Will this also be available for self-hosted instances?

    Very useful! Thanks!
@Jordan Miller I feature a Question of the Week each Monday as an Announcement (pinned and highlighted).
So each week, I have to log in at 9am, unpin the previous Q and pin the new one.
Would it be possible to add a pin/unpin or highlight/cancel highlight on date xx/xx/xx time 00:00?
So that I can both write the post in advance and schedule the Announcement 🙂
Or am I missing something and it is already possible?

You can create a moderator that is a group and switch off everything except this permission. We felt it was better as a team tool than a user tool though.

I read that one. And to me it just says "available for all plans" (All cloud plans? Or "all" like with the self-hosted installations included?) and "in an upcoming release of our latest version 4.7" (which says nothing about cloud or self-hosted at all), thus my question.

True. Usually they say “platforms” when it is for everybody.

    Hi @Matt!
I enabled this feature, great job!
One question... In the first view, when I'm in a category listing all topic list, there's no a "Start new topic" button.  Is it because it's a category and not a forum? I think it should appear with this mode enabled and the button should let you choose between it's forums.

Does it respect the forum permissions? For example, while a category or forum may be accessed by everyone, maybe a subforum inside is restricted to some user groups?
In that case I suppose that people will only see topics they are allowed to see, correct?

And what happens with this block when you have many subforums? Does it get to a point when you have to expand it?
In you example you only have two subforums there:

But imagine having dozens or more like I do, will that block keep expanding downwards beyond a certain point, or after a fixed number you have to expand it to keep viewing? And is it optional to have it there at all? (I mean a widget you put there or not)

It would be interesting to see how this would work on a mobile device!
Everything always seems to be shown on a computer and never on a mobile phone when the majority of people will access most forums on a mobile these days

I am in love with the fluid view. What I dislike about it:
The button Start new topic on the front page wants me to select one from one. 😞 To encourage guests to submit I do allow only one forum for them to post topics/questions. Do not overwhelm the user with the large lists of categories, forums and sub-forums where they are not allowed to post in.

You speak of SEO to reduce clicks, what about user-friendly reduction of clicks? 😉
The second wish: to encourage registrations, I would like to see the topics from the forums set to Users without read permission can open forum? in the fluid list. This way I can promote a forum, where registered users only can read. The guests can see a topic teaser in fluid view. When they click on the topic, they see Custom No Permission Error. If they would like to read and participate, they have to register.
Currently, those forums are just not visible in the fluid view. 😞 Hence, the guests do not even know the forum exists.

Things can change, but looking at our 'things to blog' queue, there are 2 cloud only features (talked about here before) and 3 all platform features (two not talked about at all but one of them is a very popular request). We also have a fairly big thing in the pipeline that is all platform.

Does this only work for customers who host their services on IPS servers? And some of the new features too?
    alerts
    Real Time Who's Typing
    Real Time Who's Viewing
    Search will include images
    Sentiment analysis data collection
    Trending Content
The best content of the update so is for those who host with you? In my case I have my own server so I manage everything myself.
I looked to activate these features because it would help me a lot and I can't find one anywhere.

I had this doubt too, I decided to pay for IPS services to somehow contribute to the developers. I am extremely against nulled versions, but we know that these versions exist.
But the question is, am I going to pay for a service, and will I have updates until when? Being a client that manages its own server.
If the excuse is that customers (Auto Hosting) don't have the technical knowledge to treat their communities with new features, then I'm really using the wrong system.
I was really upset about it now, if all the updates that are released, we have this separation of resources it's practically wanting to force all clients to host with IPS which is strictly bad, I know very well how to manage a cPanel server alone I have several clients and I constantly support MySQL and other issues.
@IPS Did self-hosting clients continue to receive at least updates? or should we worry about that too.
Detail to have the most interesting features of the version I would have an estimated monthly expense of 800.00 BRL in my currency which would be extremely bad apart from all my other expenses with dedicated server services and everything else it is unfortunate to know that we will not having this resource.

