We are going to pause our gallery with 39,000 images

That's actually a great idea, we have a ton of images now that have an arbitrary file name as the title, it looks ugly and as mentioned above, it's un searchable. I have reminded members to name their images appropriately, but not everyone gets the message, and some just flat out don't care.

  2. Good day folks. I create custom blocks for a lot of things, temp blocks for an event I'd like to highlite for a time period, blocks for advertisers that have limited times of showing and no longer usable, blocks that at one time seemed like a good idea, and now they aren't.

As I was going through my blocks and cleaning house, I found it very difficult to actually determine which one went where and if it was being used or not. It would be nice to have a small blurb in the custom block "Details" where the block is being used, or not used at all.

Perhaps something like "used on acme page" or "not active" or something of the sorts. Thanks for your consideration.

and one generic preview may not nessesarily work

It could be a feature that can be turned on or off in admin? The hover preview would grab the first image (if there is one) of the article or record and some intro text from the first paragraph?

I know ya all know wikipedia, if you hover over a link at their website you'll see a handsome preview popup, I really love those. Just a wish added to your long long long list of wishes from us all 🙂

  4. We already have previews on hover for our Forums. Can we extend that capability to hover article previews when an inline text link is provide for an article?

For example: I really love this helpful article on Spam Prevention, it is very helpful.

So, when you hover your cursor over "Spam Prevention" we'd have an article popup preview appear. Thanks for your consideration.

  5. I have a pet peeve, images uploaded to our gallery display their file name as the title. For example a member uploads their image and doesn't change the title image, so it then displays something like DSC2849.jpg instead of for example "Oak Cabinet".

I have rules displayed for image uploading in each gallery, but they are apparently ignored. Is there any way to auto enforce changing the title of an image uploaded to our galleries? Our community is gallery and image heavy, visual arts. It drives me crazy that folks are lazy and just use their default image file title. Any suggestions are greatly appreciated.

  6. Daniel started to help me in the customer support email, and he stated something about the promotions appears to not be local. But I knew I only promote local, so his comment lead me to one thing after another and I tried to promote without the local promote box text, I'd delete the text but keep the box, thinking I could just have the image and caption displayed without introductory text, but it would not go through.

So, I added text, just a few words, and the promotion went through, it displays.

I did not delete the local promotion box, I just deleted the text from the box, and that was enough for it not to schedule and promote. Don't know if that's a bug or not.

What time do you use in this setting?- Cache sidebar, header and footer blocks -???
Also - do you use cron? If yes - does it work correctly?
What makes an impression about your site is too heavy images...

Hey Adlago, sidebar is not cached, I don't use cron, my site is set to the default "Run tasks automatically".

Our community is heavy on images.

This morning issue still persists. Thanks for your input Adlago.

Hab you applied the latest patch?

Patch applied and no change Daniel.

Hab you applied the latest patch? The promotion works via background tasks and it’s possible that due to a bug the tasks stopped working. Applying the patch via the support page in your ACP will probably  resolve it.

Thank you Daniel, I'll give it a try, I guess I overlooked the patch.

  9. Any help or direction is appreciated, I cleared cache, disabled customizations, yet at least two items I promoted are not showing in the Our Picks block.

    Here are the two items:

    https://thepatriotwoodworker.com/forums/topic/39972-mwtca-january-2024-whats-it-project-193-2/

    https://thepatriotwoodworker.com/forums/topic/39974-mwtca-february-2024-whats-it-project-2-2024/

and here is where they are supposed to display right column down a bit:

    https://thepatriotwoodworker.com/

I promoted them early yesterday and they are not displaying, I know I promoted them because each topic is showing the button "Re-Promote". This happened in the past but it was due to the Twitter login and or share turned on for promotions, I don't have any of the social media shares turned on for promotions. Thanks again for any help 🙂

Have you used the requirements checker after switching to PHP 8.1? It's possible that some required modules are not enabled.

terabyte, I sure have not, but I will now, thanks for the lead.

Im not seeing your site in mid upgrade there. Did you manage to resolve this one, John?

