In 4.6, we’ve completely revamped our Ranks system to communicate with Achievements.

Achievements’ Ranks system will replace our previous Ranks system*"

Can we keep the existing Ranks system?

The old Ranks system has been removed but you can emulate the same sort of thing with Achievements.

I feel like staff notes (without having to issue a warning/member note) would be more useful to have on profiles. So I hope that's possible too.

Using the Member Note in the Warning system without assigning any points or actions is really the same thing. In that case it's just a note.

Not sure what is considered a task, but you're only allowed 100 a month for free.  It gets pretty expensive after that.

It's not as bad as it seems. You're only charged if Zapier does something for you. Example that we use:

We use Github internally for software development. If something is being added to the software that any of our staff thinks will need extra testing in beta, they add a special beta-test label in Github.

Every single action we do to Github is sent to Zapier for processing. We have rules in the Zapier Zaps that look for our beta-test label. Only if it's seen does an action happen.

So in this case, Zapier might analyze 100 things we do in Github a day but may only take action on one of them (one we labeled beta-test). It's that one we get charged for.

Also, the amount of really cool things you can do with Zapier makes it worth it. I'm not a programmer and I have really cool workflows in place that help bridge all the services we use at IPS to interconnect with our internal site (running Invision Community) so we all know what's going on.

I'm receiving an error when trying to donate after upgrading to Beta. No changes were made other than the upgrade:

    Sorry, there is a problem

There are no available payment methods. This can happen if, for example, you have two products that are set to only be able to be paid for by two different payment methods and you try to purchase them together. Or, if you restrict payment methods to only be available to certain countries and there are no payment methods available for this billing address.

    Error code: 4X196/3

Please contact support. We support our betas 🙂

I've been catching up on all the 4.4 updates and I'm intrigued by some of the new changes coming, however, I did have a question about 4.4 in general.  The first update stated it was set to release by the end of 2018, but I haven't seen mention of it in the others.  Is it still on track or will we see it pushed to 2019?

We won’t quite make it this year but will have a public alpha and/or it installed here on our site in the next few days.

    Hi @Matt

Luckily this isn't subjective, the ICO clearly state the definition of what personal data is.

To meet GDPR requirements we need an automated way for a user to download all the data they've entered in to IPB.

Are IPB working on building this functionality?

Is the part of GDPR regarding removal of content the same as the recent ruling of the right to be forgotten?

We have been told repeatedly by clients in the EU with very large legal teams that GDPR does not apply to content posted. These clients do more than just link to ICO and quote text, they pay large sums of money to investigate these issues and they are unanimous that once a user posts content to the community that content is then owned by the community. Much like when someone sends you an email: that email is no longer their property.

Of course you are free to interpret things as you wish but we are going off the very best advice possible and do not intend to muddy the waters between "personal information" and general content.

I have a question about the access we provide to IPS support when troubleshooting is needed. Technically, the support has access to the database and to the personal information (emails at least) of all members. Are you planning to include an explicit clause in the relations between us (the customers) and you (the provider of the software) that when the IPS staff access ACP in our communities they don't have permissions to copy or export any kind of data?

We have been doing this for over 16 years and I don't think anyone has ever asked me that ?  ... of course our staff never download your data while we are helping you with a support request. That's not a GDPR thing at all that's a case of simple ownership: it's not our data why would we download it?

My lawyer told me you do need at least a direct link to the privacy policy under the form.

Obviously I would not tell you to go against your lawyer's advice but I would note the contact us link in the footer is like 5 pixels to the right of the privacy policy link so you know... ?

As I said, the contact us form is basically a "send me an email" form so I do not personally see any GDPR impact anymore than someone just emailing you would have.

Sorry, could you also clarify what would be considered a soft opt-in?

For the first 2 years of my forum running I had opt-in set by default.  Would be nice if I could include these in my bulk mail if that is considered soft opt-in

On older versions the opt-in box was prechecked so you can consider that "soft" since it was shown to them before signing up. You do not need to reconfirm permission in that case and you are good to continue to email them. On newer versions of Invision Community that box is not prechecked.

  10. 1 minute ago, Steve Bullman said:

Ok.  How I interpreted Matts original sentence was that saving a change to the privacy policy would change the users opt in setting.  But its more a case of I should email them following the change and give them the option?

Ah ok I see where that could be confusing. What Matt was referring to was a nice feature where, if you change some of your policy or terms text, you can optionally make a user re-read that text and click "agree" the next time they visit your site. It doesn't impact the opt-in statuses of things like bulk email, follow notifications, and such.

  11. 10 minutes ago, Steve Bullman said:

So as soon as I edit the terms and conditions I will no longer be able to send bulk mail to members who have previously opted in?

Not really. They would have still opted-in already even if you change your terms and conditions. Now of course if you were to do something really strange to your terms then maybe that's different but that would be an abnormal thing to do.

In the end, GDPR is about being a responsible steward of user data. In this case, your user DID opt-in to receiving emails so sending them emails is well within a reasonable scope. You would not be spamming them or breaking and "rules" because they still had to manually and purposely check a box to say "Yes, I want emails from this site." so you're good.

My biggest fears, regarding the GDPR and Privacy Policies of the global internet is about to loose access to any country members. I use community for the World and cherish any members from any country. Can i copy IPS terms and PPolicy to my site with few edit, will it be enought to protect from the gov ban?

We cannot really give legal advice and such. You would need to do your own research. We provide the best tools we can based on the knowledge we have.

PLEASE fix Search as promised. I have members now mobilized to upload thousands of PDF files to our Downloads section. But, if we can't search and find them by the short model numbers of the equipment involved (B-210, 3314, etc.) then they are of limited value.

Finish up the new social promotion by allowing us to Promote to a FB Group instead of just a FB page. Finally, make the FB Share reliably pull an image from the body of a Topic being shared. It works fine in some parts of the suite, but not in the forums.

We have been working on that: https://invisioncommunity.com/search/?&q=B-210
