If you have issues then start a topic, contact me (my email is in my signature and has been for years), or email marketplace@invisionpower.com. It's not like we make this hard to do  and we have over the years constantly made changes based on feedback.

Moving on: what you just said about how we handle piracy is just flat out wrong and shocking.

If someone is downloading stuff from the Marketplace and then pirating it we ban their entire account here (both Marketplace and client access). We have done it before and will do it again.

I am shocked you would say that. IPS spends a lot of time and money fighting piracy and takes it very seriously. It impacts us all the time. Beyond that I find it personally abhorrent. When people I know joke about downloading a song or software illegally they get quite a speech from me. So for you to act like we encourage piracy is beyond my comprehension.

IP.Board 3 is already quick, and it's from the Postmodern era

You don't need an active support license to use the visual language editor. Please don't jump to conclusions :)

jair101 asked if we can release the language files early. While we theoretically could release the .php language files we utilize, it would be pointless.
You don't have any context to know what the strings are being used for. "post" can mean a lot of different things in different languages. In English alone (at least in forum software) it could be a verb, a noun or an adjective. Just seeing random strings in a language file isn't enough. You will need to translate via the ACP (or via helper tools the ACP provides) in order to export your language pack and to allow the strings to version properly.
Unfortunately just having a dump of strings in a file isn't enough to allow you to properly translate, and even if you did you would then later have to find the same strings in the ACP and copy over your translations anyways.

Clover13 asked about a better API-driving system. The backend is much more API-driven and we will be providing an API delivery mechanism (similar to our existing XML-RPC API but more robust and better, and not in XML-RPC format which confuses most people). Additionally, yes many areas are AJAX ready. Our output handler inherently understands if the request is AJAX or not and simply outputs the resulting HTML from the request without a wrapper automatically if so. So requesting a topic view page via AJAX would return the entire topic view page but without a wrapper. Same with any other page, including forms (which makes putting forms in dialogs or modals, or on full pages, equally as easy depending upon the desired workflow).

Matt's post above clearly says why the language packs cannot be easily imported from 3.x to 4.x, it wasn't done on a whim. Spending time in writing queries or a script that renames each language key to the new one would take a huge amount of time for a really minimal benefit, honestly it's not worth the time for me and I prefer they spend such time polishing up 4.0 itself.

In 3.x every language string is pretty much "random" without a specific format for the keys, plus when a new feature got added the option in the ACP was sometimes "enable XXX" and sometimes "disable XXX". The fact that they made everything more consistent will be good for everyone in the long run.

Incidentally, I did the move from IPB early in 3.4.x series for very similar reasons as above. I will show you my path:-

Move from IPB 3.4.0 to xenforo Move from xenforo to vbulletin because does do enough and not being developed quick enough (no mark on them, they are just too young a company) Move from vbulletin to IPB 3.4.x
So basically I moved from a shiny IPB forum because of annoyances during an update, moved from one software to the next and ended up on IPB currently.

Conclusion: Pointless. Better off sticking it out.

My own experience is similar, though a lot more involved. We're ever on the lookout for something better, something that will cover all bases; but it's an almost futile task because there will always be something to like or dislike about a chosen software. I started with IPB back in 2002 and my last site was based on IPB 3.4.x - in between I've tried them all (including Xenforo and vBulletin - and vB5) and they all have something nice to offer, but none of them offer it all. So you have to decide what you 'need' as opposed to what you 'want' and ensure that those needs meet both your own expectations and those of your prospective clients.

On the face of it 4.0.0 is breaking new ground and that's exciting for many reasons, but will it fulfil all of your needs? Will it offer a new 'positive' experience to both admins and clients alike? That's something that remains to be seen. What's been revealed so far is OK but nothing much that hasn't been done before elsewhere - admittedly it's approach is different, but the end result remains the same.

The one bleeding edge factor that has been revealed for 4.0.0 is that each of the applications can work independently of each other and that is something genuinely different - how people will implement that choice also remains to be seen.

One of life's lessons I have learned is to try and see both sides and find a middle ground; it's not always easy, but everyone should try it at some point. Not everything is one-sided and that is especially so in business - never, ever, tick your clients off to prove a point because all you will see is their backs as they walk out the door. Unification and collaboration is always more productive than chaos and confrontation.
