I think some people have registration's remorse like "Buyer's remorse" 😄

@media I think they believe they would find some secret content available only for registered users. They register, look for the hidden stuff, do not find any and want to delete their account.

    On my board, I get this a lot;
People sign up thru social media login in;  then 10 minutes later I get a cancellation contact message...

This is exactly the difference to the "anonym" social media, where nobody cares about you. If you do not have any "friends" or followers - you are alone there. In your community you can (should) care of your member, be personal, warm and hospitable. You will never manage to achieve it the same way in social media.

This is not necessarily true. (And using a different password everywhere could drive a person crazy in this day and age.) Changing your password more often - especially when forced -, leads to lazy, insecure passwords.
Microsoft actually talked about how it's a dated practice. Better security and things like 2FA go much farther, especially when you already are using a good password. Avoid using common passwords that are very easy to guess, which includes names and birthdates.

That 'Submit a feature request' translation can i use it on category basis? Ex - Category A - has it translated to 'Feature Request' and Category B as 'Ask Question'
    Thank you

And I know a guy who had hemorrhoids. He did not want to join hemorrhoids FB group. He has found a forum and was able find Dr. through it and got support from other forum members. Most of them did not want to use their real name there to some reasons 😉

I am part of some webmaster forums, yoga and hiking. Crazy active forums. I have also seen lot's of fashion forums and even mom's forums where moms talk to each other. They even sell stuff through their forums and makes crazy $$ out of it.
This is still a prove for nothing. Neither that FB group is easy and own community is hard to maintain, nor vice versa.

Some thoughts in no particular order:
    1. Yes, Facebook will be here for a very long time.  They've done an exceptionally good job of making the service as sticky as possible for users, with games, marketplace selling, and soon their Libra coin.
    2. Facebook and Discord is not free.  There's a false sense of free with those services, where it's literally costing you your user data and privacy.
    3. Whether or not Facebook and Discord are easier to start a new community on, they're exceptionally bad for large communities with a lot of activity.  There's no long form communication or organization on those platforms, which makes to hard to save and retain the best content.
The one overwhelming takeaway from this article is that anytime you rely on another platform, you're at it's mercy.  The only way to protect yourself is to run an independent community.  You lose a lot of the platform's benefits, but you control your own destiny.

    Google prefers parameter pagination:
BTW: I lost a lot of rankings/traffic after upgrading to 4.4. - but this may also be caused by the last major google algorithm update. At the moment it is quite frustrating.

    Hello Matt,
There are some really big SEO mistakes with the 4.4... For instance with the homepage of the clubs:
You added a meta canonical with the URL without parameters. But the homepages of clubs force the URL with parameter "/?do=overview" via a 301 redirect. So now, the homepage of my clubs are de-indexed from Google results. Not sure we can call these problems "SEO improvements"...

We really work hard to nurture our community. Out of all the choices we had to build our community on, IPS made the most sense, as it has some amazing features. I just wish from the core, the developers would think more about DISCOVERY and ease of finding information, as well as navigation. The whole 3-4 clicks to get anywhere, and then have to scroll all over hoping to find a link BACK is crazy. We can only do the awesome things you said in your article WITH the right tools to keep community members happy. I do not at all regret my decision to move our community here, but I do want to really work with the devs here to focus in on what is MOST important.
The way that I always approach UI is ask myself, what are the 20 things people do MOST on the site. Knowing those 20 things, I make those the easiest to find and do. And then I build backward from there. Now that those things are easy, how can I stack without losing that flow.
It seems like development on here is more about the functionality of the plugins. Which IS important, don't get me wrong, but you can have all the amazing features in the world...but if navigation and discovery are hard...then those things don't matter.
Anyway, sorry for the rant on your post. It is just that I can see you think the same way we do. I want to know that we made the right choice to move our AWESOME community here. 🙂

I am really in love with Invision. All things were so simple back in 2004 as I have started with my community. I could do everything from SEO to design myself. Today it is just impossible to keep up with all the changes out there. It became so complicated. Therefore I am so happy that I have you, boys  You make my life easier and my community were meanwhile dead without this platform.

Email banner ads? Outstanding! (I haven't read about that one before.)
Lazy loading? SEO improvements? WTF PWA?
    Holy COW!
Letter avatar - I thought was a great idea ... But now, SVG letter avatar? Yeeeesssss!! Letter avatars are a great way to personalize each account with little effort. Bravo 👏
I've been impressed with the 4 series and it keeps getting better.
I think I will finally take the plunge and purchase a license.
All this is just icing on the cake. What I love about IPS these days is that they are thinking of the admins....
GEOlocation free Social Login free ( At one point, I was paying close to $6000 a year for similar ser'vice) Built in Advertisement System free (Less work to develop in-house system) Store Commerce (Woocomerce alone cost over $200 with some basic extensions) amazon S3 Integration free Security Enhancements such as Google Authenticator free (previously paid for DUO) etc EXCELLENT JOB!!!!
