I tried to upgrade to 4.4.10 using 7.4 and couldn't do it. So I submitted a support ticket and was told to downgrade to PHP 7.3 because 7.4 wasn't supported for 4.4.10. It will be supported in 4.5, though.
So when upgrading your php version, keep that in mind.

Thanks Woodsman. But already getting confused with what would be installed on my own pc (nothing?) and what would be on the new host's space. Ideally I should try and get my working version of 3.4.8 onto a new host and have it up and running. Then try and get assistance to upgrade that to 4.x.x?
There isn't a way to install 4.x.x onto a new host and then do a conversion from my 3.4.8 installation, is there?
Don't even remember what script changes I did over the years, so hoping nothing complicates the upgrade.
That's aside from all the attachments which tend to drive upgrade scripts bonkers.
Phew...i can see why I have put this off every time I contemplate it.
And why I'd rather just pay an expert to do it. At this stage, the forum is too important worldwide to lose...lots of valuable info that cannot be found anywhere.

Ah, the plugin which started it all...
Hello all - it's been quite a while since I have been on here but I am finding my way back in to the wild now. I've had some issues with my eyes which has severely impacted my ability to do pretty much anything screen related but we've got this under control over the last few months and I've recently been given the OK to get back to my proper day job (I work in IT) as long as I take proper rests instead of ignoring what my head is telling me it needs.
Just want to update on what I've now got planned for this plugin - it's been so long since I've been able to look at it that I've kinda forgotten how it works, and where I was with the planned v2. As a result, I am going to do is convert it to an application and start from the ground up - get it working, build in a migration feature from the plugin to the application, and get it out to you guys to get back to having some dice to play with (my wife has recently started getting into this stuff, and it's interesting finally seeing how it all works in a live setting)
I don't believe it does, but I'll make sure to add it in to the application version once I get back in to it.

This won't make it past approval now. It has to be more than a simple wrapper or web view app.

We all view the world through our own filters and biases. Some communities are frustrated that we are not moving PWA forwards because their 90% Android user base could benefit.

Some people hate downloading apps and use the PWA option where available.

It's natural to see the world through your own eyes and assume we all think alike and all have the same experiences.

The reality is that we have tens of thousands of customers who have billions of combined members, so we get a good overview of all needs and wants.

I'm not against doing more with PWA in a future version, it's just that we do not think that Apple will invest much time in their PWA system anytime soon, so for a fully mobile experience the only logical choice is a native app so that is where we have put our development resources.

But of course, everything is reduced to a binary argument. You either do or do not. You are either on one team or the other. The nuances are lost.

Except the billions who use the apps for Facebook, Twitter, YouTube and so on—every single day. Those are all just “websites”.
I also don’t understand why you point out that it’s not “novel” anymore. Things aren’t used just because they are new. They are used because they remain to be useful. Does nobody care about cars anymore because they are so 19th century?

When Steve Jobs returned to Apple and saw them going down the old/wrong path....
the first thing he did was get rid of 95% of their product lineup.

My point being that IF lots of plugins etc... are inhibiting real progress..... guess what painful thing HAS to be done?
@breatheheavy  This doesn't have to be rocket science.... a PWA could handle most of these websites as just a framework.

The current push toward native apps 7+ years too late is just a distraction.
That would be like Intel deciding it's going to go into the spinning HDD business in 2020.

I think it's important to keep in mind how many third-party plugins IPB has. To implement them into an app is an insurmountable task.
I think when we consider an IPB app, instead of converting the web format into an app format, we should be thinking about a separate idea. What that is? I'm not sure yet. But if I IPB can create an app where a forum owner can leverage their community database into an app... that's where I think an IPB app would take off.
For instance, if Twitter didn't exist. IPB has an app where members of your community forum can upload a Tweet. Obviously it needs to be something not being done, but just used that as an example. Hope that makes sense.
Btw I run a real business using IPB only 😉

    I've said it many times.

Apple will never make PWA a first person citizen on its platform; this means complete with full service workers and notifications.

They do not want a mass App Store exodus. They want that 30% in-app payment slice.

    https://www.theverge.com/2020/6/18/21296180/apple-hey-email-app-basecamp-rejection-response-controversy-antitrust-regulation

We can definitely do more with our PWA implementation, but we decided the sensible approach was to create native apps.

