How could the same user sign up for 4 accounts with the same username/ip?

Could this possibly be an issue of cloud versus self hosted? some difference therein? -
How could the same user sign up for 4 accounts with the same username/ip?

Just adding this here ^ as another example. This is a BUG I am nearly certain at this point. That button should not be allowed to fire off multiple account creation queries. There is logic to handle this sort of stuff and a sign up button should not be having this issue. It's actually a bigger deal for me because many of my users are customers and sometimes they end up in different accounts each time they log in, leaving them wondering where the content is that they previously paid for. It's scrambling my data base and upsetting people. -

I was able to reproduce on @RevengeFNF site I also have a test site that runs on an entirely different server with NO TRAFFIC of any kind. It's a server dedicated for my test site only. It's running 4.7.12 and no plugins and I was able to reproduce there. That's 3 completely separated environments where I can easily reproduce this. Did you use mobile? Can you take another look? -

YUP!! It was easy to recreate. There was no slow query, no delay or anything like that. It boils down to how fast you can click "create my account" Seems like a race condition issue, that button should not be kicking off multiple queries when clicked. I will see if I can do the same thing here on this site but of course, you will have to check for me to see if it happens here as I don't have ACP access. -

I am not sure. I am having a hard time isolating what the issue could be. It never happened on IPB 4.4, Then I updated to the newest version and that's the only time I have ever noticed this. Seems like perhaps it could be caused by hitting the submit button several times during the sign up process. Newest customer said this. I am testing to see if I can recreate this issue myself. -

For some reason it wouldn't let me screen shot all 3 so I tried again. But too late to edit the one above. Weird, I have a screen shot that shows 3 of these but no matter how I try I can only get the first 2 to show.. WTF I give up, my images are attaching weirdly but trust me there are 3 of these accounts all with the same IP address signed up at the same time. -

Honestly I like this. I do appreciate the self hosted option and I think IPS deserves to be compensated for continuing to provide the classic version. This provides a creative solution to an ongoing problem and allows a path forward for the self hosted version. This should allow both classic and cloud versions to co-exist for years to come! Kudos to whomever developed this solution! Thank you for not giving up on the self hosted version!!!

Sadly on the most recent renewal, I think I accidentally let it lapse 1 or 2 days by mistake. So I don't think I am getting 9 years of on time credit. Oh well, my mistake.
-
To simplify the whole thing, I believe it boils down to this: Old licenses can be renewed anytime. This allows people to lapse and only renew if there are new features or software fixes they want to grab. Then they can let it lapse again for a few years. New licenses are a bit cheaper (for most) but require ongoing maintenance in the form of regular subscription fees. There is really no way to allow it to lapse as, one would be forced to catch up or buy the whole suite again at full price. Thus: allowing IPS to continue to support "classic self hosted" licenses while also having a more dependable income stream from this offering similar to how cloud customers must pay on an ongoing basis. This allows a win win situation for those who really want / need IPS to continue offering self hosted options. IS that about accurate? For me, since I have been regularly paying my license (since 2014 ?), I see pretty much only upside. Unless there is another catch I am missing.

If I click this, will I be given a screen to show what the new terms are versus my current terms before I accept?

I have a license that I paid full price for a while back. I stopped renewing it because I never used it. I thought I was going to use it for something but it turns out I didn’t end up using the software for anything. I paid renewals for about a year or two but the software just say there not ever one time being used. It didn’t make sense for me to keep renewing it. However, I like to think that if I ever figure out a use for this software, then I have already paid for it more than a few times over. It should be there for me to use and start paying renewals again. I hate to think that I would have to pay full price for it all over again. 😣

HI, I have seen this several times. I want to finally report this. Steps to repeat Customer tries to purchase item from downloads app without first checking the the "terms & Conditions" acceptance box. They get asked to check the box and click the purchase button again (so they do) IPB ACP reports two stripe payments, Stripe portal only reports 1 but second is "uncaptured" Customer see's 2 holds on their credit card and is unaware that one will fall off and see's two charges in IPB orders screen. Naturally they are not happy See screen shots ACP Stripe

Withdrawals must be approved? Paypal only?
SJ77 posted a topic in Classic self-hosted technical help
If I uncheck this setting will it start auto approving my "manual" payouts or only the Paypal payouts? Reason I am asking is because Paypal has the API and will make the payout happen, but MANUAL is just that, "MANUAL". IE: I need to do something manually before approving the payout. So it would be useful for this to only effect Paypal. Can someone confirm is that's how it works? Thank you -
I know it was announced depreciated for v5 but will this be fixed in 4.x with update to Twitter API v2.0?

How could the same user sign up for 4 accounts with the same username/ip?
SJ77 replied to SJ77's topic in Technical Problems
yes, I agree, but don't worry. It's not a shared server and It's not in the command line, I just cut and paste this from google as an example. Was just trying to create an easy cleaned up statement so people can assume it's running and not ask those sorts of questions. (noticed I just added a bunch of faked up parameters). Main point is to show the options. But, yes, good catch. -

I do make regular database backups. Do you think this could be related? It's possible this happened during a backup. Here are the options I use in my command mysqldump -f -umyuser -pmypass --single-transaction --quick mydatabase | gzip > /home/myadmin/web/mysite.org/mysqlbackup.sql.gz -

The user has deleted the main account but the 3 clones (out of 4 accounts) remain in my database
