    Jim,
If that post was edited to remove the violation would they see the original version that was problematic?
What would happen if that post was hidden or moved to a forum the user does not have access to?

Good day. I was curious if we could in the future add a "Select All" box for Spammers and Banned in order to delete them all at once? At this point we have to delete each one individually and it can take a considerable amount of time if you have a few dozen. Thanks!

ptprog got a reaction from Matt in Render-blocking CSS
In my setup, the CSS resources referenced in the head are loaded in parallel with a CSS that is preloaded (editor.css), so my expectation was for the preload to not have impact.  In a quick experiment, I did not see any difference in how the CSS was loaded (CSS is queued and starts a few ms after the editor.css, which is preloaded, regardless of whether all the CSS uses preload).
Based on my understanding of the preload, I would not expect it to harm performance, but I also do not expect it to help.  The idea of the preload is to load in advance resources that the browser would not be aware of otherwise (e.g. resources that are not referenced in the HTML directly from the beginning, like it seems to be the case of the editor.css or the fontawesome).  But for the "normal" CSS, the browser will see that the resources need to be loaded at the same time without the preload.

If your host is defaulting to MyISAM, you need a new host 🙂
InnoDB has been the default since MySQL 5.5 release in July 2010. I would say if your host is 13 years behind the times then you need to move along.

ptprog reacted to Nathan Explosion in PII requests - Notification settings for admins/moderators?
    Here it is

The already enabled toggle is for notifications within the ACP - so is it understandable that they may have been missed if you were not aware that they were there? Just to be 100% sure - did you toggle the 'No' in the select to a 'Yes' so that you could determine if the email notification works?
If you are not getting notifications at all then it's best to get this looked into as a bug, as opposed to feedback (as the functionality is already there, but maybe not working) - but make sure.

That’s a valid issue though. It even got worse recently now that website owners are getting sued for loading Google fonts without “need”. And YouTube videos automatically loaded as iFrame contain them too – not to mention all the other calls to Google, Twitter, Facebook and so on for their embedded content.

ptprog reacted to Gabriel Torres in Suggestion: Fix for the Reported content notification email
    Hello,
In the email template "Reported content notification", the following part:
    {$email->language->addToStack("go_to_this_x", FALSE, array( 'sprintf' => array( mb_strtolower( $email->language->addToStack( $report::$title, FALSE ) ) ) ) )} Should be replaced with:
    {$email->language->addToStack("go_to_the_report", FALSE)} Explanation:
With the default code, the button "Go to this report" that is present in the email is created based on the go_to_this_x language string. While in English this works fine, in other languages it creates two issues:
    1. "this" can be either a male or a female word, depending on the noun. So we end up with a gender mismatch in this particular case.
    2. In English, the word "Report" can be either a noun or a verb. However, in other languages, the noun and the verb corresponding to "report" may be different.
In summary, in Portuguese, we end up with "Ir a este Denunciar", while the correct form would be "Ir à esta denúncia".
The fix is very simple, however, as the platform already have this phrase in its correct form as go_to_the_report.
So simply replacing one key by the other solves the issue.
    Thanks! 🙂

ptprog reacted to 13. in Why no widget block for custom HTML or Text
We know, and we don't need it all. At all 🙂
The only thing we need is a widget where we could use HTML. It has to be a core functionality. It's logical and obvious.
It's a weird way to try selling the "Pages" app. It causes distrust and disappointment, not sales. 😥
Please, discuss it internally. I'm sure the Pages app will not suffer from moving such a small feature to a more logical place - the core.

Ok, so you certainly have spare memory available on you server 😄
You should try Redis.  If you have some analytics solution, you should be able to monitor the evolution of the performance on your site.

ptprog reacted to Dexter_X in Recompute badges for only one member
Actually we can recompute badges for all members, but for an unknown reason some users do not get the badges they should and others got too much badges... 😑
In our case recompute all the members badges takes more than 3 hours (it has been long testing our rules system...), it will be useful if we could "rebuild a single user" badges/ranks set, for the users detecting wrong badges & rank attribution...
It may also be useful for testing purposes : tests the rules set on a single user goes more fast than on the whole community...

ptprog reacted to Dexter_X in How do milestones work for rules of type Reaction is given?
According to support, the milestone is always for the receiver : the 10th reaction is the 10th reaction received by a user in the whole community (except if you have filtered by forum or by reaction type).
You cannot define rules with milestones for the "giver".

ptprog reacted to CoffeeCake in 4.6 security updates not backported to 4.5?
It's a bit concerning to see security issues not addressed for 4.5, and forcing an upgrade to 4.6. While we are in the process of testing, things aren't at a state yet here in the community where third-party developers have released compatible updates to their extensions.
    Why isn't there a 4.5 patch? See:
Some guidance and communication on when a branch will become end of life would be appreciated.

You should use a separate service for that.
Then you can use Amazon SES for sending the emails, which should be the cheapest solution you can get.

Do you mean to send or to receive emails?
You can use Amazon SES to send emails for any email address you own (you just have to configure your email client with Amazon SES SMTP server data).  If you also want to receive email in a "normal" email client, you will need more than Amazon SES.  You can use Amazon WorkMail, for example to receive emails (but there are cheaper options for receiving emails).

ptprog got a reaction from Gauravk in Data storage choice - which one is better and why?
I haven't looked in detail about how IPS uses cache (e.g. how expensive to compute are the values cached), but with the reduced number of options we have now, and assuming you have spare memory available, I expect Redis to be a safe bet.

IPS can achieve very high cache hit ratios.  So, my expectation is that using cache will improve performance.  Since now using cache requires using Redis for data storage, I would be surprised if any other data storage option was better.  Again, I'm assuming you have spare memory in your server.
Also, as @Thomas P mentioned above, using Elasticsearch for search may be a better change to start with.

Out of curiosity, what is the current size of you DB?
  22. Thanks
ptprog got a reaction from Gauravk in Data storage choice - which one is better and why?
From what I can see, in recent versions you either use Redis for "Data Storage Method", or you won't be able to select any "Caching Method" (i.e. to use Redis as "Caching Method", you also need to use Redis as "Data Storage Method").  So, I guess Redis is the way to go.

This is a product support board, not an emotional support board.  Enough with all the touchy feely emojis, gifs and any other means of expressing emotions, whether positive or negative.  All communications should be done in a completely neutral fashion.
To ensure neutral communications going forward, please remove all reactions and the emojis and gif buttons as well from the editor in these forums as a few people can't seem to help themselves from being emotionally expressive.  The old saying goes, a few bad apples always ruins it for the rest...

The +1 button was a great idea but please return or improve the number of reactions here at the IPS Community forum. It's feels to me IMHO almost like we're being stifled by some dark, manipulative branding and marketing PR department or something. Reactions allowing the ability to show you you're saddened, disagree or are confused about something and help provide a balance of opinion, freedom of expression and thought.
    Thanks for reading.

When topics are merged, the view (manage) requests are redirected, but not any other controller methods, including not embeds. The redirects are really useful, but given that most links are actually in the form of embeds there's a significant gap there.
There's also a lot of room for improvement on stopping people from destructively merging the wrong way on big topics (followers don't get ported across, and are irrecoverably deleted, maybe some other things too). The first post in the topic will always be the oldest, regardless of which was kept, and in almost every case I can think of, that means I would want to keep that post's title and therefore URL as well.
