I'm enjoying seeing these small improvements to make the layout modern. It is even better to see community participation with suggestions for improvement.
    @Adriano Faria made great observations.

Any chance for 16:9 image ratios in the events page?

I don't really like the "Improved alignment in posts" change, as I've had this empty space issue for a while and it now looks like alot more posts have the empty space issue at the end of posts

I still see a 1 second delay in font loading but it's better than before 🤙

This happens after switching to grid mode in any download category

The current coding uses auto flex-basis, so the widths are purely dependent on the width of the content. This was done to give each button equal padding on either side of the text. To change the buttons to all the same width, adding this to custom.css will modify it on your site:
    .ipsShareLinks > *{ flex: 1 1 10%; min-width: min-content; }
The UI update in 4.7.8 is just a minor polish. Larger updates such as this will likely be addressed in a larger update in the future 🙂
Strange - do you mind sending me the URL to that page so I can check?
If you haven't already posted this in the Suggestions forum, that would be ideal. It might be possible to restrict certain attachments (such as avatars) to a smaller value compared to regular attachments.

There is a flaw in this profile images and it take makes site slow or at least that's what I noticed. I just don't know what's the plan for IPS in fixing it. I will share steps:
    1. Upload an image of 10-20Mb gif in Gallery.
    2. Use IPS functionality to set that image as a profile image.
Now each time IPS opens a topic, page, etc. with profile image, users will have to download 20Mb file. Now imagine, 10 users doing it... and user has to download 200Mb size overall, to view the page.
Once that is fixed, profile icons - will be great.

    Hello,
    A couple of suggestions:
Couldn't these buttons be the same size? It gets pretty weird like that. It gets even weirder when there are only 2 buttons.
    -----------
Another visual detail that could be better is the grid view of the Downloads categories:

No user photo. No date (submitted/updated).
Could be something like this but better:

I also would like to have the start page with more configuration options.
For one of my communities one of the biggest thing is the „new images“ feature.
The old gallery had the option to click through the newest images in a lightbox.
One of the problems: It was limited to 30 images (hardcoded) which I had to change after each update to a higher number.
The new gallery has a similar feature on the start page (great!) with some disadvantages:
Embedded in the layout – no Lightbox or page without other elements Limited to the first five (5) images. Can you please provide a solution (of plugin) with a dedicated big „new images“ display without distracting elements – with a customizable number of new images?
    Thanks!
    Andreas

Unless it has changed since I worked on this, I think one really important thing to call out is the GraphQL API respects permissions. The REST API treats requests as admin requests (unless you specifically use the OAuth flow to get a token). The GraphQL API uses the logged in member. So you can query a list of topics and it'll be accurate for that member, which is really handy.

    It's already automated.
Thanks, and I agree. It's on my TODO list for the next iteration.

Woohoo 🎉 It's nice to see this become public after a long time being an internal tool.
Given one of the big selling points is the type system, it would make sense for you to include the type of each field in the documentation. Personally I wouldn't even bother hand-rolling documentation - let a tool parse the schema and just make the output available to developers (and include docs on using Graphiql GUI tool too). The docs you've put together are losing the inherent relationships that GraphQL has; I think it'd be frustrating to use them as a reference (for example, here's the query to get a club, but it doesn't tell you what fields are returned, what types they are, if they have sub-fields etc.)
When I worked on customer sites at IPS I spent a lot of effort trying to query stuff in Pages blocks using raw PHP blocks and the IPS framework. Being able to write a GraphQL query to fetch everything I needed would have been great.

@Matt Ya something like that, in the other Gallery 2, 3, and 5 had nice front-page options that have been pulled out and/or changed. Having something similar would fit more styles for owners. But also having something type of template in Pages for Gallery may do it as well maybe. There are a few ideas on how this could be done. But having some options out of the box would assist in that as well. The front pages of Galleries 2, 3, and 5 are a great ways to see how things were put out back then that made Gallery not so static as it is now for a front page.

Excellent update! I'm excited about this, and I think given the 100's of gallery improvement posts and topics over the years, you've done a great job in identifying where to start and what to prioritise.
Thank you for sorting the obviously long overdue UI issues, especially the navigation and Lightbox. Hopefully it won't be as intrusive autoloading. Great to see it less crowded. I was intending to add integration with AWS Rekognition to create image tags, so that's a nice touch.
Gallery has always been a good app, better than most in terms of functionality but it needed these modern updates every is now so used from the best WP galleries. Less JS is hugely welcome, even if less reliance on JQuery for vanilla JS, and finally native lazyloading; please add that throughout the suite immediately!
Looking forward to seeing more of the category, album and image layouts. Will there be a choice of layouts in terms of masonry, grid, filterable etc?
Any plans for Gallery integration with Commerce?
A great start to modernising this app. 😋
