This is exactly the reason I tried not to buy any 3rd party application. You buy one and suddenly the owner/coder disappears without any notification or warning...
    This is ridiculous and SAD...

Really?  I'm no expert but I find the last part of this sentence hard to believe given that there are many gaps in IPB functionality which necessitated the Marketplace community in the first place.

So unless I'm missing something, this means that if a developer doesn't have or is somehow unable to start their own independent website then they have no way to maintain their apps/plugins?

Thank for the more reasonable reply. I hear you, but also am hesitant to buy into change when the only information available is sparse. There are some awesome communities full of information and interaction, still running terrible looking versions of software. For them, it's about getting and giving information fast and efficiently. This is the opposite of a site like YouTube where it's about dragging people along until you can show another commercial or sponsored segment or the site trying to get you to watch more videos until your eyes dry out.
Perhaps I'm the only person without patience to weed through a mountain of garbage just to get the nugget of info I need. Much of the internet has become exhausting now days.
I frequently think of this magazine cover compared to magazines of today and websites where there is so much going on it causes a headache. More isn't automatically better, and neither is less. There's a happy medium, and using technology to meet needs is always good.

When using an app for fun, this kind of thing got me excited.
I use IPS for my business, so this means nothing but problems and tons of work coming soon. My community likes stability and hates change just for change sake. V5 sounds like a bunch of change, even for everyone who wants to maintain the same experience for their communities.

I think this pretty much sums it up for me...although some smaller/beginning devs who may not be able to afford their own websites may fall off the map, and some devs may raise the prices of their apps in order to cover the costs of "going independent" with their own online presence.
But maybe this will also help prune some of the apps out there that charge unrealistic renewal fees that aren't warranted by the nature of the app/what it offers....

How many devs have the time or are willing to go to the trouble to develop free/paid versions for each of their products?  This would run @Adriano into the ground methinks.....

Luckily we are the experts in seeing usage trends 😉
Trust me. You have no idea how many problematic things we prevented from being published in the Marketplace over the years.
PSA: you might want to use multi-quote when doing many replies 🙂

We cannot just give out the code as it's not our code to give out - it's the author's code - so you would need to transfer your proof of purchase to them. It takes 2 minutes not 6 months to transfer your purchase 🙂

Yes, I will corral all of the Marketplace devs together so we come to consensus on this project. I've been fortunate to have worked with many of them over my 10 years with the community.  They all know me (for better or for worse, ha 😆).
My goal for this new Marketplace Directory  is simple: provide an independent directory using Downloads.  It will link you to the providers' own website for support.

More broadly, to anyone who is hesitant about these changes, there are some pros and cons:
    - More independence, more variation, and total flexibility for developers and themers.   They can build their own core, their own gallery, their own package of plugins.  You can't do any of that in the current Marketplace.  I expect to see some truly experimental and innovative approaches to how developers and themers work with IPS 5.
    - More independence, more variation, and total flexibility in how they charge.  Providers can charge crypto, they can offer a bundled set, they can offer discounts, they can set their own policies for chargebacks and refunds.
    - Trust will be deeper, not wider. The IPS Marketplace gave a broad stamp of trust to all providers for meeting standard IPS coding. But for clients, this is an opportunity to deepen ties to one or two trusted developers and take our most important apps private and control our own development pipeline.  I do believe the biggest developers will still offer - and can make healthy income - off a broad portfolio of single purpose mods, but those by itself aren't going to dramatically fulfill your community's specific needs.

Why instead of talking about this here, won't you contact authors of apps/plugins you use to find a solution that fits both parties?
I understand that this isn't something you are happy about but until October there is more than enough time to transfer your purchases from MP to Author's website.

My goal is to provide a listing directory to make it easy for developers to list their apps.
A directory will provide visibility, scale, and ease for everyone to visit.
Developers will handle payments and support on their own.

So for normal users like me, can i still do 'application upgrade' check? OR That process is changing as well?
If i understand - rather then purchasing renewals from IPS, i will be purchasing through developer site? So 10 developers, 10 sits for renewals? I am fine with it, as long as I can use add-ons on IPS forum.
Current IPS functionality doesn't cover all my needs and for us, stand alone forum would be non usable without developers fixing the gap/bridge.

Update: I did hear back from rebraf via PM - as his license has currently expired he is unable to reply to the support message.  He says he will continue support for Email Drip Campaigns through 4.x but will have to evaluate the situation as 5.x approaches, depending on Invision's plans and the subsequent changes which may need to be made.
    So stay tuned, I guess.
