Ocean West got a reaction from OptimusBain in ACP Search - Tag Discover New Feature Settings
I have gone a few weeks and months when a new toggle switch was introduced for a new feature but failed to find it.
I was late to enjoy the new settings unless it's obvious a lot find and seek goes on in the acp.
Can we get a set of tags or something that when we type some tag specific to the version or something it will list ALL new settings and navigate me there?
Or if by some magic the content of the release notes appeared in our own ACP and any new or altered 'setting' had a button or link to setting.

@Feneroin  That's worse its punitive for entities who would rather manage cash flow instead.
But the base line would have to be flipped and discounts would be applied to longer terms.
    Example: My renewal $310/year
    Monthly: $25.83
    Quarterly: $77.40 - 3% discount or $75.18
    Bi-annual: $155 - 5% discount or $147.25
    Annually: $310 - 8% discount or $285.20

I would like to offer a story in hopes that it is heard.
    It's tangentially related to IPS.
I develop database solutions for customers using Claris FileMaker which is an Apple Company my forum site is a technical community born at a time when Claris was tone deaf with regards listening to their developers and partners. They removed a vital communication - email list serve. Thus my forum was launched, and gained a steady following, and now after 20 years been thriving on the Invision Platform for the past 12 years.
Several years ago Claris made some decisions which including introducing their own community which was running on Jive for a long time, it was not with out its quirks but tolerable. A few years back they switch to some Salesforce abomination and which is what is running today. My observations and discussions with others in my community spotlight it was a corporate culture problem, these decisions had reaching tentacles in too many other interactions with developers. Where there was lip service paid and they were simply not listening to the feedback from developers in the trenches - many vowing to jump ship and find alternatives platforms.
In the past year and half there has been some very positive change from this stagnate corporate culture - including being much more resolved to be more transparent by inviting feedback from trusted partners with open exchanges of ideas and plans well before they are set in stone and communicated before they are made public. They have switched to an agile release cycle but they are also using the agile methodologies in all departments of the company.
at your leisure watch the keynote address from last month. If you're at all interested I've started it at a good point in this video. Feel free scrub back and forth and listen to entire messaging and commitments. It's refreshing and moves us past misgivings of the past.
Reading thru this thread I see similarities with this community and the ecosystem that it creates.  Not the time now to alienate your trusted developers and content creators. You must focus on what you do best and allow your community to thrive by encouraging investing, focusing lowering the bar to entry for them to provide much needed talent. It's a symbolic relationship and we all can win.
I was very pleased when @Jordan Miller came on the seen and started communicating conversing with us; intensions and direction of IPS. This was a much welcomed change akin to that of what other communities have come to realize is the glue that binds us together.

If we have lost ability to have private communications and have to thus submit details screens shots and urls or even logs in a pubic forum then you must have an Eyes Only custom editor section in addition to public editor so that only IPS Staff can see the content we post. Which also allows authors to see Eyes Only threads.

    Hello,
I haven't dared go look at my Client Centre yet! The few groats I've earned from the Marketplace are all I've had as income since 2017 since being made redundant due to UK austerity cuts. So it's a scary prospect.
Honestly... Nobody likes change. It's rarely good. Someone always gets the pointy end of the stick. It's usually me or the little guy, but rarely the enterprise corporations who can afford the change.
However I appreciate that prices haven't increased for a decade, and a reasonable increase would be understandable, we know this, it's overdue but it needs to be said these significant changes are sadly once again being poorly implemented and probably compounded by an almost total lack of notice, no dialogue, a lack of communication, causing major headaches and increasing uncertainty.
Yes, of course you don't have to consult or engage, but in my experience, just like change between employers, managers and employees, if you do, you'll often find it makes change a lot more smooth and easier to swallow. Both company and customer may come to appreciate things they were unaware of, and/or offer suggestions or alternatives.
A few points of feedback for what they may be worth...
    Re the price changes...
I think there has been an obvious failure to give fair and reasonable notice of the financial changes, in particular to those needing to renew in the real short term (meaning days, weeks) but especially to everyone who needs to renew in the next few months. Hopefully Lindy and Charles will realise this oversight, take ownership of the situation from a customer service perspective and immediately ensure no financial impacting changes until the next 6 month renewal period for all non-enterprise clients has expired. After all IPS says it's all about supporting communities. So do the right thing.  This is a decision that will strike at the heart of IPS communities that were already struggling even before COVID impacted, and those under significant financial pressure. For many, having to find more than double the funds up front for a year in advance, is not an easy sell, but for many is not easy to accommodate either especially with short notice. The lack of a small discount for multiple license holders is disappointing. Don't compound things, please space them out and easier to swallow!
    Re the Support changes:
Removing Support Ticket facility is a seriously poor and frankly ridiculous decision. Increasing the license costs at the same time is pretty terrible and almost ridiculous. IPS Support should make better use of the Support Forums, absolutely, but in addition to Support Tickets, not instead of them. Many I suspect are fed up already with being to create a ticket for most Support Topics they create reporting problems. You tell us it's because you need site access to investigate or fix things, so how will this help? I don't want to name my website communities that be having problems in a public forum, my clients wouldn't appreciate it but also I like many are reluctant to post links and references to specific communities mainly because those topics appear on search results, it's unprofessional and gives a poor impression aside from anything else. Others may not appreciate doing so because of privacy or sensitivity considerations. If you don't use your own ticket system, I can see a time coming when you drop it entirely from Commerce. Maybe even move it to a separate app or module for Commerce. "Our enterprise clients use dedicated solutions like Zendesk, so we're dropping it" sort of thing.

