  1. This was an old topic from when we were running ipsbeyond.com. Most of the links are outdated. Try looking through these http://community.invisionpower.com/resources/official.html?category=38 http://community.invisionpower.com/resources/articles.html?category=12
  2. It is, you are correct here. If the results don't show up when you first load the page, try a refresh - perhaps your "last visit" time isn't set the first time the page loads?
  3. The only similar rules we have here is that we ask members not to promote competing web hosting services. You can naturally link to other sites and resources. :) I assume you are talking about http://webhostingtalk.com

    IPB vs. vBulletin

You can also set the default view mode in the ACP Settings for guests/new users.
  5. I can't see how this is relevant to the conversation. You already can upload images, type in text, click "post". The suggestion in this topic has to do with administrator controls over the dimensions of the image. @Rikki, they're not talking about the javascript resize, they're talking about the actual uploaded attachments resize.
  6. Unreal portal indeed has resource issues. :) That block (I believe it's that block) is the primary reason. It does a group by against the posts table on what is effectively the "index" page of the site, thus the page most commonly hit.
  7. I'm not following. You can already set the attachment thumbnail dimensions in the ACP settings. Uploaded images will be downsized appropriately. Example:
  8. Hmm. I can see your point, but I don't necessarily agree. Consider this - I'm using a forum with this option as a "ticket system", where naturally I don't want anyone (but admins/mods) to see all topics. I might want to pin a topic ("ticket") to set it as priority, or to remind myself to address it the next time I visit. I wouldn't be able to do that if we implemented what you are suggesting. I think announcements are generally sufficient for this purpose.
  9. We don't police the internet. I think that's the most important thing. If we were issued a court order by a judge with authority to do so to shut down a site we had control over, then naturally we'd be obliged to do so. If you run IPB in your own country and abide by your own local laws, then (notwithstanding the question of where your server is physically located) there's little authority for the US to do anything to you, or even care. Ultimately, if this is a big issue for you, your best option is to inquire with a properly registered legal authority (i.e. an attorney here in the US) as to what your options and restrictions are.
  10. Or you guys could just submit a ticket and let us do it all for you. :)
  11. No, our software does not callback or do anything like that. The ACP has some callbacks to our server to get news/blog posts, but it's not designed for piracy tracking. We don't feel it's worth the trouble to inconvenience legit users for the small portion of users who feel it's ok to pirate the software. :) Generally speaking, of course.
  12. IPB also supports question and answer field on the registration form, which should help stop most automated registrations. It would not stop users from manually registering, and then posting spam (either manually, or through a program with a supplied valid username/password). You can also set new users to go to one group, whose posts are moderated until x posts (i.e. 5) are reached, and then auto promote members of that group to your normal members group. If you need help with that, feel free to submit a ticket.
  13. But just like you, most admins don't want to automatically flag a user with @gmail.com address as a spammer. I'd venture to say the majority of site owners have level 4 automatically ban the user, or block their registration. Thus, we'd be banning every gmail user just because some spammers use gmail? For the record, I use gmail, so I'd never be able to register at any IPB if we did that. We will ban a gmail address (specific address) once it has been reported enough times. Make sure you flag these gmail spammers as spam users in your site to notify us. The database learns over time, but I can say I don't think auto-flagging gmail addresses as spam is a good solution.
  14. I do too. It sounds challenging, but overall beneficial to community management in general.
  15. I answered your topic here:

    IPB vs. vBulletin

You can do virtually anything with IPB, with the right amount of knowledge/assistance. For instance, if your banner rotation script is just a php script, you can easily do includes in our template system. {parse include="/home/site/public_html/myphpscript.php"} That will include myphpscript.php and put it's output where you insert that tag into the skin template. Dropdown menus - you can do that too with a little custom skin work. Look at our member dropdown at the top of the page - can easily replicate that to other areas.
  17. Don't use the software to do anything illegal. That's about the extent of our restrictions.
  18. IP.Content 1.1.0 Beta 3 has been made available through the client area for users with an active IP.Content license. It has been posted under the "Development Releases" category. Please note that IP.Content 1.1.0 Beta 3 remains unsupported. If you are not comfortable using beta software on your site, we recommend you wait for the final release of IP.Content 1.1.0. Please see our blog entry regarding Beta 2 for more information regarding IP.Content 1.1.0.
  19. You will need to post in the appropriate peer to peer support forums for this sort of inquiry, I'm afraid. To gain access to the peer to peer forum you must have an active support contract with us. If you have any questions I recommend you contact our accounts assistance department for help.
  20. I've always found this sort of mod pretty neat on a personal level, but impractical for the majority of our customers, and not likely something we'd include in the base release. Just my opinion.
  21. Do you need technical support? You can obtain support via the client area, or you can try to obtain peer-to-peer support at IPS Resources. Did you find a bug in IP.Board? If you believe you've found a bug please post it to the bug tracker.
  22. That's not true. You can use Cyrillic usernames and search them in the ACP just fine. If you are having trouble with this on your site, you should submit a ticket so we can check into why you are having trouble.
  23. Yes, I remember situations where people would just happen to find the last support notification response email they received and reply to it with a new issue (probably easier than simply creating a new email). The end result is unrelated new issues tacked onto the end of old resolved tickets.
  24. Yes. :)
