to be able to change the user's language setting via something in the URL. We're a UK-based charity so have English as our default language but our activity is worldwide using another. It'd be great for me if the language could be set as the second one for a visitor following a link such as invisioncommunity.com/cy for Welsh, for example.

JustinHawk reacted to SeNioR- in [Suggestion] Better JS/CSS optimization and Mobile First
Hi Guys. I've tested a few different forum topics for mobile friendliness, and it turns out that many self-hosted forums don't meet the mobile-friendly requirements. It seems that Google is blocking many necessary resources (CSS Framework and JS Libraries) so such a topic is devoid of a stylesheet and does not meet the criteria for "Core Web Vitals" and has a low "Page Experience" value.
If we look for an indexed topic and check its cache version, we'll see that it doesn't have a stylesheet. Not in all cases, but in many.
I hope that v5 will be better optimized and will not load so much unnecessary code that the Googlebot is unable to handle.

BTW: In 2024, Google is expected to introduce a INP.

JustinHawk reacted to nodle in Child themes version number not updating in database
Thats odd I always thought it was parent master code> child inherited parent's code? So, wouldn't that mean since the code changes in the parent it would apply to the child itself? So, if the version number of code were changed in the parent it would get passed down to the child? If not, then what really is the purpose of a child theme? I thought you always wanted to leave the parent theme alone, and then modify the child theme so when you update the parent theme the code gets passed down to the child theme as well? Maybe I am misunderstanding it. Coming from Xenforo this is how it always worked. Does it not work this was with IPS?
