SammyS reacted to Pavel Chernitsky in What's going on with the app?
So, the "communities" app has been out as a beta since september - that's more that 5 months now. But since it's launch there were no updates on it regarding when to expect it to be "stable", we've had a completely "game breaking" bug with it (screen turns white once you log in) and there has been no fix, ETA on a fix, or any communication on the matter since our ticket was closed with a resounding "It's a beta".
Having an app that can push notifications to members' mobile devices was one of the major reasons that made us choose to move our community to IPS instead of other platforms. And for quite a while it feels like we're being toyed with.
Can we get some answers, updates, ETAs, or any kind of information regarding that very central and meaningful part of the service you guys are charging good money for? Or are we just going to stay in this loop of you making promises, us spending money, and then endlessly waiting for an implementation that never comes?

Some years ago (2018) there was a lms app, coded by Adriano. There was almost no sales.

So, just to make sure I understand what you understand, you think a user who sees Page 1 and Page 115 doesn't intrinsically understand there will be a Page 2, Page 3, and Page 4 in between them?
More importantly, how does adding a Page 2, Page 3, and Page 4 help a user understand the magnitude of a long topic that is 115 pages versus 15 pages versus literally any page length of 5 or more?
In any case, other thoughts:
1. Everyone is a critic of the default theme.
2. The default theme is grossly inefficient in certain areas. On desktop, nobody cares. On mobile, we have to care.
3. I think the better question to be asking is: based on heat analysis map or navigation pathways, do users actually click on Pages 2, 3, and 4 in a 115 page topic? My gut instinct says no. I think the smartest approach would be to intelligently tie those pagination numbers to topic pages that are especially important, as per the Topic Summary.
4. There's this whole area of research and investigation that should be done on ultra long topics. How do we get users to be able to efficiently absorb the entirety of the topic? How do we create intelligent splits and divergences within the topic?

I agree. But the mobile view needs additional changes.
1. There is no need to display pagination, and buttons "2", "3" and "4" make no sense at all. Seriously, who will click these buttons and why? 🤦🏻♂️
2. The words "replies", "view" and "updated" take up a lot of space and don't fit on one line in many localizations. They should be replaced with icons so as not to interfere with viewing and to save space.

SammyS got a reaction from Joel R in IPB native Points System (IP.Subeconomies? IP.Points?)
I agree on this. In fact Im working on a new project: a community for investors and entrepreneurs and I wont require real names because these people wants privacy to relax and share experiences, ideas, problems, etc. Less privacy = less content. But I showed invision to some of my partners and they begged me to use only discord. They see forum UI as really old and over complicated.
There are priorities, as resources are scarse. I´d prefer invision fellas to expend their valuable time trying to improve UI, mobile UX rather than creating something already exists and will demand lot more of bugs fixes and support. My 2 cents : )

Ey Jordan, congrats for your new job : )
Yeah, I know medium, Im a subscriber and I love it!
But:
1.- I think they´re not a community per se
2.- As you said, they pay you if many others subscribers read your stuff. They pay quality, not quantity. No views, no money
Maybe for some communities that works, and I'm ok with that, of course. In general I believe that the fewer mechanisms and functions a community has, the better the user experience.
Many administrators instead of concentrating their energies on creating a community, spend their priceless time adding and configuring a lot of useless stuff thinking the more things the forum has the better. I disagree

You guys receives a lot of feedback from others admins.
People likes histories about success. I´d love to read, for example, how some guys used Clubs to create microcommunities... Thats kind of things are inspiring as well as informative

In the other hand, social media almost destroyed forums and they doesn´t use points. You dont build a community "paying" people for posting

You could write up about the lamentable help guides which are anything but helpful to those wanting to learn how things work in the IPS arsenal. For example, there are very few real-world examples of 'how to' - to further this look at custom fields, there is a brief look but no real examples of how you would put those custom fields to use in templates, in various locations and uses etc. Anyone wanting to learn would need to understand (or be experts) in PHP, HTML, etc when all they want is to add a custom field in a forum, or pages, or a blog.

As always, you're more than welcome to submit a support ticket on my site for assistance.
@SJ77 I would recommend submitting a ticket with access information so I can look at that, in all likely hood the provider you're using has been temporarily blacklisted with Gmail/Microsoft (this tends to happen fairly often with SendGrid when using their shared IPs).
The 4.5 version should be approved available sometime this week.

SammyS reacted to Morrigan in Support team issue! the support is missing here!
@IceCore
If the RSS has a manual size for the image loaded there is really no reasonable reason that IPS should be stripping this data. Something that could be done is maybe some magic CSS voodoo but I don't know what/where/anything about the feed itself.
Second, if the task IS a third party task (so it was made for a plugin etc) then you also STILL can't expect IPS to fix it. Anything that isn't core to IPS they cannot reasonably field. In this case it sounds like the task in question was installed to facilitate a third party application or plugin which means that the error is with that plugin/application.
Just because IPS offers developers the ability to implement tasks doesn't mean that they are responsible when the code fails from the third party application.

You will have some improvement in site loading speed if you use a preload font. Font awesome loads a file size of 75 kb and this creates a certain delay.
Try and paste the code below, into your global template, after close the footer tag (</footer>)
<link rel="preload" href="/applications/core/interface/font/fontawesome-webfont.woff2?v=4.7.0" as="font" type="font/woff2" crossorigin="anonymous">

I did update it to 4.5, just checked it and I did not mark it as 4.5 it's still sat on 4.4, I will only need to change the compatibility field to 4.5 but think it will need to be approved again, 2 minutes and it will get changed to 4.5
