Honestly Invision, this is really poor form. Why didn't you include a message during the "upgrade" to say EXACTLY what would happen if you opted into the new system.
    Geez.

I had some issues the last time I upgraded IPS before the theme update came out so I think I will wait until everything is hunky dory before going ahead. Now if somebody could reiterate to IPS that this infernal system update message that appears every day is seriously annoying.....

I was delaying updating to the latest Invision software but after reading this thread, I ignored the warning and did the update.  Everything seems to be fine.
Thank you Taman for your responses.

FZ got a reaction from sobrenome in WHMCS - The Opportunity Invision Might Just Miss
One of my sideline gigs is to sell website hosting to help me pay for the server that my Invision community needs to run on. To manage that side of things I opted to use WHMCS to help me with the billing and it's been fine. I also tried using the built in Invision Servers feature which does a similar thing and it integrated pretty well with my WHM/cPanel software.
However WHMCS has now gotten greedy and they are now charging their license out based on the number of active clients each of their customers has. They are introducing changes on 1 July that have upset a LOT of their loyal customers, myself included. So I thought I would look at migrating my client base from WHMCS to Invision, but I see that there is a message in ACP advising that the feature is deprecated in 4.5 and will be removed in the next release.
This is sad because there is now an active need for a good solution for web hosting billing and this might be a great opportunity for Invision to provide that solution.
Maybe management can provide some input as to why they are removing it?

Thanks for the link. Glad to hear that it will continue on in 4.6, but... if it were to become attractive to ex-WHMCS customers it might well become a really good option for IPS to develop further in future versions of IPS.
Lord knows WHMCS might be good at billing but as a CMS it is pretty awful, so being able to combine the great CMS here with server management is something that I think will attract new customers who are really fed up with WHMCS' attitude to its customers. See here. There is also a blog post somewhere on their site with a lot more comments but I can't find it right now.

I'm also looking for a way to do this. I have many guest posts with attachments from a legacy site that I need to remove. There must be a simple way of deleting them all if I am able to filter them using ACP > System > Files.

Exactly - it feels like the functionality is essentially already there with commerce + downloads, but just not an option for members to create their own 'shops'.

I do receive the newsletters (I avoid corporate social media as far as possible). Nothing I had read thus far indicated such dramatic under the hood changes to me.
Bottom line for me right now is that I am stuck here on 4.5 and having to use a default theme that I personally think looks awful and I can't find an easy way to change it. Even my premium theme doesn't let me easily make the changes I was used to making.
Just really disappointed in the design aesthetic and the fact that it's so hard to change now.
I suggest that in future it might be advisable to split your communications into categories that deal with the aesthetics changes as well as the functional changes. But then again, we're being forced to upgrade, so even if we don't like what we see in new versions there's not much we can do about it if we want to keep support current.

Have run the latest update and would like to thank you for fixing the floating bar announcement issue. 🙂
However, I am seeing that if I want to change the colour of the text in that bar using the Frontend Colors tab in theme settings, it doesn't work - just stays white. I need to make it black to stand out on the yellow colour I have chosen for the "warning" message background. Tried custom CSS and that isn't working either.
    .ipsMessage, .ipsAnnouncement { border-radius:var(--radius-1); position:relative; margin-bottom:var(--sp-3); color: #000; border:1px solid rgba(0, 0, 0, 0.1); box-shadow:inset rgba(255, 255, 255, 0.1) 0px 1px 0px; } Can you advise?

    Add !important after - use:
    .ipsMessage, .ipsAnnouncement { border-radius:var(--radius-1); position:relative; margin-bottom:var(--sp-3); color: #000000 !important; border:1px solid rgba(0, 0, 0, 0.1); box-shadow:inset rgba(255, 255, 255, 0.1) 0px 1px 0px; } See if that works 🙂

I unfortunately don't have knowledge deep enough on these sorts of issues to understand fully how it happened, but hopefully others reading about this dilemma will not make the same mistake I did.

Just for those reading, I'm working with FZ on their site.

The core issue is that the thumbnails being generated by PHP and GD are currently larger than the originals (in some cases 300% larger!), due to the image quality being set to 100.

I've been testing out various percentages and around 85% is the sweet spot and is now generating thumbnails less than the original (around 50% or less) with no real noticeable drop in quality.

100% tries very hard to preserve images, including artefacts caused by the compression of the original.

@FZThis looks different, and much more serious than what I was experiencing (I got no error messages; my CSS just tanked).  I'm sure you've already logged a support ticket with Invision, which is the only advice I could give.  Good luck!

Please add the below css to custom.css until next theme update which will be fixed
    .ipsMenu.ipsMenu_bottomRight:after, .ipsMenu.ipsMenu_bottomLeft:after, .ipsMenu.ipsMenu_bottomCenter:after { border-color: transparent transparent rgb( var(--theme-ipsmenu_bg) ) transparent !important; }

It's good to know that people are listening, but this doesn't save those of us who don't follow every development move that IPS makes from wasting literal days when we update in good faith only to find that regression has occurred instead of progression.
I'm fighting with aesthetics now for 2 full days and it seems I'll be doing so for days to come still because tweaking custom CSS now seems to involve an entirely different approach to what I am used to (inspect element in Safari is not showing me things I am familiar with).
Honestly, this isn't good looking and I truly regret doing this upgrade, but those front end upgrade notices were really starting to annoy me. 😞

Have to chip in here in agreement with the OP.
I've been using IPS since 2011 if memory serves me well and this update from an aesthetic stance is horrible. I don't even use the default theme but I can tell from 2 days of trying to get Taman's Behemoth back to where I had it at 4.4 that the changes that have been made to layout are not an improvement over 4.4. My opinion of course.
I have had to use a coloured variation of the default theme while I get Behemoth working and so far user feedback hasn't been positive.
I'm not seeing anything I like about 4.5 aesthetically to be honest.
