It would really be appreciated if IPS stopped the cloud hard-sell. Self-hosting is a requirement for many people. You should sell a value-added service (monthly) to cover things that are services as an optional add-on for self hosted users at a bare minimum.

Some of the features which are cloud only, such as live threads, should be simply given to self-hosted users with a "this only works if you can configure your server / use at your own risk" disclaimer. I will not be switching to cloud, and many customers feel this way. Please listen to us. You will lose customers if you keep on this path, I guarantee it. If there's much more strongarm tactics to force people onto cloud services, I will not be here long.
    Then please, ACTUALLY IMPLEMENT it.

I mean even 20 clients on business beats 500+ self host customers in terms of price. Which is why they're pushing cloud so they make more money providing the same service. They have 27,450 active clients (anyone who's renewed within the last 6 months) which is a increase of 194 from last year.
However, the last 4 months there's only been an increase of 22 active clients, about the same time they started pushing cloud exclusives. Don't think their methods are really paying off unless they're converting a bunch of people to cloud which may be the case since they're intentionally gating useful features behind cloud

Shame you don't allow us to do this for the advanced users to host a socket, i don't like how you guys are forcing clients to use Cloud solutions for good features like this.

Truly difficult to take this bit serious when in the blog post you mentioned that this feature is great for gaming communities. A group of people that wouldn't be in your business bracket. So a lot less tailoring and more guessing I presume?
Cloud exclusives are one thing, but also adding specific package features? This isn't going to work. I miss being excited seeing new features knowing it'll be for everyone, not having to sift through changelogs and blog posts to see if I even qualify.. It's pretty sad. I hope you realize this before it's too late.

Now just add real time views and typing to self hosting and I'll sign a NCA (Non-crying agreement) for an entire year.

You can't really believe that. Complaining is what got us Zapier for self hosting and the return of 6 month renewals instead of 12 months, and a dismissible "upgrade to cloud button" just to name a few within the past couple months. 🙂

I wouldn't call this an innovation, especially when it's gated to 5% of the community lol
This is yet another example of how detached IPS are to their customers. The fact that such a simple feature is excluded from self hosted licenses, but also gated in a $600 per month cloud plan? waaaaaaaAAAAT?

AWS, or any pay by usage services is not the smartest of choices for individual sites. It's fantastic if you need scalability but not when you're managing a few sites. I'll leave their analytics below so you can gauge for yourself what my "needs" are.
My monthly costs is exactly $69. That includes the server machine (OVH) and a cPanel license. One of these sites is a marketplace with thousands of files and thousands of daily active users. My machine's average load is 5% CPU and 40% memory. So to put it in perspective, even if you have a busy site, you don't need anything fancy. My page speeds are incredibly fast thanks to caching and MySQL optimizations. No RDS, ALB, LMNOP, etc.
So in the nicest way possible, I think he's spending that much because he has an overly complicated setup with diminishing returns. Though to be fair he could just have a disgusting amount of traffic and dynamic content to handle.
Full disclaimer, I don't know how these stats stack up to yours, or Randy's but I know for me personally switching to cloud is just not an option. I'd be paying quite literally 1,000% more. Not to mention you'd be at the mercy of IPS to keep your services online.
