Maybe having a good attitude and not picking fights with people on forums will prevent you from getting added again?

That is a misleading statement. Anyone who has their own webhosting account is already allowed to blacklist any user from their site. With cPanel, you can ban specific email addresses and IP addresses through your website's control panel, not to mention banning usernames, email addresses and IP addresses through your forums ACP.

Just love how someone can cast a gray cloud over anything. The Stop Forum Spam service is an excellent tool for restricting spammers from your website and message forums.

Well it's an amazing thing. I've been wholeheatedly impressed with its effectiveness. I didn't mark the one that got through as a spammer unfortunately but now I know.

By the way I haven't had a single one of these since I changed from capthca to challenge question. Thank you everyone.

What I am noticing is spammers reporting content. Then in the report is gobble-de-gook and some links. This doesn't happen that often though. Can't see how this would serve their purpose as I'm sure it's not visable to members, but there's no human decision making in any of this usually I shouldn't think.

Here's a link to another topic that might help IPB administrators showcase and chat with other owners: http://community.invisionpower.com/topic/281931-show-your-forums-here/

    Hope this helps!

Mathmatical QandA's are the absolute WORST. You need something that is specific to your demographic that only users you want to attact would know how to answer.

The spam service really ONLY works during registration. It checks the person registering against our database, assigns a score, and then takes an action against that person during the registration process based on the score (typically, their account is immediately banned if they are a likely spammer).

The spam service does not do anything during posting. You can mark spammers who get through as a "spammer" to help our database learn and grow.

ETA - if you were simply referring to the word "prevent" in that sentence, then that is true. I just re-read your post and figured perhaps you were meaning it doesn't stop the registration from completing, however when initially reading it I took your post as stating the service doesn't affect registrations, so I'll leave my above clarification in place for anyone else that reads this.

... And going back to the primary topic, I would love to see a client directory. You have no idea how many times I've gone scavenging in people's IPB profiles or signatures to find links to their websites. I've even gone so far to register on other people's sites and to email the board owners to ask how they do certain things.

I'm kind of surprised that IPB doesn't have a voluntary "showcase" of their clients, both big and small. I would find this to be a fantastic and useful resource. Sometimes it's far easier to learn through mimicry than it is through outright inspiration.

    +1

(And no, the list of customers on the homepage of InvisionPower.com doesn't count. Because let's face it, my forum starting from scratch just won't turn into NASA's forum any time soon >_< ).

I don't bother with the spam service because it doesn't prevent registration.

Q&A feature is amazing as stated above.

Yes I had no problems, I just disabled the sound in the acp and installed it. Just make sure when you do back up just in case ;) Thats what I do before any install. Ive had to learn the hard way.

So the paid sound hook is actually working on 1.3.8 (paid)? And I assume you just disabled sound on the ACP in the actual shoutbox settings? I've been too scared to try this.

I would guess it is the ping service upon new topics. That used to be an issue with IP.SEO and now that feature is built into IPB...

I love this paid app. Could I make a feature request? Allowing the user to toggle the sound off or on. Versus having turned off for everyone.

I respectfully disagree o_O. I hated trying to learn PHP from a book.

My wallet is also basically empty right now, though there is a receipt in there. You can take that if you want.

I've just uploaded a new version of this app which should hopefully bring it more in line with IPS's hosting requirements. In this version, the following things were changed:

The default refresh rate for checking new shouts was raised from 30 seconds to 60 seconds Code was added to prevent the refresh rates for checking for new shouts and for active users from being lowered lower than 30 seconds Code was added to prevent the inactivity timeout from being increased past 30 minutes The Global Shoutbox hook now does not need to auto-load all emoticons, they are fetched only when the Smilies button is clicked The Global Shoutbox hook now does not need to load up any editor code, all uses of the editor are done only in the main Shoutbox app
In addition, a few bugs were fixed and new features added:
Extra break tags + nesting error Shout ID # on shoutbox (full) page Load emoticons only on the button click

Yes, I'd like it to. But right now we have to fall back to BBCode when switching editing modes, which means introducing new table, tr and td tags. I'd rather wait until 4.0 and look at dropping BBCode as we know it which will free up what we can do with the RTE.

IMPORTANT: The actual News Feed application was not updated. There is no need to run an upgrade.
