I just don't see myself ever moving to cloud. I'm hosting multiple IPS sites on one dedicated box and the costs and customizability outweigh the price of any cloud packages for me. It would be triple if not more annually. I don't spend much time managing my server. I use cpanel/whm and pretty much set and forget, with the occasional updates. A lot of things are on autopilot. Now, if you are hosting others, custom packages, different software and such, then its more server management work. I'll also say that I don't run majorly busy sites with a need for massive architecture. Under 100K users each a month. If your dedicated server is only for you and you know what's on it and what you need, its not hard at all if you are using third party software like cpanel.
I've done a comparison and it costs me max $22-30 per site per month (depending on what apps) with server and IPS software updates. Yes, I am not taking into a consideration any more new sites where you have to pay the upfront software cost. I've long paid for that and will probably not add any more sites based on the direction with cloud features. Even upgrade fees used to be lower until they raised them to every six months. I was able to absorb that. I just would not be able to move to an $89 creator plan on each.  Even the beginner plan at $49 with forum only would not work for all my sites. In total, it would cost me $4-5K more per year in fees, which would come directly out of my earnings/profits. I see no reason for me to do that. I'd sooner move to another platform.
Now, if IPS comes out with some sort of discount per license that brings the prices way down and close to my current operating costs, I'd be willing to revisit. Just a little feedback 😉

Although if we're going to be making comparisons here, there is a distinction to be made between an unmanaged and managed VPS (with the latter the host takes care of almost all this for you).  Not to get too off topic, but there are things which, say, a VPS offers which Invision doesn't (and which the platform simply cannot at this point).  Not dissin', just sayin'.

What would be cool is if you could define a set of  Stock Replies could be restricted to the alerts.
As there are some that would only ever be used in more of a private setting.

You can already use stock replies for the content in the alert editor (and literally in any other editor instance too )

I have to agree with this. Just too expensive with no discounts for multiple cloud licenses. As a self hosted user with 8 licenses, I have not added a new IPS license in a while because of this direction or lack of any major price changes, only increases. It’s much more beneficial for me to run my own server for all my licenses. They all share resources on my platform. Doing the math, if self hosted goes away, I’ll be forced to leave and switch platforms. No question about it.

Why don't you use a pre-fix with the title like: [Cloud Only] New Live Community Features!

Nothing good is free. I can’t blame any company for needing to make money. If I wasn’t making money with my forums I wouldn’t be doing it myself. I only run sites to make some income, so I can understand the financial aspect.
However, I do think some of these features can be deployed quite well with self hosted environments. IPS is trying to differentiate to add to a value prop for cloud, which brings in more revenue. Unfortunately, It’ll weed out the smaller site owners over time.

It's not big ask - from AlexWebsites, Adriano and many others to clearly indicate in blog title - Cloud only feature.

Perhaps a good time to survey your self-hosted customers, asking what features they would like, what they would pay and so on.
I can understand that self-hosted licenses have dropped off, and that would be because of the rise in alternative solutions. Pricing could likely be set according to costs and expected demand. Offer early adopter pricing for those of who are committed to IPS long term? Just ideas. I would like to see actual discussion and a potential long term solution to what many of us fear is coming sooner or later.

I’m not sure how anyone is being “restricted”. Anything you’ve been able to do and use before continues to work as it has always been.
There are a handful of NEW features that only work in the cloud environment as the technology that makes those specific features work don’t work with out of the box LAMP installations.

Outside of these handful of features, a vast majority of every new features have been added over the last year have been available to everyone.

Again… anyone who says these features can be done with a standard installation, please do something about it. Make it and release it to the marketplace. Put your money where your mouth is and I’ll be the first person to buy it.  I’ve looked into doing this and it’s MUCH more complicated than you most likely ever would expect it to be.
