PPlanet reacted to sean182011 in members need to be verified before being able to view certain forum topics
Hi, thanks for taking the time to respond, so yes I wanted most of the forum private but guests have a section where they can post and explain why they would like to be a member then once account is made I have to approve manually. Doing as you said has solved this by selecting validate all new accounts by email and admin verification. Everything all working fine now so thanks for your input!
    Sean
Yes got it sorted by doing as pplanet explained just by selecting new members be verified by admin 🙂

@Adam Chernoff, you may want to take a look at these third party apps:
    https://www.invisioneer.org/files/file/23-dp45-guest-view-limits/
    https://www.invisioneer.org/files/file/24-dp45-groups-view-limits/
Particularly if you want to have a teaser system to allow guests or members of some usergroups to have a limited access to topics, rather than all or nothing.

If you update the apps first, the parameters still won't match (more instead of less). As long as you upgrade right away to 4.7.15 it won't matter anyway.

The other option is to unpack the TAR of the application, manually upload all the new files to the server (both apps and incision community), and then go to /admin/upgrade. It's not really required in this case, though.

All my apps were updated a week before 4.7.15 release (due to that) and uploaded right after the official announcement.

The problem is that IPS changed the parameters for a few functions in 4.7.15 (it was the same until 4.7.14). All applications using/overloading those functions need to be updated.

Adriano already updated his applications from what I can see on his site. For the others, you can fix them by editing the files on the server if FTP access is available (not on IPS Cloud). It's an easy fix as long as you know what you're doing.

Thanks Wicked, but I believe that in that case you should have come across the scanner before. Version 4.7.3 was the last version that worked with PHP 7.4 and it came with the scanner to help you prepare for the PHP 8-compatible versions.
I asked because if you were upgrading from something older than 4.7.3, you could have simply switched back your PHP to 7.4, uninstall the files, and then change back to PHP 8 after the upgrade.
Now, it worries me that it seems that the scanner on 4.7.15 seems to be detecting potential problems not detected by immediately earlier versions. I'm saying this based on this topic and others commenting about having trouble with the upgrade due to third party apps that now they cannot uninstall, etc.

PPlanet reacted to Adriano Faria in 4.7.15 changes
You should add in the Changes affecting third-party developers and designers the new parameter in the \IPS\Node\Model::setLastComment().
This is breaking/locking the apps and crashing the whole board install and requires the immediate attention of the developer.

If you select "Number of comments" is less than or equal to zero, it's the same as selecting "unlimited" and the entire forum will be wiped out. Zero should not even be a selectable option if it is the same as unlimited.  My goal was to kill threads with zero replies, but selecting 0 killed all threads and now I'm doing a DB restore.

PPlanet reacted to Matt in Invision Community 5: Topic Summaries
Whether you have hours to browse a community or are short on time, scrolling through a very long topic can be more than a little frustrating when you want to follow the topic's core journey.
Recently, we discussed another feature designed to help support-based communities find helpful answers quickly, but what about social topics that do not have a simple question-and-answer format?
We've all come to a lengthy topic for the first time and found it a little intimidating to find the most relevant content among hundreds of posts, which don't always further the topic. These off-topic posts are important because they help social cohesion and build relationships between members at the time of posting. Still, those visiting later often want the truth of the topic.
Invision Community 5 brings a topic summary feature designed to make the most of your time.

The topic summary is generated by an algorithm that uses many touch points such as average read times, reactions, number of shares, external linking and more to determine how useful a post is via a numeric ranking.
The summary shows an estimated read time of the entire topic and an estimated read time using the summary, which gives your members a good idea of the time they'll save.
A shorter read time will make longer topics more accessible to a greater audience.

    Adjusting the summary
We believe that algorithms should be used to support human decisions but not override them. Those with permission can add posts from the summary if they feel they are more relevant. Likewise, posts can be removed if you think they are irrelevant.

    Interactions with Helpful Posts
Invision Community supports a broad range of communities, including support-based and social communities. We are improving our toolset to help both.
You can have helpful post-voting enabled as well as topic summaries enabled. When this is the case, the topic summary will show until the helpful post-voting meets a threshold. Once that threshold is met, the helpful post information will replace it.
Of course, not all communities and not every forum will have the support features enabled, meaning the topic summary will be the only way to reduce the topic complexity.
    Less is more
Browsing the summary gives you a concise view of the topic's journey with no distractions, a vital strategy for growth.
By allowing members to focus on the core journey, you reward the time they spend on your community and make it more accessible for those short on time.
We hope you've enjoyed this feature introduction and would love to hear your thoughts!

As others say, it would be good to find out the reason, particularly if it happens that often. But if you have access to your database, see this other thread for a one by one case solution.

Hello, I have just finished setting up my new personal marketplace where this app is also available. For old customers there are a few steps to follow in order to have their purchase recognised:

    1. Register on bbcode.it
    2. Send the product key for your purchase either via ticket on the site or via MP here on the forum

There are not yet all the apps on the site, but they will be uploaded in the next few days.

I'd recommend having a read of this - Google is specific in there that you shouldn't be using cloaking for paywalled content, and that you should be using structured data for it instead.

@John Michaloudis I believe that cloaking could become a problem when the content actually differs. Eg, a blog about sexual health for search engines, instead of a list of viagra and similar products for sale for whoever is logged in.
Not so much when you have a paywall like many online newspapers do, where the search engine accesses the same content as a subscribed or logged in user, as opposite to what a guest would see (generally a message inviting him to subscribe).
A way of achieving the same with IPS, would be to create a group that you could name, "search engines", "bots", "crawlers:, etc. and you give it reading/downloading privileges akin to what logged in members have to read the topics.
Then you could install this plugin and set it up:

Also, by using Nathan's plugin linked above (which has a lot of flexibility per type of content too).

To Marketplace developers and the Invision community as a whole, I will be happy to host an independent and collaborative Marketplace directory.  It's already in the works.
I fully support a thriving ecosystem of developers and clients: to extend, to inspire, and to push the boundaries of our platform. Technology is an important differentiator more than ever in the modern web, and working with developers (either privately or through their public mods) can help fine-tune your platform.

More information and invitations will be sent out to active Marketplace devs.  You are also welcome to send me a direct PM.
Follow this topic for any future updates.

    Thanks @Jim M and @DawPi.
Yes, changing the value of the members_bitoptions column seems to work.
I changed it from 1342242816 to 268500992 (which is the value almost everyone else had there) and that seems to work.

We are still awaiting details from this user so if you are wanting to provide yours, we can also look at your issue. If you want to provide us the member name or ID and then the access below:
We would need to look further into this for you, however the access details on file appear to be incorrect or missing. Could you please update these details by visiting your client area, selecting the relevant purchase, then clicking "Review/Update Access Information" under the "Stored Access Information" section.
We look forward to further assisting you.

Improvements are nice, but my main concern is maintaining existing projects. I would want to know everything that is not possible anymore and learn if there are alternative ways. This includes hacky solutions like putting a MySQL query in a theme template and things like that. I have lots of customized installations and I don’t want them to be stuck with 4.x.
