Jim M reacted to Matt in New Live Community Features! We tried to pay our staff solely in high fives and compliments but it wasn't popular due to it not being a legal form of currency for rent and bills. Shame really, because it really lifted the vibe.

All plans as in ALL plans 😂
Self-hosted included. 😉

As one might say that’s what someone get for trying to have dessert before eating dinner. 🙂

Jim M reacted to opentype in How to inspire your community's members to engageThere is an underlying, more important question regarding the question whether social media promotion works:
Does guest traffic create conversions (i.e. registrations and active members) on the specific website? If yes, then creating more traffic (e.g. through social media posts) creates more conversions. If the answer is “no”, then all attempts to create more traffic are pointless. Wether it’s paid ads, social media posts, newsletters or whatever. The website must first deliver something that users would want to or even need to sign up for.

Jim M reacted to Randy Calvert in Twenty years of Invision Community@Matt it goes even further back for me as I still count the original Ikonboard days! It was the failed experiment that lead to the one that actually worked!
In terms of memories… there are too many for me to pick just one:
@Charles picking me up from the airport near Appomattox explaining how Virginia was not a state but a commonwealth. The panicked support tickets to reboot a server and @Lindy saving the day and talking me off the ledge when IPS still sold dedicated servers. Meeting you and learning about the migration from Perl to PHP. Working through the upgrade from IPB3 to IPB4 thinking the conversion would NEVER finish… and then when finally turning the board back online and members saying “oh wow!” -

Jim M reacted to Lindy in Proud to Present: An interview with Invision Community President Charles Warner1. It's an endless cat and mouse game between companies and thieves who try to self-rationalize their entitled behavior.
2. Because they're superior!
3. Most of them.

Jim M reacted to Davyc in Proud to Present: An interview with Invision Community President Charles WarnerGreat interview and fantastic to actually see a living breathing member of the Invision Community team that brings us what we have today and the memories we have of yesteryear.
In respect of the 'community' aspect I like to view a new community as a book with no pages and the community writes the chapters in their topics, article, images, posts and comments and so fills up the pages of the book to present everyone with something to be proud of.
I had no idea that Charles was part of LGBTQ+ community and props to both of you for just being who you are and just enjoying life.
Loved every moment of this and I hope we will see more interviews with other team members in the near future 🙂

Jim M got a reaction from Spanner in Make working from home work for youOnce a week, usually on a Friday, I go out to lunch and that is the "high point" in my week... plus attempt at being semi-social. Being a car geek too, I am out in my car for a drive and having fun so win-win even if the social attempt goes awry and I don't meet anyone for lunch .
