Well that's depressing. It's unfortunate to see such longstanding issues persist.
I understand that addressing them might not be a priority in the current 4.X version, however, it's disheartening to learn that this matter has been lingering for quite some time without a resolution.
IPS Staff: It would be reassuring to know if there are any plans or considerations for addressing these concerns in future updates.
    Kind regards.

Tons of icons on a page can weigh things down pretty fast if you are not careful to limit the number displayed (even with caching on delivery and in browsers) - but yeah this isn't a big deal. To be compatible with the above he'd have to target this plugin specifically (those IPS widgets are doing things different in each one) - but to just show icons and what not st a nothing burger.

    I can completely understand this:
This is a completely valid and reasonable explanation.
Attributing it to greed is, in my opinion, just flagrantly ignorant, intellectually lazy, and quite honestly downright uncharitable towards IPS. And in before someone starts crying "FAN BOY!" or some other juvenile and asinine tripe: There are many valid criticisms; such as the utterly toothless blocking/ignoring system, as an example I can name off of the top of my head. This; ain't it chief.
Theoretically a PHP version is possible, in a similar way that the site pushes notifications "live" without refreshing the page. I think ArrowChat and other chatbar things do it when a user is typing a message, for example and it's based on a heartbeat, which has an inactivity timer that reduces the checks/requests.
However I doubt that's very performance efficient and if lots of people are looking at any given topic, could perhaps introduce quite a nasty spike, as far as I am aware. But it is possible. If you're that angry about it or if you are that keen on having this feature, one option could be to commission a standalone mod from someone who can find a more performant way of implementing it. This could potentially generate some income for the developer, but it would require a careful consideration of the performance implications and usage patterns to ensure that it does not cause any significant issues.
The fact that it's not option already tells me that it's probably not worth doing, probably because the aforementioned problems I pointed out.
    But what would I know?

Check for that member ID, then open core_validating table. Find that member and remove row. Then open core_members and find that member info again. Edit and empty whole members_bitoptions. You may lost other informations from that field, but most important is to unlock member account. 😉
This isn't best method to achieve what you want, but should work.

I don't think so. That's how the clubs integration works unless I remove it at all from the app. Actually it was added only to make polls works:
But I don't see much sense in this app to use Clubs. I'll release a new version to remove it.

Thank you Marc for clarifying what you meant. I appreciate your perspective on this matter. Just to clarify, I did message you privately back in August of last year about the issue and where it originated from. At that time, my intention was to discreetly inform the staff, and you included the Marketplace Moderator @Daniel F, who then contacted the developer on my behalf and got the issue resolved, or it had been resolved and I just needed to update.
As for making the information public, I felt it would be best to avoid targeting individuals or creating unnecessary drama. My reasoning was to ensure that everyone involved could focus on resolving the issue without any undue distractions.
However, I do understand your point that sharing the information publicly could help others who may encounter the same issue. So, I'm open to discussing whether or not it would be appropriate to make the information public in a responsible manner.
Thank you again for bringing up this important matter, and I hope this better clarifies my position.

Yeah it's pretty well known at this point that the ignore/block system is all bark and no bite. It's one the main things I criticise this application for.
A lot of people on my community say that when they block someone they don't want to see their content, full stop period. Unfortunately, people you've "Ignored" still show up in the activity feed for example and their content isn't even blocked there at all, at least in my testing a couple of versions back.
It also doesn't stop them from sending private messages to you, if they already have an open private message with you. Which rather defeats the whole point. It also doesn't stop someone from just adding you to a conversation with them either.
As I said. All bark - no bite. The most ineffective block/ignore system I've ever seen implemented, full stop period.

Whew! What an ordeal! Thanks for the follow up. I remember when I first got my community up and running I was installing all kinds of neat plugins, then I read somewhere it's best to stay minimum, so I stripped it all back, and I am down to about 8 plugins and it's manageable.
I can feel your pain from here, all the way over here! So happy it's working as expected. 🙂

Tripp★ got a reaction from JohnCourt in "Licence Key Invalid" - Except it's not.
Hi there, just wanted to give an update to this and respond to some things:
Yeah, there was one application that was checking the Licence key. The new application author removed this routine when I brought it up with them (They aren't the original creators of that application, they took over it when the original person left).
Low and behold: I've not had this issue since. So it was a rouge application; one that I won't name as the author has fixed it and I don't want to cast it in a bad light.
^ Absolutely correct. Some of these applications are critical to our site and it's set up. Just disabling one of them isn't an option, unless I have a pretty damn good reason. Disabling all of them, is unthinkable...
Okay, I'm being overly dramatic here. But I'm talking from our user's perspective.
Yeah if it was something I could do over say a weekend, I would have highly considered it.
The fact is, is the problem is was so intermittent that the applications would have to be disabled for potentially two months at a time. Picture that one by one over 40+ applications/plugins that we use to customise our site at two months per application or plugin, you're looking at six and a half years of one application or plugin after another being offline, just to go through them all. By then IPS will hopefully be releasing IPS Version 7 or something, and/or the application I'm not testing will have updated which fixes the problem.
I suppose this is one of the reasons that IPS say you should be careful about the amount of third-party applications/plugins you add to your site, especially with all the hook-in points that go with it which can often be many more times the amount of applications/plugins you have. It's more points of failure to account for and it forces people to be a little bit more creative when coming across issues like this. Which in my case I found it by: pulling all of the plugins/applications off my server and going through every single one of them, looking for specific things in Visual Studio Code for the IPS Licence call.
I was able to find one - just one - application that even mentioned it and brought it up. Which I reported to the application author. This was old code left in by the previous author, apparently. It was also removed by the current author, and ever since - I've not had this issue. Not even once, where as before it happened every one or two months (and even then it was highly random).
    Anyway...
    TLDR;
It was an application with a rouge bit of code calling on something it had no business calling on.

Thanks Tripp. Perhaps the biggest disconnect is in understanding that cloud isn't a bit of shared server space, with CPanel and phpMyAdmin, etc. You don't get your own server space in the classic way. You don't even get your own PHP files. Cloud is a bundle of scalable technology including PHP, MySQL, Python, NodeJS, Redis, NoSQL, WAF, SQS, etc.
We leverage all that tech for the newest features and it's just not possible to make it work on a normal PHP/MySQL server.

Some of these are indeed not registered on kickbox as disposable yet. I'll forward them to be added.
I'll see if I can add support for verifymail.io too, but as this is a paid service you'd need an active subscription with them to use their e-mail verification. They may be a bit quicker adding some of these compared to Kickbox, but the prior does not require any form of monthly payment to utilize their API.

I've seen several people comment that all of the new features added recently are only available for the cloud platform or that IPS is only focusing on the cloud platform.  Out of curiosity, I actually went back and looked at all of the features released in the 4.6 and 4.7 versions.  There were over 45 new features or major enhancements made across those two major versions.  Of those 45 features, 7 were cloud-only features.  That means 85% of the features added in that time were available to both platforms.

In looking at the list above, I don't understand how it could be said that IPS is only caring about the cloud platform and that self-hosted customers are not getting enhancements/features.
