  1. The awards/badges are really a cool feature. Unfortunately by default they are only displayed on the user's profile page and on the popup (username mouseover).

I'd love to see options to make awards/badges more visible throughout the Invision Community Suite. Why not show them in the forum postbit? Or even as little icons behind a username in various other places (blog articles, pages articles, comments in blog/pages/galery... entries etc.)? Maybe not all awards/badges at once, as this could make it very crowded, but with an option in the ACP per award/badge that allowes displaying them.

It is a bit sad that although a user might have earned quite a few awards/badges, they are never really shown to other users.

  2. As of now we are able to future-publish newly created topics in the forums app. This feature is relatively new – and it is super useful! I'd love to see this option being added everywhere else within the Invision Community Suite, which includes for example forum answers, download entries, comments (in blogs, downloads, galery entries...), status updates etc.

There are many situations where you want to pre-write some content and auto-publish it later (writing news, starting a raffle or simply do the writing now when you have time and publish it later).

  3. I am using the ticket system of the commerce app. In case I am not overlooking something, a member who has created a ticket does not receive any notification about an answer to his ticket in the front-end. At least I cannot find such an option in the notification settings. I'd love to see settings for tickets there, similar to the other notification options (email and/or notifications when a ticket receives an answer).

  4. Here is another feature suggestion: Right now we have the ability to set up a waiting time before a user can download a file (group permission for downloads). If done so, the user sees a simple message, which informs him about the remaining waiting time.

I think this is a missed oppotunity. Why not use this dialog to display all kinds of stuff to the user while he is wainting? I'd love to add custom text, images (even multiple and/or randomly changing images) etc. to that dialog, so there is a little more value to the waiting time.

  5. I never really understood why one would display 0 replies at all. This goes for any places, even in the forum lists. Why display anything, if nothing is there yet? I doubt that a "0" will motivate anybody to be the first one interacting. I think the look would be much cleaner, if any text that informs about "0 anything" was hidden and then it starts with the number 1, if a first reply/view/vote/download/whatever has happened.

  6. I just add my opinion here that I'd also like to see the ability to schedule any content that is created within the Invision Community Suite - posts, files, articles, everything. This would be a huge improvement, because it allowes to create content earlier and then make it public to everyone when desired.

FINALLY this is coming to IPS! 👍👍 This is a huge plus for everyone running anything close to a support forum.

    3 ideas/suggestions:

    • Clicking on the indicator should take one to the first staff post.
    • Within a topic there should be an option to jump from staff post to staff post.
    • Within a topic there should be a filter: Show staff posts only

It's not something we can click our fingers and bring to life, but it is in our minds.

Of couse creating a next-level Pages app requires lots of work... - and thinking, because if it is not done right, I doubt it will have a chance on a market that is heavily influenced by said page builders more and more people get used to. I am glad though that you have this on your minds and I am very curious what you will come up with in the (hopefully 🙂) somewhat near future.

One of the most powerful page layout generators I have come across is a WordPress plugin called the Divi Builder (made by www.elgantthemes.com) - it is one hell of a powerful tool that allows you to develop complex pages using adaptable rows and columns.

There are quite a few very, very powerful page builders out there, which do a great job at giving you easy-to-use tools to create awesome-looking and super-customizable (!) pages without any coding knowledge. Wordpress has these, Joomla has these, Drupal (to some extend) has these... just to name some big, free CMS.

Personally I think this is the future. There will always be tech-savy people who know how to create templates, use html, css, js, php and whatnot... and of course a community software should offer everything that allowes for maximum customization by anyone who is able to do so. But the vast majority has (very?) little knowledge regarding the technical background, and honestly, they just do not care. They want to focus on both creating and displaying content. For that they need tools... easy to use, with a maximum of flexibility. In the upcoming years, I think a complete community software has to offer more than "just" forums, galleries etc. They will always be needed and there will always be room for those, but around all that it needs a powerful CMS.

  10. Great suggestions among your list! This one I like in particular: I can see so many ways to use this, no only regarding sensitive content, but also including "shadow banning".

    10. Setup permissions for members group that way, so the members of "one group" could see each other content, but other groups can't see "one group" content. Like parallel world in the same community. + Hide "one group" content from search engines.
Within the framework of freedom of speech, that is a good feature to hide and allow sensitive content.

expanding on Pages in the future

Yes, please! For IPS5, please add a ton of easy-to-use functionality so that we can build great looking pages with much coding-knowledge. Layouts, containers, boxes, everything with WYSIWYG, permission-based displaying... you can basically go through the whole Wordpress/Joomla/Drupal catalog. There is so much room for a true Pages app!

  12. Let me start by saying thank you @Davyc for looking into this! I have to say, I am shocked that all this above (obviously) has to be done just to change such a simple thing like an image. IPS has much to improve regarding their CMS, if they actually want to compete with others in this area. Probably the current way it is provides maximum flexibility for anybody being experienced with coding, but this feels like late 90s/early 2000s... Today there ARE ways to provide both maximum flexibility for those who want/need it and easy-to-use software for those who do not -- and still allow them to create awesome-looking pages.

    Now, regarding your suggested changes:

Login to your ACP and go to the Pages templates (not the theme templates).

Locate the template named 'Entry' it's usually the first one already opened, but check.

In my case nothing is preselected. The only place where I found 'entry' is under html > database templates > Category Articles. I assume this is the correct one?

Now I changed the code from:

    1.thumb.png.ac649fca4164c0254220cd9d11aedc44.png

    to:

    2.thumb.png.8deec5440e9018c41d56c106db60d042.png

Now we need to make some entries into your custom CSS file in the theme settings

Theme settings (AdminCP > Customization > Themes), right? Not additional CSS in the Pages templates section?

I added your code to the custom.css in the theme settings, saved everything, cleared the browser cache and, just to be sure, even did the 'something isn't working' thing (Support via AdminCP, which also says that some cache has been cleared). However, nothing has changed in the frontend. The article list and the article itself still look the same. 😞

It shouldn’t look like this. The image should float next to the text.

All templates show up as unmodified in the AdminCP, but if you guys say the image should be positioned differently by default, something might be wrong there.

I've made the changes on my own site if you want to take a look.

Yes, that is exactly what I want to achieve (except maybe less height, let's say 50% of yours). Is it difficult to use that for entries of a Pages database?