I don't want to get into the main argument here, but I will call you out on this. The docs that you linked there are mostly general instructions for setting up a new self hosted server, not specific to Discourse. The only discourse-specific steps are:
Other than the initial bootstrap script being a CLI tool where you answer a few questions, rather than a browser-based form, this looks almost identical to the IPS setup process to me.

AWS, or any pay by usage services is not the smartest of choices for individual sites. It's fantastic if you need scalability but not when you're managing a few sites. I'll leave their analytics below so you can gauge for yourself what my "needs" are.
My monthly costs is exactly $69. That includes the server machine (OVH) and a cPanel license. One of these sites is a marketplace with thousands of files and thousands of daily active users. My machine's average load is 5% CPU and 40% memory. So to put it in perspective, even if you have a busy site, you don't need anything fancy. My page speeds are incredibly fast thanks to caching and MySQL optimizations. No RDS, ALB, LMNOP, etc.
So in the nicest way possible, I think he's spending that much because he has an overly complicated setup with diminishing returns. Though to be fair he could just have a disgusting amount of traffic and dynamic content to handle.
Full disclaimer, I don't know how these stats stack up to yours, or Randy's but I know for me personally switching to cloud is just not an option. I'd be paying quite literally 1,000% more. Not to mention you'd be at the mercy of IPS to keep your services online.

You can't really believe that. Complaining is what got us Zapier for self hosting and the return of 6 month renewals instead of 12 months, and a dismissible "upgrade to cloud button" just to name a few within the past couple months. 🙂

You are talking about Xenforo or Vbulletin?
We already have features in teh self hosted to use Redis and Elasticsearch if we want. I don't see any reason why we wounldn't also be able to use Node JS if we wanted to.
If im not mistaken, the realtime new features uses Node JS. IPS already submitted the code to the cloud platform, why not doing it also for the self host, and who wants to use, they simple install and configure Node JS. The ones that can't do that or don't want do that, well, they don't use the feature.
We already do that with Redis and Elasticsearch.

    Hi Matt,
usually you don't reply to my posts, I still write 😛
To put something like two new blocks of "trending content" in a $549 package - I'd be ashamed. Already $149 is a lot, but still somehow justifiable for ambitious projects. Developing AI image moderation and object tagging, that I understand as a challenge, but not two blocks of "trending content".
And what I also still don't understand: Technically your focus is still on the forum, the gallery hasn't had a major update in a very long time. Is the AI supposed to help moderate photos in forums, where they should be blowing up most threads? Or maybe something is still happening with the gallery?
    Greetings from Berlin

    Hi @Matt,
Can you comment on why trending content and similar content suggestions is only available for $549 / month and not on the Creator Pro plan or on a modular basis? And do you plan any changes of the price system here?
I am a generally satisfied cloud user so far and for many years, but it does not feel good to be excluded from such features.
    Thanks,
    Markus

Matt, i think I'm also not wrong if i say that not many community platforms are cutting down features from the self hosted clients.
I know your official stance is that there are no plans to shutdown the self hosted clients, but the reality is that it seems so.
There is no single reason to make trending content exclusive to the more expensive cloud plans, besides trying to force your clients to move to the cloud. That's the only reason.

Other than the 150+ bug fixes, let's run through new stuff that we've announced:
    [Cloud Only] Trending content
    [All platforms] Simpler Theme Editing
    [All platforms] Better inbox controls
[Cloud Only] Image scanner/moderation (no blog yet but discussed on the forums)
    [All platforms] Alert System
[Cloud Only] Realtime "live community" features (no blog yet but discussed on the forums)
    [All platforms] Improved Captcha
[Cloud Only] Sentiment analysis (no blog yet but discussed on the forums)
    [All platforms] Improved SEO
[All platforms] Data Layers (no blog yet, but discussed on the forums)

I cannot see how anyone can claim that we only build new features solely for the cloud platform. It just isn't true.
