notify third-party applications before launching new versions

We do get notified, with (almost always) plenty of time to update. It's just that some of us have a large number of marketplace resources and so those resources may not be updated the very second that a release is available. Additionally, each update has to go through a review before it's available.

In most cases, the monthly releases don't break the marketplace resources. You should only (potentially) have issues when upgrading to a bigger release (e.g. 4.6 -> 4.7), at which point you should reach out to the plugin developer to check compatibility.

    Hello, @HeadStand, I hope you're doing well.

Something bizarre happened to my IPS install, and the Newsletters app got completely uninstalled, so I'm having to redo everything from scratch. 😞

I'm going back through the manual now, and looking at the settings, and I just realized I'm not sure what a "cycle" is.

If I have X Emails per Cycle, but X+n members signed up to get a specific newsletter every 24 hours, does that mean that it won't send out an email to all X+n members?

Or, does the system send an "email" to multiple recipients, so that if, e.g., it sent one email to 5 members, and is set to send 150 emails per cycle, it could send 750 total messages (150*5=750)?

I'm using the built-in SMTP to distribute the Newsletter.

    Thanks!

Cycle here is more of a batch size. You can probably leave this as the default. It's how many emails get sent at a time. This is because some mail servers will scream at you if you try to send out 1,000 emails in a short period of time. Breaking it down into batches with a delay helps. So instead of sending 1,000 emails in the space of 2 minutes, for example, it will send 100 emails, wait 10 minutes, then send another 100, wait 10 minutes, etc.

    Hope that clears things up.

  3. A new version has been pushed to the Marketplace and is pending approval. Changes include:

    • Allow Admins to view a list of users who have unsubscribed from the Newsletter (ACP -> Newsletters -> Subscribers -> Unsubscribed Members )
    • Allow Admins to export a list of users subscribed to a newsletter
    • Multiple improvements to distribution tracking to prevent loops and users receiving multiple instances of the newsletter
    • Moved population of the distribution list to a background task to prevent timeouts on large sites

Newsletters app not working after system upgrade to 4.7.6.  Anyone else experienced this?

Is there a way to undo the upgrade?

    Scotty

In what way is it not working?

    The Invision cloud servers.

I deleted the app, reinstalled it, and recreated everything using the default templates. I’m going to let it run tonight and see if I still have the issue.

OK. Feel free to PM me directly if you still have issues. As you can see I don't always get the notifications for these threads.

No other 3rd party apps are running on the site, so if there’s a conflict, it’s with the core of Invision Community v4.7.4.

What are you using for sending email?

Thanks, I manually deleted that file (FAQ.php) and the PHP8 incomp warning disappeared.

However, now the FAQ system application shows up as "locked" in my dashboard list of applications, and I cannot unlock it myself, the IPB software asks for an updated version.

    Could contain: Text

I'm honestly not sure how to correct that. It's something you'd have to ask IPS. I mean... there is no update for me to push, so I don't know how I can handle it from my end.

    Hi E.

I just ran a rebuild of my site's existing content and got an error. Posted in Support (https://invisioncommunity.com/forums/topic/468986-ran-a-rebuild-of-links-now-error/#comment-2903674) and it was suggested that the FAQ app might be at play.

Rather than copy the entire error and pollute the thread here, could you check it out there. And the support response I got was that the FAQ app was is using \IPS\Member::loggedIn() where it shouldn't be used.

    Thoughts?

    Thanks.

Just pushed a new version to the Marketplace, it fixes this issue.

Hi. Following up on an old post. I have club owners asking for an FAQ. Is there any chance of making the FAQ into a club feature thus allowing any club who wants it, their own FAQ?

    Thx.

Possibly, but not any time in the next couple of weeks. I'm swamped.

Hi, I get an error in the PHP8 comp check in the IPB dashboard. See the first two lines in the screen shot below.

Seems that the FAQ application works on my site, so not a critical error for me but might be good for you to look into for future releases.

    Many thanks, Stefan

The file referenced in the screenshot does not exist. You may need to manually delete it from your server... but it's definitely not part of the distribution, not for quite some time.

  10. A new version has been pushed to the marketplace and is pending approval. Changes include:

    • Issue where plain-text newsletters were not distributed correctly. Fixed.
    • Exception when sending a test newsletter. Fixed.

I'm confused, that doesn't make any sense since it's a hook on IPS\Email\Outgoing\Sparkpost which doesn't exist on current installations.

I've removed the offending file completely and submitted a new version to the marketplace.

That said, the original point still stands. If a hook is extending a non-existent file, it still should not be flagged.

  12. 19 hours ago, Daniel F said:

There's a hook for a file which isn't present in IPS anymore. Sparkpost was deprecated a while ago, but it's possible that old installations have the file still on the system..

OR..... that it was done to be compatible with another one of my custom apps, which is Sparkpost integration. 😉

I'd argue that this should be allowed, since we very often have to integrate with other 3rd party apps.

Hi @HeadStand...just downloaded and reinstalled Newsletters about 5 minutes ago.  Not 100% sure if this is the most recent version to date, but just letting you know it's (still?) flagged by the PHP8 Compatibility Scanner as follows:

Could contain: Text, Home Decor, Face

Just double checked, latest version is definitely correct.

    Hi,

The unsubscribe is definitely not working again.

Just had a customer complaining he tried to unsubscribe and kept being taken to the home page.

    Thanks,

A new version has been uploaded to the Marketplace and is pending approval. It contains a fix for this issue.

@HeadStand are you around? It's been a week now and part of our site functionality is crippled until we can fix this. I need your input please to guide us with the issue I have reported to you.

I actually have not been around. 😬 Took my kids on a trip and got back yesterday. School starts today and I'll be back at work. I'll put you on the list for today. Hang tight.

I have been able to resolve all of the above except for the Web Version display of, "*|member_name|*."

A new version has been uploaded to the Marketplace and is pending approval.

I've fixed the above issue and also adjusted the default HTML formatting as you requested.

Regarding the "No permissions" issue with the unsubscribe link from the email - this only happens if you click a link from an email address that belongs to a different account. In other words, if you are logged in as one user (or not logged in at all) and you click the link from an email that belongs to a different user (e.g. a test account). Hope that makes sense.

    Hi,

URL Field Type doesn't work anymore. It's empty every time I submit it. If I change for text field it's OK.
