While I certainly sympathize with the situation you are in, the fact of the matter is what I have highlighted for you. The part is the word "technically". That word has, unfortunately, caused significant struggles, pain, and downtime for our clients and significant overhead for our support on items which are outside our scope of support already. This was one of the many reasons to force authors to verify and confirm what version their add-ons work for prior to allowing them to appear as such in the Marketplace. Then also to verify those versions on install for clients.
As much as I hate to throw anyone under the bus, it is also a little protecting you from yourself scenario too. Where clients have installed add-ons from far outdated releases, which just bring their site down. This may not be your scenario here but this is an extreme example that came up often in the past.
If the author wishes to provide you the files, you can certainly upload the add-on as a custom item to your installation still. Though, from what it sounds like, the author has abandoned the project so that may not be as helpful but still worth a try to reach out.
Ultimately, this has been discussed a lot on the community and while it has not fallen on deaf ears, as we truly value your input, it is not something which we are going to change at this time. I hope this helps clarify why this was done and I do want to say again, we do value your input here and it does continue to shape how we do things here.

But since you can't install them or download them you simply can't use them. I have this very problem now on a fresh install and it's honestly frustrating that the devs decided to lock down the plugins system this way. I'm not a developer and I can only guess that tons of devs also lose revenue on this since it's no longer worth buying or renewing licenses...
I would really like to see a way to install plugins from older versions or at least being able to manually download a plugin I have bought and have a license for, because you are basically disallowing owners of a license to use the product.

Yes, the software is not aware of the sub-domain you've setup so likely was trying to access via the same generic base URL your community is setup which will break. When using a custom sub-domain, CDN, etc... a custom URL is required.

@TAMAN Wait, I think I get it now... I was so sure colors was pulled from the group formatting settings. Changing the color codes in your themes palette raw rgba values settings did the trick.

Actually I can't. I can't reproduce the problem. I just deactivated all plugins and activated them again and it started to work. So probably no fault on your end. Maybe even a cache problem or something.

Solved it. For anyone else who might screw up their badges:
Download the 4.6 IPS installation from your Client Area and unpack it. Go to your badges menu in your ACP. Click on Import and then import the badges.xml found in "yourfolder\applications\core\data\achievements". Make sure that "Remove existing unassigned badges" is set to Yes. Voila, badges restored and keep all other information like users earned etc.

Aaaah, had to set "When the number of pages is at least" to always show xD Small community xD

For example valentines day or Christmas eve, well custom dates is what I'm looking for.  It would be nice if we could reward people with badges for login in on specific dates. So that would be expanding the "Member logs in for the first time that day" rule except we would be able to choose specific dates instead, and/or a span of dates (e.g. Login in between the 24th to 26th earns you the Christmas Eve badge), instead of as it is now. It's very limited with so much power, but it's also new so hoping for some expansion.

Yeah, I updated to 4.6 before installing the plugin so IPS is kinda screwing me on that. Looking forward to a update xD

I have a few minor suggestions I think should be implemented, well, basically two features that would help a lot, not only for me I believe.
1a. Let's start with something I can't understand that isn't a feature yet. Custom formatting for Downloads Extra Fields. This would be highly useful for formatting different custom fields (which I use a lot of) and make them stand out. But the most important and the reason why I personally want this feature is to be able to output links (URL) as a proper link text. Say that there is another website that provide support for the download I offer and I want to direct users to that website. I would make a Extra Field, naming it "External Support" and then choose URL as Field Type. Easy pieacy. Well, if the URL to the external site is extremely long or just look bad with a lot of symbols and numbers, meh, not good. Imagine being able to then put in a custom formatting that would make the link go from "externalsite . com /thisisalooooongsupportlinkwithstrange-2321-%2211-numbersandstuff" to "Go Here"... Wow, mind blown.
I mean, it can already be done in Profile fields as Custom profile formatting, so why not in downloads? Please, show Downloads app some love soon, some of us actually use at the main app.
1b. (Less important) Make it possible to choose several categories to add a download to, not just one. Or maybe after you've chose category, being able to choose secondary categories would be nice.
2. Simple feature suggest, please do something about the current Marketplace option where we can't download working plugins and themes unless they are updated to the installed exact IPS version. Running 4.6 completely lock me out from installing working 4.5 plugins and themes. Can't install them from ACP, can't download them from IPS... Not a great user experience.

Did a new upgrade and it all went fine this time. Raised some limits in my php options and all seems good now. Problem mentioned is working as well.

That's not a very helpful answer. I'm having the same error @Marco Junior Compact mode is basically a less efficient format and can't store as much information as Dynamic. You can change this in your database settings (phpadmin for example) if your database supports it and depending if you are hosting the server yourself or if you are using a web-host which might not support it or only support in a higher tier payment (as in my case) . However since it's not a critical issue you don't have to worry about it unless you have a really big community.

What you describe will work, though unless you have a need for individual permissions, it's most easily done on a per-Group basis rather than a per-Member basis.
(And yes, with this method you will be granting them specific permissions to the ACP, not the ACP as a whole.)
Create a new Group, named however you wish, then grant that Group restricted ACP permissions on the ACP -> Members -> Staff, Administrators page.
Everyone in that Group would have the permissions you grant. 
You can do it the other way, on an individual member account basis, but that's more administrative work.