Ocean West reacted to Daniel F in WYSIWYG Editor Block only in pages?
It seems that this was a bug in our upgrader.

The WYSIWYG widget was indeed limited to be used in the pages app in the past, but we changed this 2018 for IPS 4.3.4 (geez, time flies:D ) , but due to a bug in our upgrader, the restriction was never changed, so all instances which were installed before we made the change were unfortunatly not able to use the widget outside of the pages app, while new installations were, hence the problem with reproducing it.
I have fixed this now for an upcoming release 🙂

Ocean West reacted to opentype in WYSIWYG Editor Block only in pages?
Not sure. But just in case you are not aware: you can create the block in the ACP and then choose it on the front end as “custom block”. I prefer that method anyway. Much safer and easier to organize this way.

So in the ACP there are a few settings that require you to download and then ftp SFTP your constants file to the server.
Could there ever be a way that the ACP could do this automatically? Since upgrading the site we never really have to download and upload any more?!

Ocean West got a reaction from CoffeeCake in 'Flag as Spammer' - Does it block use of e-mail address?
The issue I have with delete content for spammers is there are no explicit safeguards to prevent this option for members of other groups from being banned.
Not that I fear it would happen out of malice or intent but rather by accident or curiosity what happened if a moderator flagged someone as spammer who is a long time member?!
I would prefer that this option be only allow to work on  specific groups (newbies) not blankly across all groups -
It seems highly unlikely that a long term member would randomly start spamming a site, this to me indicates their account were compromised and other mitigation should be taken. Such as putting said account in timeout wiping out credentials and putting the last X number of posts in to a queue for review.

Currently a profile field type once set its always of said type.
It would be so much better that once a member reaches a threshold and promoted to a different group than the type of profile fields could change from a text area to the editor.

Ocean West reacted to opentype in Profile Field type based on group?
It’s probably too much of an edge case when implemented exactly the way you ask for. The clean and obvious solution is the ability to simply assign profile fields to groups. Then you could have the text area field assigned to one group and a separate editor field assigned to the other group. There would be a broad use for that and it always puzzled me that this isn’t possible already. It’s kind of obvious. We probably don’t want people to sign up and set all kinds of advertising links on their profile, but we might be happy to allow it later on when they move up to another member group of active members, paying members and so on.

So nearly half of the registrants in 2021 were from India/Pakistan ( 226 out of 433 ) In my research none of these have posted anything to the site. Of these 90% had filled in their profile fields and a bio. Typically most real users don't. Many of the bio's have tons of links. or random marketing from weddings, to rentals, industrial supplies, CBD, Tarrot Reading etc. None of them have visited the site after they joined. 205 of them use aol / gmail / yahoo / me / outlook / hotmail email addresses there rest used a custom domain (17 of which were variants of the same domain ) and the one with the custom domain aimstormsolutions.com turns out I have 40 registered members (all of which fall under same issue except they may not be in India or registered before 2021) they've all passed the captcha, questions, spam prevention, and spam defense. So what can be done to better purge these as they happen or increase the Spam Defense. If I go thru and ban all these will this signal to IPS and fortify the system for others?
