Very cool feature, but sadly self-hosted communities (again) are left behind. 😞
I do not like the route IPS is going...

Include in title that it's only for biggest clients and you are screwing self-hosted clients. Would save me some time - just another thing you do not care about.
I'm a client for 9 years and I'm getting more and more anoyed with your solutions for self-hosted clients.

I don't believe any gaming communities outside of developer/publisher/merchandiser forums would actually be able to afford to use given the restriction to business & enterprise cloud plans

Tripp★ reacted to Davyc in Battling toxicity in communities with kindness and vulnerability
There is one hole in this line of thought, not that I totally disagree with it, but vulnerability can lead to exploitation, so you would need to measure this with some other form of displaying firmness.  How you would do that will depend on the individual.  Some people don't like to portray vulnerability, because of the issue of potential exploitation. I would replace the word and the meaning with "understanding" and finding out what leads to the toxicity.  It's extremely easy to ignore the root of an issue and react rather than discover.
Some people are just generally nasty, that's in their nature and these kinds of people will swarm on displays of vulnerability and exploit them to the full, which will raise the toxicity levels higher. So, show some understanding, discover why and then decide on how to deal with the issue.  It may be that some people will be toxic to get attention, their rational posts may be ignored whilst their toxic ones attract attention.
I don't believe there is a one-stop-shop-solution to people's behaviour and every case needs to be measured with the right kind of response. Of course, this means that Admins and Moderators need to be more understanding of people's foibles and ways and get to the root of an issue and then sort it from there.  Many Admins and Moderators may not see this as the right approach and deal with issues differently, it's about finding out what works best for them and whether their methodology actually works in turning toxic into enjoyable.

We've seen some extreme growth on our site due to people being under lockdown and such. We're trying our best to keep everyone sane and entertained, but it is quite hard sometimes. Otherwise we're having just as much fun as our users, whilst keeping them entertained.
Another thing we've done is weaponised the community to using their computers to run the Folding@Home application, by turning it into a bit of a competition where our members can earn points (thanks to "Members Shop" application by @TheJackal84). We set up a team, had our members set up their usernames in the team and so on. To date we've churned through: 22,275,352 F@H credits and 936 Work Units, and everyone is feeling very happy for that. It's a bit of a morale boost to be honest. I highly recommend looking into it if you're a community administrator of your own community. 🙂

Like most idioms that are adopted by groups, it can mean several things.

For this purpose, it means "A strong command or inducement for action, especially among a particular group of people."
Stay safe Cristian! From what I understand, Spain has started to turn a corner now.

Might be a good idea to send an email with the link if they click away as well.  Or have options like, "No thanks (I already know what to do)" to not get an email and "Maybe later (email me a link)" to get an email, but both options redirecting to the normal ACP page.

Yes, this. I wasn't addressing any one person (and in fact @Tripp★ I wasn't addressing your comment at all), just speaking generally. I've noticed a lot of people replying to our blog entries lately with all of their wonderful ideas, and I just don't want all of those suggestions to be lost and forgotten.

Tripp★ reacted to Lindy in GDPR updates for Invision Community 4.3.3
@DReffects2 - I appreciate you've done extensive research as applicable to your situation jurisdiction. We have expended an enormous amount of time and resources aiding our EU clients with GDPR compliance to the best of our abilities and it's our understanding, we've actually done more than most similar platforms. A temporary line has to be drawn somewhere or we're going to end up with, as Matt said, a barrage of half-baked features and checkboxes everywhere. We have consulted with the ICO, our largest EU clients and perused legal resources and are confident that our implementation as of 4.3.3 will help satisfy your compulsory requirements under the GDPR. I know you don't like the "let's wait and see" approach on your remaining potential concerns, but that is in fact a key purpose of the judicial system -- interpreting and providing subsequent guidance on existing regulation.
We are committed to adapting and accommodating as needed, I assure you. We aren't, however, able to go crazy and toss things in based on armchair interpretations. From a layman perspective, a simple checkbox here and there seems easy. From a development perspective - you need to do something with that checkbox. As the contact form, when configured such, is merely an email form, there's nothing to do in the same way there's nothing to do when you actively send someone a traditional email -- you're sending the email because you want to initiate contact. If you wanted a "simple" checkbox on the contact form that's simply sending an email, you then need to provide a mechanism for obtaining consent, store the email address, store the consent, provide a mechanism to withdraw the consent to store the email, etc. None of that is necessary based on reasonable interpretations of the GDPR, so as developers with finite resources, we need to weigh out these requests that amount to a fair amount of development time with limited basis and simply say, if you're super concerned about untested, unchallenged, extreme interpretations for things like this, it's likely best, for your own peace of mind, to simply not use the feature.
I say with confidence that although ultimate compliance with any local, national or international law or regulation is the responsibility of the community owner; 4.3.3 is GDPR friendly. If you feel you need to be more restrictive based on additional member state requirements, interpretations or even personal peace of mind - you can of course disable embeds, disable the contact form, disable spam mitigation, disallow tech support and/or peruse third party solutions. It's my opinion, however, the EU authorities are not intending to cripple the Internet or make it cumbersome, inconvenient and unenjoyable to use; only to hold providers, controllers and processors to task for safeguarding data... and in that regard, it's only a good thing.
There's a lot of information, opinions and suggestions floating through the comments here and it's difficult to keep track of. We welcome you to engage us via a support ticket for software and corporate specific information and, of course, you may use the client forums to discuss various scenarios, share opinions, tips, etc.
We appreciate the feedback and participation. Let us know if we can be of further help.

Sorry guys, while 4.3.3 has the GDPR improvements, it also contains numerous bug fixes and so we need to carry it through our normal release schedule. We avoid late-week releases because we are not open for general support on the weekends. Tuesday is our target release date.
    Have a good weekend!

The last bit about showing multiple users sharing the same device is very important to me as an admin.  Very nice addition!  If you can take this one step further and create a page that shows ALL devices with multiple users, that would be an extremely useful report.  This allows you to more easily catch people creating multiple accounts, especially handy to help catch trolls who are trying to evade a ban.
    Thank you!
