  1. I'm forking my platform and am trying to migrate some of my forums.
  2. Thanks. I will give that a try and revert. Much much appreciated!!
  3. Thanks. So, in conf_global.php it's blank single quotes, so nothing. What I actually need are forums and users. Forums: forums_ ?? Users: ?? Anyone know? Thx.
  4. Likely silly question but what is the database prefix used by IPS, notably for forum topics. Is it core_ or ipb_ Thanks
  5. The main reason you hire a developer is to obtain a product that works. I've used Adriano to program a highly complex application and it works! Adriano knows IPS better than anyone. Not sure how long, or if he was among the first to work with IPS, but his applications are second to none. As for his knowledge of IPS, just peruse the IPS forums and see who is usually both first and right when answering people’s issues. Indeed, I took the option of buying his VIP package so that I could access all his apps permanently. Currently, I have about ten of them running on my board and never get errors, or rarely anyway, and when I do, they get fixed immediately. Importantly, as IPS continues to rapidly evolve into increasingly sophisticated technologies, it will be imperative to rely solely on well-built applications by reliable developers, hence the need for Adriano. Last thought, sure, Adriano can be a little gruff sometimes, but so is my motorcycle mechanic and I wouldn’t take my bike anywhere else. I heartily recommend Adriano for both his applications and custom development work. 👍
  6. I'm looking for someone who may have experience going back and forth to BuddyPress or BuddyBoss from IPS. I'm primarily interested in migrating users and forum content. Passwords are not mission critical and might be the more difficult part anyway. So two different needs, export from IPS to either BuddyPress or BuddyBoss and import back to IPS from the two. If anyone has experience doing it, please feel free to PM me.
  7. I know that images can be downloaded one at a time. Is there a way to download entire albums?
  8. Apologies if asked and answered. Is there any way, or app, to easily take an image that was posted in a forum thread and copy it over to a gallery album? Thx.

    Posting reminder

Perfect but rather than notified 'daily' IF it were possible, the ideal would be to set one's own reminder schedule. If I want to be reminded of something in six months for Christmas, being reminded daily might become obnoxious.

    Posting reminder

Understood and somewhat obvious. But if we use that logic then there are several functionalities that need not be built-in. Allowing someone to remind them to post, within the system, contributes to engagement. I’m not saying it will increase it by 50%, but every little bit counts. I still think that this would be a useful addition.
  11. This would, I believe, make for an interesting app or core offering... the ability to remind ourselves to post in a given topic. I just had a member start a topic. It's a great topic and I want to answer, but I want to think about it for a couple of days first. I would love to be able to set a reminder for that specific thread, much like we do with an event. Another scenario might be a mention of Christmas in a thread at which point you want to remind yourself to come back and post in time for Christmas. Etc... I would just do it forwards, as in: Remind me in... 6 hours, 2 days, or 6 weeks. Feasible? Others?
  12. If asked and answered elsewhere, please feel free to give me the link. As a satisfied and dedicated self-hosted client, who plans to remain so for a while, I just wanted to ask IPS about the self-hosted vs. cloud functionality differences. Are the differences technically-driven or business-driven? In other words, e.g. courses, who is viewing this topic, etc. are on cloud only because the implementation on self-hosted would be too technically complex or is it a business rationale to motivate a likely more lucrative cloud offering? Clearly, IPS is entitled to business-driven decisions, but I think it would be useful to know what drives the growing number of benefits to the cloud offering: programming or revenue? Another question, which I respect IPS may not wish to answer, is the current % of self-hosted vs. cloud clients. Again, I respect it if you prefer not to say, a private corporation is private for a reason, but I thought I would ask nonetheless because it will give us an idea of the probable longevity of the self-hosted commitment. If self-hosted only represents 10%, then I can see the rationale for putting maximum effort into the cloud offering. If self-hosted is still over 50%, then I feel more comforted that we'll be supported for a longer time. Both these questions are asked with an understanding of IPS' stated commitment to a self-hosted offering for the 'foreseeable future' (as per an IPS response on TrustPilot). But, admittedly, as you know, some of us in the self-hosted realm are starting to feel like an annoying cousin. Thanks in advance and, not to be too repetitive, I am an IPS supporter and love the product. I just want to be further reassured of the benefits of my/our continued commitment to the platform.
  13. Yup. Already use this and LOVE IT. Everyone should have it. But now I need to also add a couple of the profile fields to the hover card.
  14. Thx Adriano. But that's in the profile, no? Is that also in the hover card?
  15. Old thread... Any way of doing this now?
  16. Hi there, did you get a chance to code this?

