This issue was fixed in a recent patch.

SJ77 reacted to MMXII in [4.7.11] Downloads app: Respondig to reviews without downloading is not possible
I found an issue regarding author responses to reviews in the downloads app:
Create a downloads category where reviews are allowed, but only after a file actually has been downloaded. Upload a file in said category. Do NOT download it for yourself! (This is the usualy scenario, because the author of a file already has the file, so there will be not need to download it.) Log in as another user, download the file and leave a review. Now log in again as the file's author and try to respond to that review (again: WITHOUT downloading the file in the first place). Current behavior:
You are allowed to write an author's response. However when you try to submit the response, nothing happens (no error message and the response will not be added to the review).
    Expected behavior:
The author should always be able to respond to a review, no matter if he has downloaded the file or not.

This update fixed the problem on my forum where the TOS footer was being shown to guests even after they had accepted the TOS.
    Thank you!

Yes, this bug shouldn't have been pushed to production but we did have a forum to report and discuss and they did listen and patched quickly. So in the end, I am satisfied.

    Absolutely my opinion!
Luckily I'm a developer and was able to change the IPS code in a way that the login for the users was working again.
Without knowing the IPS code in parts I would have been lost last night.
I would never use an alpha or beta version on a productive website, but I should be able to rely on a stable version. The cookies are basic functionality and they should be tested well in all possible configurations.

For me, beta is beta and stable is stable.  Not every forum owner is a programmer.  So IPS developers should keep this in mind.

We shouldn’t have to worry about testing updates first, that’s why they have alpha, beta and release candidate versions. I can’t help but feel it’s more likely down to the ridiculous monthly update schedules, it’s a nightmare trying to keep up. It must also pressurise the whole system from security testing, QA, market place submissions.

When IPS releases a version, I expect it to be tested and to work like the previous one.
I am not a paying beta tester. 😉

@Stuart Silvester We understand that you are currently working on two versions 4.x and 5.x simultaneously, but please test the new release properly - before releasing it. Too many bugs and omissions for one release. 🙏 Have a nice weekend.

We have a lot of bugs in two latests updates, v4.7.10 and v4.7.11. How can we go back in a downgrade to older and stable versions until you can solve all issues? We have to offer excellent usability to our customers and this is not the way to do it.
    Thanks a lot.

I talked about treated updates on crucial areas with more care, e.g. I had same problem.. now when I update such areas I extend tests period and do not care about monthly schedule. My customers like it as I get nearly 0 negative feedback.

    HI IPS,
I personally do not like this type topics when my Customers post it, and to be honest I have a feeling  just I want to click DELETE button, however every time I see such I try to understand them.
I noticed that for last few updates you started creating many new issues while fixing other. If you will search forums you will notice that recent updates generated many problems where some were/are related to important areas.. e.g. payments (PayPal), login session.. and many many smaller ones.
If you are unsure of quality of specific update, maybe reconsider not pushing update just because you are at the end of your monthly schedule? maybe split updates into 2 smaller ones, to twice a month? as if you will create new issues, your customers must wait a month for next update (since you stopped pushing hotfix releases for a while already).
I honestly can understand you often do your best, check things million times, you are happy all is working where at the end some updates are total fail - I know it from autopsy, but if things start to happen for 1-2-3.. updates.. that means some procedure requires correction. Discuss it internally. Thanks.

SJ77 reacted to SeNioR- in How could the same user sign up for 4 accounts with the same username/ip?
Hi, @SJ77. It happened to me too 🙄 This is the case when someone has slow internet, or the website is slow, registration sometimes takes a few seconds. When you click the 'Register' button several times, several of the same accounts are created.

@SJ77 This plugin will NOT be updated. It's old hacky whatevers. I mean, it worked - right? But time marches on. People are still using it just fine though so if you have it carry on and so forth.
    However...
New thing submitted tonight if I feel it. IPS approval time runs about a week if there are not any problems (and Daniel and/or Stuart are not crushed with other work). Then you can give me some money.
Backblaze, Wasabi, DigitalOcean, iDrive. Vultr too (if you count tests ran six months ago - I don't wanna spin up another $5 to check again). All tested out.
Things are still derpy but more professionally so. Everything still piggybacks on the internal IPS S3 code. Oh, and Backblaze is solid (I bypass the S3 stuff and use the BB API directly for attachment downloads). And since those guys finally pushed out a status page (albeit a not-too-great one) you get this too:

Obviously a new support topic and so on but that will come post-release.

Just adding that does not add risk.  But the question becomes what you do with the data input by the user.

SJ77 reacted to Marc Stridgen in IS there a security risk to adding a custom button to your editor with "option" enabled
There isnt really a set of guidelines for that, as it could be anything someone is adding, so the guidelines could only be to write secure code. If you are unsure on that, it would be best to contact a developer on this, rather than adding yourself. Generally however, if you are adding things from a known vendor using their code, it will likely have been tested.

Prevent spam would be at the top of my list!  😉
I'm for anything that helps with this, whether it is AI or something else.   Just deleted 17 pages of spam all posted this morning.  I'm just doing admin approved registrations at the moment till I figure out a path out of this.

My only concern with this is would be anything AI driven (and the required services it depends on) may be cloud driven and then make this a cloud-only option for clients.  Self hosted also need a suitable solution.

Current offered spam service by IPS is not good enough imho. And timers has changed since thgev service was introduced.
How about attacking the spammers with IPS writing some clever AI anti-spam functionality and include in the packages?

How are you adding that? You should be adding a link to the page, rather than a direct link to the video location itself.