Kind of sort of Marc, I switched back to php8.0 and everything worked fine, thus why you're not seeing my issue. But after reading terabyte's suggestion above, I'll give that a whirl and see if that'll fix my problem for going to php8.1.

You probably have some 3rd-party app/plugin outdated, that’s why it doesn’t work on 8.1.

I would disable all 3rd-party resources and enable PHP 8.1 just to make a test.

Adriano, a couple applications needed updating, so I did, and updated php to 8.1 and site became inaccessible. I renabled 8.0 and went back into admin and disabled all plugins and customization's and enabled 8.1 and site became inaccessible again.  I am not sure what to do at this point, for now 8.0 works fine, but eventually I am going to have to dig in and figure this out, thanks for the tip Adriano. 🙂

  12. So, here is what happened. At the server requirement check, I received the message at the bottom of the page that my php version 8.0 is supported but recommend php8.1 is preferred, paraphrasing of course.

So I went into my server and changed to php8.1 and the started the upgrade and it was stuck on the page as shown in screenshot above. I could not even access my admin.

So I changed back to php8.0 and I was able to access admin and start the upgrade over again and it completed, so changing to php8.1 seemed to be the issue.

  13. A minor suggestion, and a convenience.

When I "see edit history" in our forums, displayed is the history of the content, it would be valuable as a time saver if the edited text was highlighted for comparison within the versions of the post. At this point in time, it all looks the same between versions, I have to read the entire post versions which can be a lengthy read at times and try to discover what was edited.

    Thanks for the consideration

Having a host with hard limits on things such as number of files or processes running is usually the one's you should avoid.  Is this a shared hosting server or VPS? I'd look into a different host if I were you.

I'm moving in that direction. My current host is A2 Hosting, things were humming along just fine for the 7 years I've been with them, then all the sudden a few weeks ago it starts falling apart. It's a managed VPS.

I am talking with sales now at A2, and asking them if they can get to the bottom of all of this or move me to another server that's not plagued. A few more things are happening since I posted this topic, now I get 500 errors when trying to access my whm or cpanel, just weird things.

    Thanks!

You're nowhere near your limits in that screenshot. Is it possible that your site/server was hit by a DDOS attack? I'd check that with your hosting.

They stated earlier that I had a lot of traffic from robots but not a DDOS attack, I did ask about that. So I followed their instructions and opened an account with Cloudfare.  I followed the instructions below to disable auto creation of the robots.txt file and it made no difference.

    Quote

To avoid unwanted bot access, we recommend using Cloudflare and making use of the robots.txt file to manage the bot crawling on your website.
To learn more about on how to active cloudflare and disable the automatic creation of the robots.txt file, please check these article:

    https://www.a2hosting.com/kb/add-on-services/cloudflare/how-to-activate-cloudflare
    https://www.a2hosting.com/kb/developer-corner/disabling-automatic-creation-of-the-robots-txt-file/

I am at a loss as to what to do, this is all getting over my head, and with every question I have they direct me to a help article on A2hosting help center and I try their suggestions but there is no difference, I still keep hitting my limits.

  16. Good day folks, hoping to get a little guidance here.

I have been dealing with my server generating a 503 error for my community and when I check my server I have a message that my resource limits were exceeded in the last 24 hours.

This started happening suddenly about 3 weeks ago and I've been going back n forth with my hosting customer service and I have followed some suggestions they put forth to no avail. Here is the last thing they messaged me:

    Quote

cPanel is currently showing the following warnings :

You have reached the limits within the past 24 hours
CPU resources limit was reached for your site
You have reached the entry processes (the number of simultaneously running php and cgi scripts, as well as cron jobs and shell sessions) limit 3844 times
You have reached the processes number limit 23174 times

I have reset the resources on the account. This may help temporarily, until your applications cause resources to go up again. Your site scripting needs more resources than your hosting plan provides, which can cause your sites to load slower than normal and/or cause intermittent errors. You and your web developer will need to review the resource usage of your account and take steps to reduce the load your scripting is creating or upgrade to a plan with more resources.

I find it hard to believe that all the sudden my community software needs more resources, but? Any direction is greatly appreciated if you are able to.

    Thanks folks!

I am not sure if this helps, but here are my server stats:
