Interferon got a reaction from Gary in Keep it simple, silly!
One thing I consistently find is that when I eliminate parts of the community that are underperforming, there's a moment of emptiness and then I get a really good idea on how to improve the rest of the site. It's like you have to eliminate the debris before the good will reveal itself.

Interferon reacted to MMXII in New Live Community Features!
Very cool feature, but sadly self-hosted communities (again) are left behind. 😞
I do not like the route IPS is going...

Why don't you use a pre-fix with the title like: [Cloud Only] New Live Community Features!
Save all us self-hosters some time in our day...

Will this also be available for self-hosted instances?

Interferon reacted to AlexWebsites in Spark more real time engagement with the Trending Content feature
So you can't get this unless you are spending $549 per month? That's a bit rediculous. I'm ok not having this, not a game changer.

I don't believe any gaming communities outside of developer/publisher/merchandiser forums would actually be able to afford to use given the restriction to business & enterprise cloud plans

Interferon got a reaction from Felipo Antonoff - Opencart in Why community forums stand the test of time
It is definitely better to create your own community than to allow it to be outsourced to another platform, where you don't even have the email addresses of your own customer base. IPB does a nice job of making an addictive experience people keep coming back to check on every day.

Matomo Analytics is like Google analytics hosted on your own site:
https://matomo.org/
It 's free, it will run faster since it doesn't have to connect to another server, and all your site data remains private.

Does the REST API support achievements? We could use to award achievements as the user uses our games.

Interferon got a reaction from Jordan Miller in Take Your Community to the Next Level With Content Curation
I have found that having low quality content is the same as removing high quality content. When I went through and removed all the joke / not real images from our gallery I was amazed at how much good content we had that I had never seen before.

The "Featured Images" area in the gallery is also a good way to make sure your best content is shown first. People see that and get an idea of what kind of quality is expected.

Interferon got a reaction from Sonya* in Solved Content Improvements
I have gotten a lot of complaints about how the selected answer is taken out of order and placed right after the question because it breaks up conversations.

Interferon got a reaction from Cowboy Denny in 4.5: Blog Categories
Right, because end users are going to come up with sensible categories they will all share.
I have to rename the majority of our submitted files in the downloads system because people can't use capitalization properly, misspell words, or add weird symbols to their titles. Probably 100% of the time I have to rewrite their descriptions because they don't use complete sentences. If you allow users to screw things up, they will any way they can.

Interferon got a reaction from Cowboy Denny in 4.5: Blog Categories
This feature is incredibly confusing. It's just an extra field to fill in when writing a blog, and I have no idea what I am supposed to type. My users are going to be perplexed.
-
Interferon reacted to Sonya* in 4.5: Blog Categories
A user has to create (or choose) category for every entry within his blog. Those categories are for this single blog only, not general for all blogs or users. When he submits another entry to the blog later on, he can choose already created category (one of the previous entries) or create a new category.
-
Interferon reacted to Sonya* in 4.5: Blog Categories
There are two kind of categories:
Categories for blogs, e. g. General, are there to structure blogs. They are managed in AdminCP. Categories within a blog are there to structure entries. They are entered by users who submit blog entries on the frontend.

Interferon got a reaction from Matt in Launching a new community needs purpose, value and emotion
This is actually pretty good high-level advice. I think I could do a better job explaining why customers should join our forum instead of just saying "here is a link to the forum". A steady drip of technical articles is also a good idea.
