SammyS reacted to nodle in New: Reactions
Who would have thought that the "Reactions" would get such a great reaction?

They show anywhere the 'guest teaser' does, which includes the comments sections of all of the other apps.

I would replace the "create an account" block for a set of buttons to "sign up with...". Thats would make the register process even easier and faster

You still have total control over who joins your community even if you enabled social media logins. Don't be afraid to experiment with new technology

SammyS reacted to PatrickRQ in Video: 4.2 So Far
I was looking for many improvements regarding sale of non-physical products and a way of managing auto-assigned groups.
I also was interested in improvements in packages parent/child system and charging options, e.g. price auto-adjustment of child package being assigned upon purchase to parent one with future expiry date. I made some more suggestions in the past but most was ignored and some refused.
For now I gave up on requesting anything regarding Commerce, I continue to use Nexus with IPB 3.4 until I will find new Commerce suite my needs. Currently I use widely modified Nexus, only thank to that I can survive somehow.

I think most commerce users have enough budget to pay for commerce plugins/extensions, but obviously we want to get quality applications there. I have already asked the management if it's possible to pay IPS for developing extensions in the commerce applications but I have never got a response.

Since you asked nicely, we will do more Gallery stuff in 4.2.

HUGE release, very complete, not just engagement as we all thought. 10/10

I feel that given all the other work already done, a page to detail users sharing devices (as described in my first comment) should be built into IP.Board, versus a third-party add-on.

The last bit about showing multiple users sharing the same device is very important to me as an admin. Very nice addition! If you can take this one step further and create a page that shows ALL devices with multiple users, that would be an extremely useful report. This allows you to more easily catch people creating multiple accounts, especially handy to help catch trolls who are trying to evade a ban.
Thank you!

SammyS reacted to Joel R in New: Recommended Replies
It's called Recommended Replies and not recommended posts or recommended topics, so IPS might have a good reason why they only highlight the replies.
With that said, I'm also curious how IPS will display multiple Recommended Replies at the top of every page. That seems, at least to me, like a waste of space to see the same replies over and over again.

It should be after the autor´s post, not before it

SammyS reacted to nodle in IPS Community Suite 4.2 Coming Soon
I think you guys are announcing/releasing this at a great time. With the upcoming release of Xenforo2 this will help keep current customers from switching sides as well. I think in the last couple of years IPB has got a great solid code foundation and now it's time to release all the fun stuff. Looking forward to it!

Sounds great!
Do not forget to add it as a filter in Acitivity Stream
Some additional ideas: Allow members to "Vote to recommend" and after X votes, the reply can be automatically recommended. I suppose @Kevin Carwile will make it available in the Rules app, but it would be nice to have it built in. The burden of selecting recommended posts shouldn't lie only on the shoulders of the moderators

SammyS reacted to Morgin in New: Two Factor Authentication
I have to voice disagreement. In the current atmosphere of online services, any hint of a data breach can be overwhelmingly crippling. Being able to "double lock the door" with accounts that have elevated access to the forums, even if its just mod tools (which can allow access to confidential conversations), is extremely helpful. 2FA is now a web standard for services that deal in any sort of personal information, which many of our communities do. This is a welcome addition, and the way it was implemented by IPS was extremely thoughtful in terms of the various use cases. When you say very few people need this, I'm not sure what group you are talking about. Any community of any significant size is going to be targeted at some point or another for vulnerabilities. It could be as simple as a mod who reused a password and account name from another company who got hacked and had usernames and passwords dumped who gets exploited. This helps protect against that, and I'm grateful for it being in IPS4.

SammyS reacted to KT Walrus in New: Security and Privacy
SMS 2FA is certainly better than just simple password authentication and most large sites offer this an option to its users. It certainly isn't the ultimate security feature, especially if you are the federal government, but I sign up for 2FA authentication for any site that has my credit card on file or has access to my bank accounts.
Besides, offering 2FA authentication to users gives the impression that the site is worried about security and privacy and is taking the usual measures to prevent unauthorized access to your account and personal information.
