Oh gawd   its all so so confusing isn't it?
GDPR... don't collect data unless they opt in and make it so they can then ask you to delete all trace of them... and EU Vat law on sales says collect at least two pieces of information that says who they are  and keep the records for 10 years.

With javascript, we can detect if the user's browser supports the video file that was uploaded. If it does, we show it as a playable video instead of just as a downloadable file.
In short, this is a "progressive enhancement". The backend functionality has not changed at all - users go to a topic and can upload a video (if permitted), just like they can now in 4.2 and below. The only difference is, when a user comes along and sees the post later, if their browser is capable of natively playing that video format then it will. Otherwise they will continue to see a download link like they would now.

Anything served over the internet is inherently downloaded to the user.
The download button could be hidden, but a user could just view the page source to get the video's URL in order to download it.

Is there really any reason people still need to be shown the file name prominently with extension and everything?
It's really the only part of the lightbox I dislike. Mostly due to the fact people tend not to cleanly name photos in the galleries I visit, so it's just a long string of stuff (usually generated off facebook or some other tool which seemingly auto generates a name). I don't see a problem in showing it somewhere, but it just gets so much (and in my humble but totally subjective opinion, over weighted) prominence in that top left position. From a UX/UI perspective, I actually don't think file names have much relevance at all now that you've got drag and drop working for image ordering - there is very little (if any) additional info conveyed by the file name.
I'd prefer (speaking as a consumer of galleries) that the caption stay blank unless a user completes it vs filling it with the filename.

Let's say I record myself playing a song on the guitar and upload it.  The only option for users is to download it to the computer.  Would be nice if it could just play in the browser.

    1.  Wine makes everything better, so pour yourself another glass.
    2.  You can allow club content (eg. club topics) to appear in the primary application (eg. forum), so your empty-ish site won't be as empty.

Well 12 pages of reading about clubs wasn't bad for an hour LOL.. I've got a rather empty (ish) forum anyway so maybe I'd just have some empty clubs hmmm...
OR maybe I could ask a couple of people to come along and do all the self promoting they wanted in a club... ie add all their Youtube vids as club content?  Then again they probably wouldn't want all the extra work when they are already running a FB group or page and they might think why bother moderating another club ( on an empty (ISH) site) ?
Poor me eh?  How can I win?  Need to get my thinking cap on. At least I can say I'll promote all your club posts out onto social networks cant I?  They haven't got that much to lose I guess have they?  My site/and the club gets some content added and who knows millions of people might come over???
What came first the chicken or the egg? Build site up first then add clubs or add some clubs and THEY WILL COME!!!
Such are the dilemmas of life eh?
    Glass of wine needed...

I had that same question... They may just have to ask you to turn it off temporarily if support needs to log into your site, or enable security questions for the IPS account and just give them the answer(s) to the questions.

I'm having nothing but issues since this release, I do hate to moan but there's more noticeable bugs for me. The discover pages are broken, articles don't seem to appear in them for certain members (including other admins).
You can't define your 'unread' items because refreshing seems broken and on occasions you get errors.
When reading a topic or PM and someone replies, it doesn't automatically update when you click to on the notification - it refreshes. This happens on this site - sometimes manually refreshing works fine, other times you get an error that states the content cannot be found. It's very frustrating, I realise you guys will be doing your best but there's always issues and they tend to be the ones which breaks important areas.
I struggle enough to get people to post due to my niche topic and the fact its a depressing area but the errors of this version is really making people moan.

    Looks great!

because it uses flash to play - is there an option for non-flash (ipad / iPhone) playback?
