Something I always wanted, but doesn't sound like it will work as I'd prefer - it would help if this was an option during the moving topic process, make it an option to create an alert for the topic starter whilst on the pop up for that.

DSystem reacted to Adriano Faria in 4.5: Language System Updates
We (those who make/update translations) need a tool that can tell us which new language bits was added between versions so we can update our translations easily and faster.
The UNTRANSLATED filter isn't practical in this case because there are hundred of language bits that I (and a lot of people here) didn't translate (like countries, emoticons, etc) and they are there so it's a "false" positive in this case.

The "ancient forums" are still used to "exchange data" between users. You need Advanced forum readers software and... a community to know where to find what you're looking for... They're still usefull, but for a restrictet "knowing howoto" set of users...

The fact you can easely create a group in social networks or smartphone apps is more "user friendly" and give to users without technical knowledge the possibility to create their own "communities" in an easy, fast and - relatively - effective way.
As administrator that's the power of theese tools : they're easy to set and to use (as administrator). No need for hosting, no need to pay for it, no need to know PHP and what "user rights" mean... So, for most of the people, to choose between learn howto and just make it happen, the choice is not hard to do.

As user, all users say it : "I use social network groups when I need a fast answer, but I use the community when I want a long-term track of my question/content/...". In other terms : social network are strong in reactivity but forums are stronger in knownledge/content.
I've seen communities closed because they had no participation at all but everything goes on social network (for some of them even in the group they've created themselves "to be in social networks"). So it depends on what is the community purpose and how it is used. When you've only people "showing theirselves", everybody will go to social networks : it is made for. If the community has some kind of knowledge/content to share, people from social networks will go gather information from it to answer in their groups and may go back to the community when "nobody says"...

So, from my modest single oppinion, it does not depend on the word you use to say it, but on the content the community spread. There is a balance to find between social networks and communities/forums where everyone can get what they (and we) want for the good of each.
Personnally I still use "the f word", but also community or even "website", depending on the audience...

I commissioned a plugin to do all of this stuff, but it'll be nice to have it built into the system.

It's a first step, though I'd wish to see more important features like automatic unsubscription of bounce emails.
Bounce email handling would be really helpful, for those who don't use commercial email providers. The plugins in the marketplace can't handle them efficiently, either they are only made for paid providers or you have to manually add email addresses to a list (...my list contains more than 100.000 subscribers)

I second this. I'd love to see a method to handle the bounced email automatically, with a method of prompting the user to update their email (maybe before being able to post on the site any further).

For this to work the IPS will have to also create the Service Works.

Would love to see a feature added to detect bounced emails and stop sending emails to those users. After moving to Invision, a number of old users ended up generating thousands of bounce notifications when they (somehow) got subscribed to emails they didn't get on our old platform

DSystem reacted to ekforum in 4.4: Increase visitor registrations with Post Before Registering
Nice improvement. You could increase registrations even further if the username was prepopulated with a suggested username (perhaps based on part of their email)
This would allow the user to register if they can’t think of a username and they could always change it later.

😍 Thanks for the kind words.  Also, thank you to IPS for letting me be a guest blogger for one day.
I should have tried to join the IPS staff, they're handing out million dollar checks to staff members!!
On a serious note, I think there are always things to learn for community management, no matter your experience level or years of administration.  There's so much to learn, from socializing concepts and behavioral theory to actual implementation and execution -- and I'm hoping that IPS can become a knowledge community where we can learn, share, and rely on each other.

These improvements and tools are excellent and well considered, just what we needed, thank you.
I'd also urge some general caution and due diligence especially with any non-member requests for bulk personal data export, admins should put some procedures in place and make sure co-admins and staff are aware, to recognise a request and to reasonably check proof of identity before handing over bulk export data  to ex-members, banned or disgruntled ex-members who potentially have a grievance, or ex-members requesting deleting accounts.
It may be useful for current registered members to have a convenient option in their Account Settings to be able to request an export, so export could be performed automatically and recorded in the member history audit trail.
I'd also urge caution in transmitting that XML data to the requester especially by email, be sure to provide some security such as sending it in a passworded and/or encrypted zip file. Double, triple check you're sending it to the correct person, email address!

    @Matt On deletion of members:
Could there be an option to define the name to attribute to on that page directly? So we could input for example "Member 3312" (where 3312 would be their memberId). This will keep the discussion still somewhat reader friendly, so it would still be possible to differentiate different accounts as having written in the discussion, for readers reading old content.
Alternatively let the Anonymize attribution do a md5 hash on the (memberId+some community specific value that is unlikely to be changed) and grab the first 8 letters or something.

These are welcome improvements, thank you.
Not sure if that is the finished 4.3 style but why is the IPS default text font still so small? It's crying out for easier to read, updated typography like Bootstrap or Wordpress with better use of spacing and larger fonts.

Grid view is a nice step but I think the option to make it more dynamic to  resemble "Our Picks" would make content flow better and feel much more current.
Also the design of spotlighting only two top entries and then all other entries are static squares, seems a bit old style grid.
With Pinterest and other sites that have card styles perhaps 3 columns where the right most column (most current) gets the larger real-estate like http://mashable.com

The new Blogs landing page looks great!
Will there also be a new block being added that can be placed anywhere on the site in order to display blog articles like on the landing page (ideally with filters, e.g. just recommended articles)?

Although I'm a developer, I think the ideal is NOT to rely on 3rd-party solutions for everything. A couple of settings would make it useful. The way it is today, it's better to keep using @CodingJungle's resource
