I agree. I (and my moderators) really miss the ability to edit topic descriptions from list of topics view.

Thank you for replying bfarber...
Definitely not a space issue. I already checked that, I even erased around 2 GB of apache log files and still same error (mounted in the same place)... Besides it would work fine with a 3.0.0 .conf file and as soon as I used a 3.0.1 or 3.0.2 .conf file that's when I would get the error, so it would be kind of strange that I would be ok space wise and all of the sudden after just changing the conf file I would not.
I do apologize about making my inquiry here. I was just trying to get advantage of the fact that there were a few people with sphinx knowledge hanging out here.
I will just submit a ticket then. :) -
Thanks for answering RP. :)
The one at the top, had sql_port = 3306, so I changed it to 3312... The one at the bottom was already 3312 so I left it alone.
I erased all the files in /var/sphinx, proceeded to recreate all the indexes and even the commands for the crontab... Still, same error. :( -
Does anybody know, venture a guess, or whatever of why I might be getting this error?
Sphinx 0.9.8.1-release (r1533)
Copyright © 2001-2008, Andrew Aksyonoff
using config file '/correct_path/sphinx.conf'...
creating server socket on 127.0.0.1:3312
WARNING: index 'forums_search_posts_main': preload: mmap() failed: No space left on device (length=85288280); NOT SERVING
WARNING: munmap() failed: Invalid argument
Ever since IPB 3.0.1, it only worked on 3.0.0... I kill the search deamon. Then I rebuild the .conf file, place it in the path where it's supposed to go, rebuild the indexes (-all) with no error and then when I start the daemon I receive the error above. Then search doesn't work. I thought (hoped) this would solve itself with 3.0.2 but same thing keeps happening over again... :( -
I'd like to setup Sphinx on my 3.0.2 test forum to make sure it works properly before I migrate from 2.3.6. Can anyone tell me what I need to do differently from
this articleso I can get it up and running without pulling my hair out? I'm running Sphinx on 2.3.6 now, so I am pretty familiar with it already.
Thanks,
..Al
I also would like to know this. :) -
It's unlikely we'll have a skin by default that's specifically for iPhone, simply because it's only one device. There will be a better LoFi skin in a later release, though.
Excellent. -
I am very glad IPS listened. Also I think the packages offered are nice and rounded and avoid further headaches.
Thanks IPS. :) -
I wouldn't really care for their Forum skin as such. As nice as it may be, I like more of their MOBILE skin as it works on all phones without any issues.
I wholeheartedly agree with this. Their mobile skin is just great. It looks great on any device, which is a big plus. As a Windows Mobile phone user I tend to get annoyed when people only worry about iPhones and forget everything else. -
Well... Since searching using Sphinx is now a feature of IPB I would just ask for support through a ticket on how to configure it.
Ah, never mind. You don't have support. -
Something funky about that link...
Just now redirected me to http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hypertext_Transfer_Protocol
 -
Thats the point ive been trying to make Mark - i mean us standard license holders paid full price for the board and continue our support or lose access to upgrades/support if we dont pay every six months, but you guys are demanding lifetime upgrades plus extras yet cost you no further unless the odd one or two of you is willing to pay - yet we have to pay every 6 months just to keep our software current?
I have only talked about perpetual because that's the kind of license I own... That is why I said that I guessed maybe for lifetimers would/could be different. Perpetual license holders do continue to pay IPS for support. We do not get it for free.
And I did state that I think most of us perpetuals (who actually want the service) are willing to pay the difference ($20 more a year) so that you guys that renew every 6 months don't think it is unfair to you. -
Very well articulated :)
I'm interested - if you are willing to pay for the service, why you are not willing to transfer to the standard license?
After all, if we offered the service for say $25 per 6 months (not saying we will) what benefit would paying for that have over switching to a standard license?
After all, we have said we will trade your license at no charge, it's not like we're demanding you shell out $150 for a new license to take advantage of the service ;)
Because if for whatever reason we decide to not renew support + services (suppose such thing would exist) then we also give up our updates for life (perpetual) that were available when we bought the perpetual license that was available at the time. ;)
Our license has an added value. There is no denying that and we are not trying to, of course we don't want to give it up, heck no. It was there, made available by IPS... But I don't think we should be "punished" because our license had that added value. I wasn't going to comment any more and wait for the official response on the matter, like I said before, but in my opinion Mark's post should be answered. -
Come on people let's give it a rest. We have been acknowledged. Let's wait and see what happens.

Luke, really, read the thread... :P
Charles just said they are trying to work something out and to have some patience... Let's wait and see. :) -

Yeah... It does get complex and that's why I was mentioning the idea that the decision can only be made at time of renewal.
At this time I would make it a $20 fee for perpetuals with active support regardless of the time that has passed since the last time the yearly renewal was paid. If it's little time *I* don't think they/we would mind waiting and if it's a bit longer I don't think $20 are much of a problem for those who really want the service right now. I would make it a point of no nonsense can I pay 10%, 1%, etc, clean and simple.
Then when the renewal date comes again it would be time to make a decision... $50 for support + services, or $30 for support.
:) -
How about a price difference? At least for perpetuals... If a customer is active in their license, and pays the difference ($20 a year) gets the new service? Would end up paying the same as the other guys and the "second class" feeling would be gone.
At time of renewal the user would decide whether he would like to pay $30 for the year for support, no extra services... Or $50 for the year for support + services. :)
For lifetimers would have to be different I am guessing. -

@Nimdock, there's a tool included in the downloads under the Tools folder that you can use at the commandline to rebuild the posts faster.
Yup... I used it... But get this. For some reason the ACP tools were being more effective for me... Hehehe, I know it doesn't make much sense but it's true. With the ACP I was getting about 100000 to 200000 posts per run... With command line tools I was getting 8000 per run and each run slower than the one before... To the point where a run of 8000 posts would take me more than half an hour. Then it would just freeze.
I am a VPS user and I just think that my server lacks the power for that kind of stuff. I am just glad I was able to rebuild all of them even if it took me two weeks. :) -
I am still on the fence about this. For me it is not an option to use the ACP feature... I just spent about two weeks rebuilding the posts on my board... I am not going to use another two just to change a setting.

Am I the only one who's getting the pagination of this topic backwards on topic view?
Is it because of the browser of the person who created the thread? -
Makes sense at the top. Nice work. :)

I like that you added a direct link to the account without going through the menu... I guess that was because of your click heat thingy... :)
