Are people still using this and is it worth to continue work or should we focus on a converter to move trophies and medals to the IPS4 Achievement System and release our own achievement enhancements which we already have in place?

That would be nice. If it can be done correctly. At the moment, I'm stuck on an old version due to how my site works.

No punishment at all! In fact, there is no "catch up" on annual renewals. If you let an annual renewal expire for example for 6 months, you can just pay the normal annual fee 6 months later.

There is only a catch up on the monthly because it's kind of like a finance plan for the annual. If that makes sense 🙂

    Perfect! Thank you Charles. 🥰

We’re not sure yet 😀 This is just rolling out to new purchases which is why we haven’t done any formal announcements for existing clients.

If you choose to change to the new pricing, it depends in you go with monthly or annual renewals. If annual is your choice and you don’t renew, you can pick up your annual renewal later. If monthly is your choice and you don’t renew, you can either switch to annual or catch up your missed monthly payments.

That's fair. And, and I see how that works for monthly payers. But, please don't punish us too harshly for gaps with yearly renewals. I have a couple of licences as you see and while these are hobby sites, I do try to renew when I can, but it's very dependent on the amount I make with advertisements.

More than anything else, I want to be able to set a share image for a topic should I want to. I don't want to just use the same default share photo for every single topic. If I share a topic on social media, I want a photo related to that specific topic to be the image in the card.

Have tried to get a hook/app for this for many years and nothing has worked

    Would this help?

    **Edit

Just seen; Update: Not needed anymore with Invision Community 4.7.11 or higher

Yeah I'm looking forward to seeing how you guys may re-organise these as there's a lot going on there now. Although I've gotten used to using them for different things (Pinned and Featured on a news database to feature in a home page highlights box, Featured on Forums to highlight user-contributed topics that we have turned into news stories, Promoted as a capture of all-site content - it would be good to be able to organise that/call results in IPS code by content type for this too).

Anyway, all this has made me wish death to all social media platform connectivity. Might just sunset the whole lot and ask users to straight-up register an account on my suite. No risk of anyone forgetting their credentials/emails then (he said... 🤣)

Been doing that for quite a while across all my communities.

Exactly the same, gave up a long time ago. It caused nothing but problems. At least with a local account, we and the user keeps full control.

  6. So, this feature is only available on the 'Creator Pro' (and up) cloud package? At $149/ month (around £118), which is a lot of money for some of us who have Hobby sites, especially if it costs £1416 a year! I get what's being offered, I just feel 'self-hosted' is being reduced to a bare minimum (eventually).

Of course you are completely correct.  I have a hard time figurine out what a third party thing is.  There are so many things that I have added to the site over the course of 10 years and many of them are things I would not want to loose.  Things like the Member Map are items I find to be a huge benefit to the site.  Could simple things like the Theme mess up the upgrade?  I love the chat rooms but I believe that may be a third party thing too.  I just would not know where to start.  Since my stroke I have a hard time with concentration and comprehension.  Everything is so much more of a challenge than before and I was pretty overwhelmed before.

Hopefully when the server people get the site restored and hopefully I can get into the site and make is so YOU can get into the site.  Then maybe WE, can figure this out.  I will have to ask a bunch of questions if you don't mind.

    All the best to you

    Jeff

    Jeff,

I fear that a lot of your addons will not be supported any more. For instance, Members Map doesn't exist, and it was (I believe) rewritten and called Community Map. However, @Martin A. did or does have an upgrade option to import all your old markers.

As for your other plugins/addons, you'll need to go through them and see if they're able to be upgraded and whether you need them. And yes, an old theme can cause problems. Ideally, you'd need to disable all addons/plugins and run the default theme and update the site that way, ensuring that ALL NEW FILES overwrite the old ones on the server.

I don't mean to be another just to jump in and confuse issues, but it's best that you restore your forum and keep it as is until you're 100% ready to upgrade.

    Hello,

My team has a user that has forgotten their password. They refuse to reset their password telling our support team they do not have an account. We have repeatedly told them they have an account and told them to use the forgot password feature to reset their password. We have forced them to reset their password in the member area but is their any way for us to force the system to send them a forgotten password email from within the ACP?

    Josh

Yes. Go to ACP, then go to the user's profile. Click edit password, and then use 'force user to change password'.
That will send a link to their email address and ask them to change the password the next time they log in.

We do not allow the transfer of licenses as per EULA unfortunately?

This has happened in the past, Marc. A dormant licence isn't going to earn you anything. But, someone willing to take it over and take up the payments should surely not be discouraged. If both parties share information with IPS, and account name/email are removed and then readded, then why wouldn't you accommodate that?

Our official stance on this is no, we won't transfer a license from one account to another - you can however, sell your license and give them access to your account.

If you have a request that falls somewhere between the two - send a ticket to account assistance explaining why you need to transfer the license and we'll say what we think it best for your situation.

At present, you may sell your entire account and the new owner can update the account details. To be honest, I'm considering a change in this policy as well. In the past few days alone, we've had three claims of "account hijacking" when it turns out they've sold the license and are simply trying to reclaim it. Most recently, someone claimed their account was stolen some time ago and after digging through files, logs and reports for 3 hours, it turned out the person had sold the license and was attempting to defraud both the new owner as well as IPS. The new customer provided paypal transaction screenshots, e-mails, the original password as provided to him by the original account holder, etc. As we do encounter legitimate cases every now and again, we have to investigate each one accordingly. It's very time consuming.

Questionable license transfers and scams literally take up several hours per week in administrative overhead. I'd love to say it's as simple (or could be made as such) as a domain transfer, but it's not. As such, it's quite likely that we'll prevent core account details (name) from being changed in the future and forbid transfers altogether. Unfortunately, it's a "few bad apples" scenario and one we're quite frankly tired of dealing with.

  10. Yes. Update.

3.4.5 is far too old I be running these days. Eventually when more and more server update their configs, you will find it difficult to even host the site. There are plenty of scripts to hack and gain access to the 3.x.x versions.

I doubt IPS will help as it’s EOL now. Though, they maybe able to shed some light on the error. I would think about renewing your licence…

  11. As above, the user doesn't own his content.

By law, a user must be able to unsubscribe from the community and you can also decide to delete all its contents.
IPB does not have this function ... how is that possible?
As an admin, I can delete the user and decide whether to delete all his messages as well.
As a first step an admin must delete the user without his posts and this he can do ... The problem is that the posts become all written by an unregistered user. If subsequently the user (no longer registered) wants the cancellation of all its contents, the admin on can do it.
This is a very serious shortcoming ...

    You can do this.

    1: Delete all posts
    2: Annoymise all posts
    3: Delete PMs/Messages
4: You can unsubscribe from emails, too.

GDPR only requires you to delete identifiable information.
