Since you upgraded PHP as part of this, the first thing I would look at is to see if the PHP opcache extension is installed, enabled and has some memory set aside for it to use.   The kind of performance difference is exactly the type I see between turning opcache on and off.

Thank you for bringing this issue to our attention! I can confirm this should be further reviewed and I have logged an internal bug report for our development team to investigate and address as necessary, in a future maintenance release.

I have a license that I paid full price for a while back. I stopped renewing it because I never used it. I thought I was going to use it for something but it turns out I didn’t end up using the software for anything. I paid renewals for about a year or two but the software just say there not ever one time being used. It didn’t make sense for me to keep renewing it.

However, I like to think that if I ever figure out a use for this software, then I have already paid for it more than a few times over. It should be there for me to use and start paying renewals again.

I hate to think that I would have to pay full price for it all over again. 😣

Honestly I like this. I do appreciate the self hosted option and I think IPS deserves to be compensated for continuing to provide the classic version.

This provides a creative solution to an ongoing problem and allows a path forward for the self hosted version.

This should allow both classic and cloud versions to co-exist for years to come!

Kudos to whomever developed this solution! Thank you for not giving up on the self hosted version!!!

We did an analysis of all our customers to work out the average renewal cost and buying habits. We made sure that the renewal price point was as close to the average as possible (we actually went under).
We discussed the pricing at length and shared it with a handful of customers in a focus group to get thoughts and feedback, and tweaked accordingly.
We have been as fair as we possibly can throughout this process. Undoubtably some may need to pay a bit more to unlock all that new functionality, but most will pay a bit less. We've found a pricing model that ensures the self-hosting version is viable for years to come.
Invision Community v5 is the start of the next evolution for our community platform bringing in many features to help publish content, monetise the community and more. Just selling a forum app is a market in a serious decline.
But you do not have to do anything. You can stick with your v4 license for as long as you wish. This is not a choice you need to make now, or even this year. Wait until v5 is out and then decide what is right for you. If it's not right for you, then be assured that v4 will remain supported for years to come.

Actually, several clients were invited to a private feedback group and have been giving us feedback for the past several months on how best to re-approach Invision Community Classic. Our goal was to make self-hosting viable for the future.

To simplify the whole thing, I believe it boils down to this:

Old licenses can be renewed anytime. This allows people to lapse and only renew if there are new features or software fixes they want to grab. Then they can let it lapse again for a few years.

New licenses are a bit cheaper (for most) but require ongoing maintenance in the form of regular subscription fees. There is really no way to allow it to lapse as, one would be forced to catch up or buy the whole suite again at full price.

Thus: allowing IPS to continue to support "classic self hosted" licenses while also having a more dependable income stream from this offering similar to how cloud customers must pay on an ongoing basis. This allows a win win situation for those who really want / need IPS to continue offering self hosted options.

    IS that about accurate?

For me, since I have been regularly paying my license (since 2014 ?), I see pretty much only upside. Unless there is another catch I am missing.

Oh it's not that literal 🙂 it's about total time combined with total paid. If you lapse here and there it won't have any impact.

I've got a few spare licenses that are not in use at all - no domains attached, not actively licensed.
Any chance these can remain "parked" until I activate them for actual use and then the "keep up with renewals or else" stuff kicks in? I'd hate for these licenses I paid for to go extinct for lack of use (rather than in-use but lagging on renewals). If the current opt-in thing for the new way stays in place for all these oldies; then I think were good because I can just "opt-in" when they go active; but getting clarity here would be nice. I think this is/was clarified above... still gonna ask about this specific use (non-use) case.
Also, while we're here... some of these changes I wouldn't mind seeing applied to the Marketplace. I've got people renewing stuff for super cheap simply because the renewal price was cheap years and years ago but new renewal prices do not apply to them. Also, if staying current with renewals is the new model, having that for Marketplace purchases seems a fair option for us to apply to our stuff as well. Granted; probably some dev on your end, but I'm thinking both of these requests would be welcomed by most if not all the Marketplace participants. This would also allow us to adjust our pricing downwards if we knew we'd be getting a more steady stream of revenue.

I am a tad confused by this post. For someone like me that just wants to use the 'forums' portion and I currently pay $80 a year for self-hosted are you saying the price is going to increase per year now?

I have the Extras, Branding Removal $500. Will this extra be carried over to IPS v5 and the new licencing, or will I need to purchase it again in IPS v5?

@Matt, would you please consider enabling reactions in private messages, now that hooks are gone?
The argument used by someone else from IPS (don't remember who or where) that a member would not see where the reactions were given doesn't make sense as it already happens since forever: a member can't view the reactions you gave or received in private forums. 🙂
This also helps to reduce the number of emails sent just to show you "read" the messsage.
