It is possible to extract an image from the MP4 file with this project: https://github.com/PHP-FFMpeg/PHP-FFMpeg I would prefer to host our videos on our own site, but our users will always choose the easiest route, which is currently to drag a video file onto Discord. We're trying to nudge our users away from Discord and onto our website, and requiring a separate image thumbnail is just one more annoyance that makes them prefer to post things on Discord. You think this is not important, but from a user behavior standpoint it's critical.
  2. My users like to group their images into albums, but when they do the images get hidden away and don't appear when browsing through the category the album is in. It would be much better if they would still appear in the category so they don't get lost in the site.
  3. I would really like to see a unified chat and activity system that can be added as a widget on the main forum page. The activity stream widget does not include images for blogs/gallery items/videos. It's just a bunch of text information, which is not very enticing. We're also using Chatbox, with a lot of success, as it eliminates the need for a Discord server. The status updates system could function in this manner, if the process of entering an update was just streamlined a bit. We have a recent images block, a recent blogs block, etc., but it's difficult to fit everything on the page, and the types of content update at different speeds, so some stuff gets missed while other items hang on the page forever. It's so obvious there needs to be a unified visual stream of site activity and chatter.
  4. I have a Stripe account set up and integrated in my IPB community, and set to use Alipay. When I attempt a transaction, I am taken to a page on Alipay.com that says the following: How do I complete my setup so users can purchase items through Alipay? The instructions on Stripe's website seem to be for low-level programming of integrations: https://stripe.com/docs/payments/alipay/accept-a-payment
  5. We would like to begin using Alipay to reach more worldwide customers and not be bound to American systems: https://intl.alipay.com/ I believe Alibaba is something like 3x bigger than Amazon. I know this is supported somehow through Stripe, but the whole point is to be able to operate in the Asian system without going through American intermediaries.
  6. I forgot how to do this and I can't figure out how to change it.
  7. Is it possible to use this plugin to force only blog entries to have a minimum word count?
  8. Another idea along these lines is to have a minimum word count for blog entries.
  9. I have no idea why I wrote "Cancel" in the title. The problem has struck again:
  10. I'm actually wondering why we can't just enter an FTP username and password for this? Why do we need a third-party service at all? It's easy and cheap to set up an unmanaged VPS with a large capacity. The key is to have a separation of user-created files and website files. Our backups would be impossible if each one was 100 GB, but with S3 our site is only a few GB and our user files can be backed up much less frequently.
  11. Matt, I need your cell phone number. I have a lot of good ideas. (This is totally normal here.)
  12. Does IPB collect statistical data and analyze it in terms of user engagement? It would be very powerful if they could survey data from all participating communities and come out with reports like "we found that user engagement increases X% when this change is made".
  13. I think searching in the current section should be the default behavior. I don't know why it isn't.
  14. Great, but the areas where we really need this are gallery, downloads, and videobox. A global system that integrates everywhere would be ideal. We have hundreds of items that have been available to rate for several years, and that whole time probably three people total added a star rating, while thousands added a "like" reaction.
  15. I've disabled all star ratings across our site because no one ever uses them. However, people use the reaction button all the time, every day. I can see now why Steam changed their system a few years ago so that an item's rating is based on likes instead of choosing a rating. As of now, we have no way for content to be rated. It would be nice if stars showed up based on the up/down votes. Obviously they would start off at 2.5 or 3, and then as ratings accumulate, it would push the star rating up towards 5 or down towards 1.
  16. We have more featured images than can appear on the gallery front page. It would be nice if the front page showed a random selection of all featured images. This would allow us to feature more content, and would prevent the gallery front page from getting stale.
  17. Is there a plugin that makes the Downloads categories list of files look less like a forum and more like an "App Store"?
  18. We have a lot of spam accounts that are registered on our site and fill in the "About Me" section of their profiles with spam links. I currently have this section completely disabled to prevent it from hurting our site ranking. Is there a way to prevent the guest group from viewing member profile fields, so search engines don't pick up the spam links?

This can be done with ffmpeg: http://adnan-tech.com/add-thumbnail-to-video-php-ffmpeg/
  20. I am wary of putting effort into anything that depends on economies of scale or network effects. For most websites this will not result in any sizable amount of money changing hands. It should be pointed out that if you have the traffic to take advantage of this business model, you must also have the resources to pay for development of a custom implementation of this functionality.
  21. Reading my description above, it sounds like I am talking about the blog header. What I meant was to require them to upload an image for a new blog entry, to help weed out low-effort blog entries. I have found that since the blog headers came into existence, my own blog entries have become fewer, longer, and more polished. I don't have any opinion on the other things that were discussed here.
