Sonya* reacted to Matt in Invision Community 4: Pages databases in Clubs
Finally, one of the most requested features for clubs in Invision Community is coming with our March 2024 release: Pages databases in Clubs.
You may be surprised to see a new feature being introduced for Invision Community 4 during our flow of news for Invision Community 5, but as we're committed to Invision Community 4, we wanted to continue to bring optimizations and improvements to the platform.
What is the benefit of this new feature?
Clubs enable communities to host multiple micro-communities with many benefits. Clubs allow more specialized and focused discussions on specific topics. This can lead to higher-quality content and a deeper exploration of niche subjects that may get overlooked when posted on a busy forum. Clubs also offer the ability to tailor the community experience based on the needs of that community. That customization is what this feature focuses on.
Pages is a powerful application that allows truly custom layouts for content areas. Simply by adjusting templates, you can create a news feed layout (it is what we use for this news blog area!) or something even more customized to your needs.
The March 2024 release allows you to create Pages database categories directly inside clubs, including custom fields and templates.
    How does it work?
Setting up your Pages database to allow clubs to use categories is simple. Simply allow categories to be created within clubs when creating or editing a database.

Once that is done, club owners can add a Pages database category to their club in the same way they can add topics, galleries, etc.

Once the Pages database category has been added, you can then add content as you would any other club area with the added features of Pages, including custom templates and custom fields.
This example club uses a custom Pages database listing template to show the articles in a custom format along with custom field data.

Likewise, viewing an article in this example club showcases the use of custom templates to present the content differently from the standard topic templates Invision Community uses elsewhere.

Allowing Pages database categories inside clubs brings the opportunity for more complex custom areas making use of multiple custom fields along with truly custom layouts using templates. This is a great way to bring additional areas, such as news articles, into your club areas to compliment discussions.
We hope you enjoy this feature, and if you have any comments, please leave them below!

We have a "Mention" link. It just scrolls down to the Reply-field and adds the username, formatted as mention. No quote. Just the username.

You could rename it to Reply.
(It is a pretty simple plugin that was offered in the past on the Marketplace.)

Rename it back to Quote. If they do not see a wording “Reply” there, probably they do not use it to reply.

It is not only optional. It is difficult to find for users. Our users upload a single image and then cannot find the field for the caption. They do not understand that they have to upload, then click on the uploaded image, then fill the caption, then submit. I would prefer a simple GUI for single upload, where the user is forced to give caption AND description for the image.
We are going to pause our gallery with 39,000 images and 350,000 comments because of this problem. Indeed, images cannot be found, moderators are tired of editing the captions and descriptions.
I hope there will be a better solution in v5.

Just a shout out to Team Invision:
We upgraded a site running 4.2.4 (how old is that?) today to the current version of 4.7.15 and it went really smooth.  The site has about 20,000 members (not sure how many topics), but the upgrade didn't take long at all. 😍
We have two big sites running 4.3.6, which we're going to upgrade this week too!

Without enforced image renaming  from the default file name during the upload it renders the search for images redundant

if for instance I'm on a car forum and I want to search the gallery for a specific make and model of car but all of the images are called DSCwhatevever.jpg then I'm not going to get many results

ATM renaming images is optional, personally I'd prefer to make it a condition of uploading to storage space that I'm paying for, whilst I'm grateful for the content it would be better if it was in a usable format, as it is, once an un named image has left the latest image feed it will probably never be seen again

Good day folks. I create custom blocks for a lot of things, temp blocks for an event I'd like to highlite for a time period, blocks for advertisers that have limited times of showing and no longer usable, blocks that at one time seemed like a good idea, and now they aren't.
As I was going through my blocks and cleaning house, I found it very difficult to actually determine which one went where and if it was being used or not. It would be nice to have a small blurb in the custom block "Details" where the block is being used, or not used at all.
Perhaps something like "used on acme page" or "not active" or something of the sorts. Thanks for your consideration.

There's a bit of confusion here from my brief responses. I'll be a little more verbose in this reply. 😄
Here's how the system should work and why:
The rule 'Member logs in for the first time that day'...

... offers two options. "Time since registered" and "concurrent daily login". These are two different things.

The time since registered, is simply an award based on the length of time since they joined.
The concurrent daily log in is simply an award based on the number of days concurrently logged in (so logged in daily without fail for N days).
This rule is triggered by a new session being started. A new session is started in the code for you when you either manually log in with a form/button or visit with cookies stored.

Starting with Invision Community 4.6, we record the log-in date in a separate table.

With 4.6, when a session is created, a row is either added or updated for that day.
This means that from 4.6, future rebuilds CAN award the "concurrent log in" badges without a user needing to log in again IF they have logged into your 4.6+ version at any time.
With regards to time since registered: if you chose to rebuild your achievements, the rebuild iterates through your members and looks for valid full members, who have visited at any point since you launched your community and checks to see if their joined date is old enough for the badge.
If you chose not to rebuild your achievements, then you would need to wait until a user comes back and log ins to create a new session and trigger the event.
Hopefully this clears it up. I understand it's a bit confusing and it seems like you've had overlapping answers because it's a fairly complex part of the suite and what happens is really conditional on the length of time since you've upgraded to 4.6, and when you last rebuilt your data and when your users last visited.
  15. Thanks
Sonya* reacted to Dll in Achievements - Days/Months/Years of Active Membership
It doesn't work that way. It's based on when the user logs in, so won't award it to someone purely for registering a year ago and not logging in since.
  16. Thanks
Sonya* reacted to Marc Stridgen in Achievement rebuild will take some months. How to stop?
There is no way in which to stop that process once its started, other than manually manipulating it in the database. Of course doing that would mean it would be part processed.

Currently I am still using this plugin (I know, it is a plugin, not an app, but it works with 4.7.x).
"Friendly URL Translit By Ilya Hoilik https://ipshelp.ru" (the url is not working either it is for search purposes if you want to hunt for it)
Iirc it used to be a free plugin in the marketplace, it removes all non-standard chars from the url.
It keeps the emojis (and accented non-English characters, etc) in the topic title, but removes them from the URLs.
Imo it should be part of the core functionality for SEO.

There is this application but in IC5 something like that must become a part of the Core.
Bots that sneak thru the registration process is so annoying. What's more annoying - making all members links to be moderated. This is a no-go.
IPS should allow to setup some rules where a member who has yet to have X no. of posts and be a member for Y amount of days to get his posts held up for moderation if they include links. Even EDITED posts for that matter. I see a common practice when bots or smartass spammers write a generally okay comment, wait until topic gets more replies then edits that post to something else and includes backlinks. Even when editing if link is present the post should be held for moderation.

Sonya* reacted to opentype in Feature request: better control of bulk mails per time
There is already the BULK_MAILS_PER_CYCLE constant to solve issues with hosts that have trouble with many emails at once.
Equally, if not more important, is how many emails are sent in a given timeframe. It’s normal for hosts and email services to have some kind of limit in that regard, but with the way IPS sends out bulk mail, it unpredictable when these limits are being hit and there is no way around this problem when the limits are hit.
I suggest a solution like a MAX_MAIL_CYCLES_PER_TASK constant or setting to limit the amount of cycles run each time a cron is being fired. So, for example, I could set 1 run of 100 emails with the cron running every minute resulting in 1000 mails in 10 minutes.
I understand that IPS isn’t all that focussed on features that would only help self-hosted customers, but it seems like an easy implementation which could help a lot of users. It’s actually the behaviour that people are already expecting.

This is incorrect. Support is on the deprecation list. Physical items within store are on the deprecation list. Store itself is not. In answer to your question though, you could disable those if you dont use them.
