There shouldn't be any issues with Classifieds on 3.1.3 aside from the known issues with reports etc.

I'll try and find a bit more time to give this app some TLC over the coming weeks.

I'm aware of the mod available but I have to pay for that. I pay enough out to host and maintain my website as it is, the prefixes would be a great addition to my website but I need to know if Invision are planning to introduce this? It makes no sense to me that they haven't been added into the IP board package, even as an option.

I've been waiting a while and would like to know the score, thanks.

You say you want to see unread posts, but surely you mean see topics that have unread posts in them, right? Just showing a list of unread posts, without the context of what topic they are in, doesn't seem to make much sense to me.

If it's really topics with unread posts, I don't see how that's different from the existing View New Content search while having your 'View New Content Method' setting set to 'Show me all content that I have not read'.

Here is what I did to accomplish the following:
    - speeding up the query (on my forums by almost 1-1,5 seconds per page load), by
    - searching only for similar topics in the same forum, and
    - searching only for open topics

Find the following code in the document, located at:
    /forum/admin/applications/forums/sources/classes/dp3similarTopicsLib.php

    /* RAND? Remove order then */ if( $this->settings['dp3_st_stype'] == 'rand' ) { $sortOrder = ''; } /* Get topics */ $this->DB->build( array( 'select' => 't.*', 'from' => array( 'topics' => 't' ), 'where' => $whereCondition, 'limit' => array(0, $lim ), 'order' => $sortBy . ' ' . $sortOrder, 'add_join' => array( array( 'select' => 'f.name as forum_name, f.forum_allow_rating, f.name_seo', 'from' => array( 'forums' => 'f' ), 'where' => "f.id=t.forum_id", 'type' => 'left', ), array( 'select' => 'ms.member_group_id as starter_group_id', 'from' => array( 'members' => 'ms' ), 'where' => "ms.member_id=t.starter_id", 'type' => 'left', ), array( 'select' => 'mss.member_group_id as last_poster_group_id', 'from' => array( 'members' => 'mss' ), 'where' => "mss.member_id=t.last_poster_id", 'type' => 'left', ) ) ) ); $this->DB->execute(); Then, replace:

    'where' => $whereCondition, With:

    'where' => "t.forum_id =" . $fid . " AND t.state = 'open' AND " . $whereCondition,

    Please note:
This option is not configurable from your ACP.

Maxxius reacted to MiniJeffrey in Warn system suggestions
Hi guys, I have been trying the trial version of your software for a few days, I'm impressed but I got some serious issues and suggestions for the warning system:

    - Moderators cannot give a custom level warning and I can't seem to find an option to enable it. The only thing I have found is that super moderators can do that, but I would like to see an option allowing normal moderators to give custom level warnings too.

    - When a member gets banned, it would be nice if he would automatically join the 'banned' membergroup. Now, he just remains in the member-status and it is very confusing for the moderator to see if he is actually banned or not.

    - In the ACP, the warn logs need some big improvements. Now it is impossible to see which moderator banned which user and how long he is banned. Also, in the manage banned members, there is nog enough information regarding the duration of his ban, the banning moderator, etc. This is very confusing for the admins to hold track of his moderators.

    - Also when viewing a member profile in the ACP, there is nowhere to be found an section to alter his banstatus. You can only notice it in the search results as 'members (banned)', but it would be nice to get some ban details in the user profile in the ACP.

    - Some preset warnings would be nice, for example: '[2 pts] Spamming'. These presets should be managed in the ACP, it would make the objective moderation of all moderators a easier task.

    - When a moderator warns a person, it would be nice if this could be mailed to an administrator so that he can easily hold track of his moderators actions.

    - A setting that allows a warning point(s) to be auto-decreased after a period of time would be nice.

    - As admin, in the ACP you cannot see the reason for a warning if the moderator didnt contact the warned user.

The warn system has some good stuff, but it could use an intensive renovation because it is lacking some stuff now.

    Thx!

We've discussed this a few times internally, I kind of agree that merging them would probably be a better way to go. However, the current system has been in place for a long time, so I doubt we will do that. There are a number of problems, such as during upgrade, does the avatar or photo become the unified image? If we do change anything, the most likely change would be something like adding a checkbox to the photo page that says "Also use this as my avatar", or something like that.

I'd like to suggest an option to unify avatars and user photos. Essentially, what this would do is eliminate user photos altogether, replacing every instance of a user's photo with their avatar. The user would have one picture identity: the avatar, rather than have two identities: the avatar and the user photo.

    1. Easy way to delete spammers. Sorry, going back and forth to delete spammers is boomer and when they start leaving messages on other users profile, it's mess.
    2. Easy way to change default options for notifications. No SQL query works at present to change those settings.
    3. Contact us.
    4. Clickable IP address as default rather then just IP address in user list. (i know there is one tutorial for it)
    5. Drag and drop feature to move PM to other custom folder.
    6. Default skins need some nice polish. Need to make it little compact and nicer.
    7. Pop Up when u select watch topic button rather then going to UCP and select options. (I had suggested this during 3.0.5 or 3.1.1.)
    8. RSS feeds. It's horrible in present state.
    9. Ability to short topics in category.