    Subgroups

Thanks Adriano. So I’m not crazy… And this, I believe, should be a core IPS function. Meanwhile, I will check it out the app.

    Subgroups

No worries. Unfortunately, I must not be expressing myself adequately but I do see it clearly. Perhaps, instead of looking at it from a mechanical standpoint, the question might simply be, is there a time when a group within a group would be beneficial? And if not, then why do we do it with forums? Some platforms have opted for a flat structure, we have not. Same for groups. Anyway, thanks for the time spent thinking about this and I’ll just keep using member groups the way they are.

    Subgroups

Almost… I’ll start at the end. Reverting. I meant reverting individual permissions and settings, not the entire thing. If reverting the entire subgroup, then agreed, might as well just delete it… then again, if you do that, you lose that ‘grouping’ so the members are no longer in that ‘subgroup’ because, de facto, it’s gone. RE our current system vs. my proposal. It just becomes unmanageable to have 100 ‘groups’ that are then, I understand, assigned as secondary groups. Another paradigm that could solve the dilemma is tagging groups. Say I could tag my members as Ford, Chevy, etc. but then actually use those tags to engage with that sub-‘tagged’ group, that might be a workaround. And yup, I get that clubs sorta do that, but not really. Plus, it now creates these humongous club groupings. And I am certain you could come up with better ways of doing this. All I am suggesting is that there needs, in my opinion, to be a better way of organizing and ‘suborganizing’ or ‘segmenting’ users. Food for thought 🤔

    Subgroups

Hi Marc. Why do we have forum categories | forums | sub-forums? We do this because it provides a rational means of organizing discussions. I’m suggesting that organizing members is as critical, especially to those with large - or complex - memberships. Simple scenario: Parent Group: Car owners (with a given set of IPS permissions and settings). Sub group 1: Ford owners Sub group 2: Chevrolet owners Both Ford and Chevy owners have the same permissions and settings, so nothing to sync. However, and this is where it gets useful, I can email them separately, I can give them different badges, I can easily invite them into relevant clubs, etc. Granted, there will be the temptation to allow for some customization in the subgroups; that will need to be thought through. In a perfect, albeit, more complex scenario, one could assign different permissions and settings within the subgroups, with the option to ‘revert’ back to the parent group’s permissions and settings. Thus, I might decide to grant different permissions to the Ford group but then later, revert back to the car owners’ parent group. I really don’t know how complicated this would be on your end, but on our end, this is already happening, as I mentioned, in the category/forum/subforum environment. Also, note that in Wordpress, the ‘Members’ plugin does this by offering a Role hierarchy. On my larger Wordpress sites, this capability is incredibly useful and highly implemented. Thanks!

    Subgroups

Some communities are fine with four or five member groups. Others use them to subdivide their membership extensively and might end up with dozens and dozens. Would IPS consider the possibility of creating the concept of subgroups? The subgroup would have the exact same permissions as the parent group but one could assign people differently within the parent group. This would prevent creating dozens of groups and then having to worry about keeping them synced as regards settings and permissions. The concept is basically: Parent group 1 Sub group 1A (same permissions and settings as parent group 1) Sub group 1B (same permissions and settings as parent group 1) Sub group 1C (same permissions and settings as parent group 1) Parent group 2 Sub group 2A (same permissions and settings as parent group 2) Sub group 2B (same permissions and settings as parent group 2) Sub group 2C (same permissions and settings as parent group 2)