Welcome to the topic, based on your  passion, it sounds like you have a lot of ideas. I’m sure other clients / IPS would be interested in hearing them as feature suggestions for IPS’ budding mobile app.

Reading everything word for word to this point, this author is "defining" the word "condescending" all by himself.
People have a right to ask! This board isn't free! The apps we buy arent free! We are paying customers who see the trend for what it is! And we don't want our continued investment to be for naught! If the author has a problem with that logic, then so be it. Enjoy your freedom of thought. But don't call people out for expressing a real want AND need in today's world.
And luckily, for this author, not everyone IS a programmer, or he would have to find a totally different trade to make money from. So let's lay off the 'jerk' tonic and let people ASK for what they are willing to pay for in peace!

    Some thoughts:
    1. If MediaWiki includes an oAuth 2 integration (and you'll have to check although other users have investigated), you will be able to connect it to Invision Community by setting up a new login method.  This is better if you're needing the full functionality and complexity of a full wiki.
    2. If you'd like to control and offer  a seamless experience completely within Invision, then yes you can enable wiki editing on a Pages database.  Keep in mind that the wiki editing is very basic, so you sacrifice the power of MediaWiki for the unified experience if your suite.

You're welcome to submit a ticket if you think there's a platform performance issue that's causing problems for you.
However, I would also recommend seeing if you can reproduce the issue without any 3rd party themes, plugins or applications to rule those out as causing the issue.
I did take a brief look at your site, which was loading fairly quickly (and complete) as a guest, your custom theme was adding more overhead with the effects. One thing that you can implement quickly to improve performance is a cache policy for your static files (such as images, javascript, css). This is something that is controlled at the server level, you can (if you're using Apache) use a .htaccess file with mod_expires rules to control this. There's a good example of relevant rules here: https://invisioncommunity.com/forums/topic/449164-how-to-speed-up-ipb-sites/?do=findComment&comment=2766078
However, since this is moving more from 'feedback' to technical support, I would recommend either submitting a ticket if there's a reproducable issue we can look at otherwise you may want to post in the peer-to-peer section of our community and other members (@adlago!) can give you some tips

The mobile version can become very fast if IPS changes the concept of CSS rules.
If CSS basic rules are created for mobile version, the responsive design  only contains changes to the desktop, for example ...
.ipsRule {....} @media screen and (min-width:768px) {.ipsRule {...}} @media screen and (min-width:980px) {.ipsRule {...}} @media screen and (min-width:1280px) {.ipsRule {...}} @media screen and (min-width:1440px) {.ipsRule {...}} etc using a media query with only min-width will shorten the volume of CSS and improve the performance of browsers while processing CSS rules.
But, in this version 4.5, I think this will not be done.

Do we know when 4.4.5 will be released? I've been tracking many comments by IPB staff that mention upgrades to improve mobile page speed. At least for me, my mobile performance is abismal compared to desktop. Too many uneeded JavaScript and stylesheets being loaded. Also just a DOM heavy pageload. Small things like the notification sound Js/audio loading when it doesn't need to.

I think the ignore feature needs a few more features to be useful.  Right now it really serves no purpose other than to make members angry/upset when they try to use it and find out it doesn't really serve a purpose.  Most sites give you the ability to actually block someone, preventing them from seeing your content or your account.  My members have been begging me for improvements to this feature or to implement a true blocking system, but it's odd to me that previous people who have requested this are never responded to, or are basically told just use the ignore feature as is and act like an adult about it.
The internet if filled with millions of people of all ages, and just because someone is an adult doesn't mean they'll act like one.  I don't think it's unreasonable to provide a little more in terms of someone feeling more secure about their privacy.
User A ignores User B, so all applicable content by User B is now hidden to User A, and User B is unable to send private messages to User A.  However, User B doesn't know they are being ignored by User A and has no restrictions given to them.  The ignore system works basically as if User A is the one being blocked from User B's content which seems backwards.  User B should be aware they are blocked and have the consequence of User A basically not existing to them in any capacity.
My members are requesting these common blocking features:
A blocked/ignored user cannot see the content of the blocker. A blocked/ignored user cannot view the account profile of the blocker. A blocked/ignored user cannot tag/mention the blocker in any content. If there is a plugin or app that already implements these improvements, please direct me to it.  If not, I can assure anyone who creates one will receive immediate downloads/sales.