+the rest of above suggested by others :)

    Incredibly cavalier reply there, Brandon.

IPS doesn't advertise? How many IPB admins feel the copyright removal is too dearly priced and subsequently have a backlink to the IPS site, on every blinkin' page of their own sites? G'wan, tell me again how IPS doesn't advertise.

I suspect if we all had so many backlinks out there, our search engine traffic would be just as fine.

I appreciate Matt and the team have their own plans and are probably well on their way with 3.2, but here's what I'd like to see for CycleChat:

View new content - Show what is actually new (unread) content; show topics only (as opposed to multiple posts from the same topic). Hover preview (really liking the new version) - To work on forum view, all search results, and personal conversations - with ACP options for trigger time, and post-hover fade time. Thread marking - to mark up to where I have actually read in a thread, rather than marking the whole thing as read. (Matt has said this is on the list - yippee! ) Lighter CSS - There's tons of the stuff ... can it be made lighter by making more "global" style attributes (with the option of adding custom code if needed)? Better editor - I've lost count of the number of "issues" people have had with the post editor. Hopefully some improvements for 3.2? Emoticons as a pop-up perhaps? Simple alerts, likes, and trophies - Not strictly an "everyman" feature set, but after playing with xF this is something I think would greatly improve member-engagement at my site. Simple out-of-the-box Article system - IP.Content is great, but confuses the hell out of me. I just want a simple, categorised, article system where I select from a pre-built template, apply my site "style" as a wrapper, and then start adding articles. Expiring notifications - Once I've read a message, remove the notification about it. I'm sure I can think of others, but that's not a bad start for now.

    Cheers,
    Shaun :D

Gzipped sitemaps served to a handful of search engines won't present either a storage or bandwidth issue. It really comes down to resources used to generate the sitemap. I think you've made an unfair generalization regarding server resources. Not all forum software have issues generating complete sitemaps for large forums. Not even all sitemaps for IPB forums. Stoo's sitemaps appears to scale reasonably well. From what I've read, Icelabz's IPB Sitemap scales extremely well. It's a coding challenge, not a resource challenge.

IPB needs a feature complete sitemap. I applaud IPB for offering a sitemap solution. I like a lot of what you are doing. I only ask that you also consider the needs of large sites.

Finally, it doesn't appear that the sitemap is being used here. Any plans to implement it? site:community.invisionpower.com at Google currently shows me 23,600 indexed links. I would expect more on a PR7 page rank domain. I count roughly 60k public topics (not including pagnation), plus 148k members, plus blogs, gallery, resources... seems you could benefit from XML and HMTL sitemaps.

I believe a lot of people over time have asked IPS to make sitemap creation a core feature. Yet I reiterate this once more.

As you know CSEO was rendered useless, CSEO itself realized that and closed its doors. It seems that IPS really picked up on SEO but one thing is left unattended - sitemap creation.

I know that at least 3 mods exist to serve that function to some extent.

Why IPS can't create a sitemap generator so it would have a complete package for SEO. So the end-user wouldn't have to do anything in regards to SEO stuff.

Oh, I'd also like to follow up on one particular point in this topic, the idea of having all topics in the sitemap. There's a couple of reasons we're unlikely to ever expand it to do this:

    1. The main reason I chose to write this sitemap generator in the first place is that existing solutions either didn't check permissions properly, or they were not developed with big boards in mind. The latter part is what matters here, as anything we (IPS) release has to take into account our entire customer base. On some of our customer's forums, if we generated all topics it would take literally hours to run the sitemap generator, there'd be hundreds of files and they would take up gigabytes of space and bandwidth.

    2. More importantly than the above, I truly do not believe it to be necessary to include all of your content in a sitemap that is generated and sent to search engines more than once a day. I don't know any forums that generate more than 25,000 new topics a week, which means that you can expect your new content to be served to the search engines for at least that long. This gives them ample time to index the new content, and if they have not done so by then, they probably never will. Remember also that we ping the search engines with your sitemap to let them know that new content is available, so it's not like there is a discovery period to worry about.

I'll expand it to 50,000 as soon as the new generation method is in place, but that's likely it for a while at least.

The next release of Sitemap Generator is coming, and will be released with Invision Power Services as the author. There is, admittedly, a lot of work to be done on it before it could be a "core" feature of IP.Board or included by default, but it's as official as you're going to get at the moment.

Some things I'll be changing in upcoming releases though:

Blog, Gallery, Nexus and Downloads will be supported when their next versions are released. I'll be adding support for generating multiple sitemaps. Each app will be able to generate as many as they need to. This will mean we can support more like 50,000 topics rather than the current 25,000 limit. Basic support for priorities and change frequencies. Followed later by more in-depth support.

Feel free to leave feedback about it either here or in the topic, and I'll try to include any requests that are feasible. Ideas on how you'd like to see priorities generated would be great.
